Night activities at Aulani?

As I begin to consider Aulani vs. WDW... What have you done at night while staying at Aulani? We are young adults and I like the idea of lounging by the pool and beach during the day to relax but I can picture us getting bored at night if there is not much to see and do. We aren't the type to really want to go to bars or clubs but we like to have something to do such as a luau, shopping, night show etc. The activities can be on or off Aulani property. Thanks in advance :)

I will let others chime on on this since we had a 3 month old baby with us when we were there, but it was VERY quiet. Not much happening at all. There is a little strip mall across the street, but I would hardly call it shopping - a few nice touristy stores. The area is quite out of the way, but that being said we had just spent a week on beach in Waikiki so there is no comparison. In Waikiki we got the baby to sleep in her stroller and walked around for hours, but at Aulani we caught up on some much needed sleep.

I don't know where home is to you, Justme0729, but if you're an east-coaster like we are you will find you really do not want to stay up as late as you think. I am a huge night owl, preferring to stay up until past midnight and sleep in but the time difference from here to Hawaii makes me an early riser/early to bed person.

The nighttime activity that DH and I absolutely love is listening to fabulous Hawaiian live music nightly in the 2 lounges at Aulani. Truly top notch!

Our family of 5 (DH, me, 25,23 and 21 yo) went last May. For us, the answer was that the only thing to do after 9 pm was sleep. Not that we WANTED to sleep, but the lack of activities (including pools, etc) was surprising. Needless to say, none of our kiddos ever want to return. As for DH and myself, we will probably give it another go, but it will have to be a while.

There is a luau nearby called Paradise Cove. Other than dining and listening to the live music at the lounges and if you are lucky a local will get up and hula to the lovely music. We often open a bottle of wine and perhaps have some cheese and crackers and listen to the music from our balcony as we get ocean or pool view villas. There are very few options after 6:00 PM. I think the shopping shuttles to Ala Moana Mall in Waikiki and the Premium Outlets might only be running during the day, you would need to call and ask. Most guests do day time activities, like visit the North Shore for snorkeling, horse backing riding, hiking Diamond Head and seeing other sites in addition to shopping. After a day in the sun I am ready for a relaxing evening. And I am very glad the pools close early as it really reduces the noise.

You pretty much need a car to go anywhere unless you take the excursions that Aulani offers.

I agree with this totally. We were at Aulani in June and came from Florida. I was up every day by 5:30-6 and sound asleep by 10:00 latest. We loved just sitting outside or in the lobby and just relaxing or out in the chairs by the pool. The starlit hui could be done one night as well as the luau over at Paradise Cove. Most nights we were in the room by 8:00 and my husband & daughter watched a movie they had gotten from Community Hall while I posted online about our days adventures.
