Brawl at Test Track-Epcot

Observe and report. I was told that by one of their uniformed security guards. They are not allowed to intervene. They have other security for that.
IMO, the CM did just as he should. He intervened and in doing so, possibly kept other guests, including children safe. If he gets fired, I would be very upset.

If this were to happen in my classroom both parties would have consequences. It doesn't matter who started it or who hit first. You put your hands on someone that's it. The self defense argument very rarely flies at school. I have always taught my students that when someone starts trash talking you just make a pleasant face and say nothing. It's always more entertaining to watch someone try to argue with someone who refuses to engage. It also draws attention to the person instigating so that security/cm/teachers/whomever is in charge wherever the incident is taking place can deescalate the situation.

Some of the time ignoring trash talk works. At other times, ignoring it builds rage. In an enclosed space at an amusement park, especially when you have an out of control adult who should be trying to calm the situation instead of causing more havoc, it's harder to control than in a classroom.

Hey umbrella woman is going to be famous, she will be on the 5 o'clock news! What a way to get your picture splattered all over the TV.

Doesn't matter. If you don't apply rules consistently then you have issues any time you want to apply them.

When we watched the video last night I told my wife that that CM was going to get fired and the woman swinging the umbrella will file a lawsuit.

If your rules are to immediately fire someone without first examining the situation and the employee's history, you have some pretty stupid rules.

Every company has certain non negotiable items. It's only a stupid rule if you have it in place and don't have people actually adhere to it. If you don't hold everyone to the same standard then legally you have trouble holding anyone to any standards.

Can anyone who watched the news report fill in any details for us non-locals?

Nothing new in news, but this was posted elsewhere.

"Sooo to put everything into perspective and set the record straight.

I know many people in that area of Future World East and worked at TT, so I know exactly who the CM is in that video and most of the details of what happened.

As far as to what happened, what some of you guessed is true: the fight started due to people cutting each other post-Design Studio. It's something that's been happening more and more lately at TT for some odd reason, but this is definitely the most extreme of the situation. They went at it for a good bit verbally before the physical part of the altercation came out, hence how the video was able to be shot.

Security was called in, but never showed up until 8 minutes in. It greatly saddens me that they took this long to get there, but it was a perfect storm of miscommunication that resulted in both management and security arriving later than anticipated. Even in regular emergency situations, there have been times where it's taken more than 5 minutes to get to the scene (waiting 10 minutes for Reedy Creek to show up when you have a girl that suddenly fell unconscious and is shaking all over isn't fun). Security followed them through but from what I've been told, weren't able to follow them after trailing both parties for a while.

In regards to the CM: He's a great guy. He's been with the company in the same area for several years and knows what he's doing. Going from personal experience, situations like these are not rare among us who work E-ticket rides. Granted, this is definitely one of the worst I've ever seen, but he's been at TT since the start of his career at WDW, so this isn't a new experience for him. It's also funny that some of you have been mentioning about being a teacher can help with these kinds of situations; he himself is actually a teacher at his regular job.

We're all worried right now as to what's going to happen with him (especially given the current state of the area), but everyone there is in agreement that he did the right thing. Did he touch the guest? By the video's details, obviously. Was it warranted? Absolutely. We're talking about not only two groups of people getting into it, but other guests surrounded on all sides of them that could've gotten injured, especially for the fact that a personal belonging was used as a weapon. As for him reaching out like that, you have to remember: that part of the queue is the bend right before you into Load. There's going to be many people behind, in front, and next to them. The fastest way to get through that area (and, in this case, your own personal protection) is to stay behind the railings in the Single Rider queue. It wasn't only a matter of protecting the other guests around him, but also self-defense.

What IS good news is that the manager on duty that night has experience from being in Security within WDW AND has previous law enforcement experience, so we're hoping that helps a lot from their own perspective.

Lastly on the question of whether or not we're trained to handle these kinds of situations: Not. at. all. We're only told to call a coordinator or manager when we feel that there is a possibility of something about to happen, if a situation is getting out of hand, etc, and then only call Security when absolutely needed. In the event of something like this happens, you try and get them to calm down and lead them away from other guests, but when it comes to large scale situations such as these, there isn't really a clear procedure in place.

Believe me when I say this: these kinds of things happen far more often than you realize."

...he himself is actually a teacher at his regular job.

And with today's social media and twitter talking heads, you just know there is someone at his school dying to fire him over this incident on the basis that he touched a minor. Sickos.

Yup definitely warranted. What I find more disturbing is that some posters here would actually side with Disney World if they fired him. They would have preferred if the CM just stood by and let the women and children pound themselves into a bloody pulp.

Hmm, so if the above is accurate, the reason no one was made to leave the park and no charges were filed is because security couldn't find the people in order to do anythign about it. That doesn't really make me feel much better about how WDW handles these things.

Yup if you're ever attacked at Disney World, you're on your own basically as Disney won't step in to assist.

Fondly remembering the days when there was a fight, it was broken up and each person went about their way.

All over line cutting. I don't understand this, all the test track vehicles are the same color. Now if it were a serious situation, like If someone pushed past me and caused me to miss the blue sailed Peter Pan ship. . .oh, it would be ON.

thanks for the report from another CM!
sounds like his "big crime" is physically detaining the hot head....

Sorry but I have to disagree. If you have a rule that requires you to fire someone without due process, that a stupid rule. Punishment can have layers, it doesn't have to be all or nothing.

So let me get this straight; you would prefer that they just break up a fight in a crowded, public area and then simply say "Run along now, you've got it all out of your system."?

It is really concerning that it took so long for Disney security to show up, especially since one woman was basically using a umbrella as a weapon (not sure if it had a pointy tip, but if it did, it could poke an eye out, mother said so, :>). Seriously though, I thought there were suppose to be secret security in khaki shorts & tees all over Disney. Where were they? What if one of these "ladies" (term used loosely) had hit a child while trying to hit each other? Then everyone would have screamed about that poor CM not physically separating them. He did a good job under the circumstances & I didn't see him "body slam" that girl like others have posted. She was still fighting against him, that was her momentum, her fault. And what's up with the teenager or young adult, whichever she is? If I ever got in a verbal altercation (wouldn't happen, not my personality) with another adult my DD would not be chomping at the bit to get involved, nor would she become physical. She would more than likely be trying to calm me & the situation down. She would not escalate it or start fighting, like that girl did. Goodness! What a mess!! Bad examples all around. One more point, both parties should have been kicked out of the park, possibly banned, at least for 5 years!
