Linking reservations - one on our points, one on rented points

Hi, looking at taking a quick trip to wdw this summer but I'm a little short on points. My question is...

If I have enough points in my account to rent a studio for two nights and then rent points from another member for two additional nights at the SAME resort and the SAME room category, can MS link the reservations so we don't have to check out and then back in halfway through our stay? Thanks!!!

I would call MS and ask-from posts I seen previously it appears that other members have been told that reservations made with points from different members can't be combined into a single reservation-You can however ask member services to note on the reservation you make with your points that you also have this second reservation and want to be kept in the same room if possible. I'd also reiterate that at check in for the first stay but my understanding is even if they can keep you in the same room (which they will try to accomodate) you will still need to physically checkout/check back in as they will be separate reservations.

Then they wouldn't be rented points, they would be transferred points. You can't rent points from a member or broker and then transfer them to yourself.

What if he were to transfer the rented points into his account? Would that work?
Who are you referring to by "he" and "his" in that sentence?

If an owner will transfer points to you, then you should be able to make a single reservation for the duration. But that gets tricky since even different use years end up with separate reservations. Transferred points introduce additional complexity, but might make things simpler in this case.

Ah, that makes sense. "He" can transfer points in; he has to find an owner willing to transfer points to him. And, since transfers are limited to once-per-year, whether transferring in or out, not very many owners are willing to transfer points in small amounts. The points for two studios would be difficult to come by.

We recently stayed at SSR on a reservation that consisted of our own points and a separate reservation made with my DSIL's points. We did a 3 way call with MS and the linked the two reservations. We didn't do online checkin for both reservations only the first one. We checked with the front on arrival desk and they said it showed that we had a continuous reservation covering both periods and we would be okay, but we should confirm with the front desk on that day. We ended up having to check in and out. So I expect that the OP will still need to check in and out on the day you switch from one reservation to the other.

We're doing something similar in January. Did you wind up staying in the same room? Curious if it was just checking in and out at the front desk or if you had to move your luggage out and all...

We had to check out and back in at the front desk one time, but a second time, they called the room the night before and handled it all over the phone. We never had to change rooms.

We had the same experience as supersnoop- Aulani, most points were ours but rented a night from another member. We just checked out/back in from our room phone and never had to move. Although not DVC, we had the same experience at cash stays too (had to stack multiple reservations at the campgrounds)- checked out and back in via the phone.

Yes, Denlo and I stayed in the same room. I walked over to the front desk and checked out of our first segment and then checked in on the second segment. The CM closed out our room portfolio from our first segment and then opened a new room portfolio for the second segment. However, if I recall correctly, the CM gave me the option of carrying all charges over to the second portfolio if I preferred.
