Weekly Money Saving Accomplishments

Today, DS and I picked our own sweet corn, I'm going to cook and freeze for later.

We grow our own corn as well! We didn't have a great crop this year though. I think we actually got too much rain and it killed a lot of our plants. I was getting zuchinni, squash, and corn well through august last year and it's already all dead.

I've been trying to not buy much the last couple days since my credit card is really high this week. I had to buy feed for my horses yesterday though, but a coupon came for $30 off $150, so that was good!

DH received a huge container of strawberries, shredded cheese, lettuce, and 2 gallons of milk that was leftover from a work event so some free food for us. My garden is doing really well right now so I will be making cucumber salad and zucchini bread this weekend. I also cancelled a trip we were going to take for Spring Break and instead we are going to do something much cheaper, still fun but about $2000 cheaper.

Jealous of your garden! Ours didn't have a great year :( We did get some nice eggplant out the other day, but we tilled most of everything under now to get ready for fall planting. Our garden did fantastic last year, but not so much this year.

After paying off my catastrophic credit card this morning, I did ok with some money-saving accomplishments. Had one fail where I left my lunch in my car from 8 until 11 before realizing it, so I had to throw that out and go buy something. But I saved 31% off my groceries at Kroger today. I also earned 80 shopkicks while in Kroger. And I redeemed Swagbucks for a $25 Target gift card last night! I'm waiting for my Target debit card to come in so I can start using the 5% discount to get Disney gift cards.

My Target debit card came in! Between that and my combination of Cartwheel, coupons, sales, and Target coupons, I saved $21 at Target yesterday! I also bought items that had offers on Saving Stars, so I will get several dollars back from that. I also shopkicked while shopping and earned some more points, so I'm approaching the threshold for another $25 gift card!

We over paid our escrow account so I received a check in the mail this week for almost $100. I love "extra" money. Our insurance premium also dropped by $11 each month. I am not feeling well today so I am working from home so I saved money on gas driving to work. Not a fun way to save money but I am.

make sure to check with your utility company about additional rebates. our power company does a minimum $25 when you purchase any energy star rated fridges, and some water providers have additional ones for certain types of dishwashers. these when combined with individual store and manufacturer rebates can quickly add up.

Thanks for the reminder! Here in PA we have an electricity supplier and another company that transmits the electricity; the transmitting company does have energy star rebates so I will see if we qualify. We made the choice to go 100% renewable with the supplier (which costs more) so any energy savings will definitely save us money too.

I found that the secret to saving money is staying AWAY from the temptations. I used to go to Target every week to buy groceries, toiletries, etc. However, I found myself buying the great deal, or the cute top or something for the house. Now, I go to Target every other week and it has made a huge difference in our overall bill. I also stay away from all the extra stuff and really try to spend less than $100.

I am going on vacation and my favorite scrapbook store with tons of product is on my list to visit. I have cleaned out and reorganized my supplies in the last few weeks putting some things in 2 tubs for a yard sale later on. I am preplanning the pages for pictures Jan.-July of this year - visited Walgreens to pick up pictures developed using a coupon today. I am using up what I have and making a list to buy what I need for these pages and areas I am low in like beach embellishments because we go so much. I know I will spend much less on vacation now. Also worked on my menu list for vacation as we have a cabin to cook in. Pulled items out of my pantry and made a list of what I can use in my freezer. Spending less money now.

We cut $35 of of our cable bill when we renewed by dropping some channels. I also savd a ton at Victoria Secret using coupons, Angel rewards and a super sale, they had fragrances fo $5 (usualy $14) SO I bought for my DD for Christmas. I hve also been shopping almostexclusivly at Kroger ad getting money off my gas. We wait unitl both cars are empty to fill up. It saves us about $35 a month on gas. We had lots of unexpected medical and house repair bills this summer, so we are looking for any corners we can cut in our budget.

I'm finally getting the hang of ibotta. It took me almost 6 months to cash out $10 but now I'm doing about $10/month. I needed a new suit and last week ibotta had $10 off $75 at White House black market plus I had a $20 off $100 coupon and the jacket I wanted was 33% off. It was a nice deal. Plus I sent my rebate right to PayPal and transferred it to my bank which is super convenient.
A friend of mine told me about Ibotta a month ago, and it is really cool! Since I started 3 weeks ago, we've accumulated about $11.45 in rewards. Like others have said, the redemptions for generic items is really nice. We have Disney trips planned and are newlyweds trying to save up for a house, so every little bit we save helps!

I hear you on that! Just got married and April and literally our dream house went up for sale THIS MORNING. So my entire day at work is "how can I get enough money for a down payment?" haha.

I wish we had more of these opportunities through our utilities supplier to cut costs. I hear so many people talk about programs to spend less, rebates, etc., but I've never seen any with ours.

So jealous of your scrapbooking skills! I have always wanted to scrapbook but am so not creative. DH would be way better at it than I am!

I too am trying to stay away from the temptations. Funnily enough, it's never clothes or homegoods for me. My biggest issue since starting couponing is that I can't resist stocking up on something when it's on sale because "how can you pass up a good deal?" But now I have 20 bottles of shampoo and conditioner, 6 body washes, and 4 hand soaps. It's only DH and I haha. I told myself yesterday that I wasn't prohibited from buying anymore shampoo/soap during Kroger's next mega sale unless I literally get it FOR FREE.

Just cut $40 off our Directv by dropping movie channels! Wish I could get DH to commit to cutting out tv altogether and just going to Netflix/local channels, but he's not into it. :(

Yeah, I think I saw your news on another thread, Congrats on it being for sale!! :)But, I understand how stressful homebuying can be. We just sold DH's townhouse last year, and now my own parents have been hinting that DH & I should be looking for a new place (my parents have offered to financially assist us, which is the only reason I'm even open to the idea).. We just did our budget this weekend, and saving up for a home is stressful! I can't imagine when we have kids! Can't we just run away and live in Cinderella's castle?! :tink:princess::smickey:
I am sure you and your husband will figure things out, you sound like you are asking the right questions instead of rushing into anything. *fingers crossed for you both*

I'm getting ready to set mine up too! I actually work for the state government though, so I guess mine's not technically a 401k. I'm trying to figure all that out having never had a retirement account before!

I wish I could find deals like that at yard sales! I always feel like it's pure junk when I go. I'm not crafty though, so it would probably look awful if I tried to fix something up lol.
my sisters is not at all crafty and she says the same thing. I am a pintrest junkie and get lots of ideas from there.

Thank you! I'm so hoping this will work out. We have a lot of family/lifestyle factors that go into where we buy a home since we've always had horses and need property that can support that, so this house would really be a dream come true.

I might need to check it out then! I really want to scrapbook our Disneymoon!

Since our baby is due in November, I've been buying onsies in next summer sizes since they are all on clearance. I got over $200 worth of clothes so far for maybe $50. I'm also trying to stock up on diapers and wipes when coupons or sales happen.

We are renovating our house right now also and I found a gallon of paint for our master bedroom that I LOVE in the "oops paint" for $5! It's normally $45 a gallon! I also have made lunch and dinner at home for four days in a row (with the exception of one night of pizza because we had been busy working on house projects all day and realized it was 9:30 and we hadn't had dinner yet).

Congrats! It seems like there are always a lot of coupons and sales on diapers, but I know they get expensive! I know I've had a lot of friends who are successful at stocking up when Target is offering the deals to get gift cards when you spend a certain amount on baby items!

Awesome on the clearanced baby clothes! I always did that when the kids were small. I would caution against buying too many diapers though. Don't know if this is your first baby or maybe you have experience with this, but some diapers don't work for some babies....shape, leaking, etc. Sometimes you just need to see what works for you before stocking up too much. We could never seem to use huggies, for example.

joining if thats ok :)

On Monday I went shopping with Mummy for a treat ;) found lots of bargains and stuck to the need vs want ratio I had set myself- I also walked away from lots of purchases, here is what I bought
primark-
Pj's- Nemo!- £3 reduced from £8 Needed these as my others are too warm for summer, bought 3 pairs and listing the others on ebay- face value start price but will hopefully earn some disney dollars here
Olaf denim Shorts- £5 reduced from £12 - WANT however I will wear them in summer and winter (with tights)
tk (tj) maxx
Harem Pants- £10 reduced from £20 - NEED as I split my other pair and will wear them at summer camp
Jeans- £10 - NEED, these were a super bargain, red hollister skinny jeans 00 reduced from £59
Better batter gluten free cake mix - £1.50 reduced from £4.99, NEED as I am going to a potluck party next week
Filofax £1.49 needed for school work
Lush Cosmetics
Face cleanser £5.49

We got lunch out but with coupons and lunch meal deal meant we only spent £2.70 each and we took back leftovers. We decided against coffee on the way home saving about £7!

I'm not going too crazy with them. She is my first and I heard that some brands work and others don't, so I have been pretty much buying one pack of each brand/type in size nb and size 1. I figure it's worth the trial and error to get them on a discounted price. I spoke with a manager at Walmart and they said as long as the packs are unopened, you can return them for an exchange of size or brand at any time. So if one doesn't work, I can return the others!
