LA Parking Safe?

We will be traveling to LA/Disneyland on our road trip. I plan to stay the night in Stevenson Ranch (becuase it is cheap) then do our day of LA stops (Walk of Fame, La Brea Tar Pits & Natural History Museum) on our way down to Anaheim. Thanks to the awesomeness of people on this board, I know parking at Hollywood & Highland is perfect for the Walk of Fame and we will park in the museum lots for our other stops. So here it is:

Is it safe to park in these parking lots with our car full of stuff? I know any parking lot could have the potential for thieves, not just LA. But we don't often visit attractions with stuff in the car, so I am just nervous. Would I be better off staying the night somewhere close to one of our LA stops?

I've personally never had a problem with parking lots at busy attractions. Just keep all valuables out of sight and locked in the trunk or glove compartment.

I would not stay in Stevenson Ranch. You put yourself in heavy LA commuter traffic in the morning heading to LA.

What is your budget for a room? The Hollywood area has hotels/motels in almost every price range.

Thank you for the info! I was wanting to stay around $200/night. Then I stumbled upon the Magic Castle Hotel for about $250. It is going to be my son's birthday when we are in LA and he loved the idea of a 24 hr pool and snacks. Lol I liked the idea of a suite and walking distance to Walk of Fame.

I know there are plenty of options, however we are a family if 5. Many hotels I would like to stay at have max occupancy of 4. Any suggestions? Do you have experience with the Magic Castle Hotel?

Yes, just a simple general rule of having everything hidden or in the trunk. There are never any guarentees but take th usual precautions. I normally don't have any issues with valet BUT some structures are double parking and you leave your key with an attendant. I would say this isn't the case for museum parking and Hollywood and Highland. You should be ok.

Agree on not staying at Stevenson Ranch. Burbank is just over the hill. You'll get traffic everywhere but at least you are closer. I'm not really familiar with any of the hotels. You also have the option of taking the metro from Universal to Hollywood Highland (one stop).

It's a crapshoot not specific to Los Angeles. If you have a bunch of stuff in an unattended car, you never know. Just make sure you have good insurance.

We visited the LA Zoo on a travel day and opened the trunk to get sunscreen out of the suitcases before leaving the car locked in the parking lot. Not sure if someone had been watching us, but we came back a few hours later to find that the trunk had been broken into. Bags that resembled a purse were gone. Luckily we didn't have anything important in them. Just be careful, you never know what could happen. We've never had any other trouble.
