Best way to book trip?

We went to Universal last summer-Sat and Sun night at Royal Pacific(checked in at 7am-stayed offsite the night before-and did parks Sat and Sun), then to Disney for remainder of the week.

We're going again April 2016, doing the same thing. Last time we used a travel agent, and just got tickets and hotel through Universal.

We're staying at Hard Rock this time, as we didn't really like Royal Pacific, and were thinking of hanging out at the pool a bit on Monday before moving over to the Boardwalk at WDW.

Any hotel discounts ever? Or should I just book now through Universal?

I noticed Undercover Tourist has buy 2 days park to park, get one free, which would be great in case we decided to pop back into a park on Monday. That seems like the best place to book tickets, yes?
Also, is that deal pretty much standard and available all the time, or should I buy those tickets now?

Check the dates on the tickets.Alot of those deals need to be used by a certain time period.
As for the hotels , book thru loews.com now and if a discount comes your way you can call and have it changed

cheaptickets.com often has 20% off the Universal hotels. Just watch their website for their deals.
