I think we are more excited than the kids!

My kids are older, 5th and 2nd grades, but it's a first for us all. I think my husband and I are more excited then they are! They are very excited, but I don't think they even know what to expect. They are excited about many facets of the trip from seeing palm trees and the ocean for the first time to dolphins and mickey. I am hoping that they have this remarkable trip...we've done so much to make it even more special. I really hope it works out. I will be truly disappointed if they are not impressed. LOL. Anyone ever feel like their kids were too old for Disney the first time?

My kids are 5 & 7 and I know I am more excited than they are. We did Disneyland when we visited CA in 2013 so that is the only thing they can compare it to. They aren’t really into Disney movies - they used to scare my 7yo DD so the characters are of no interest as far as I can tell. They really do like rides so that will be the draw for us I’m sure. They LOVE Star Wars (have been Luke & Leia the last 2 Halloweens) so I wish Disney were further along with their SW plans. They plan to spend the first morning at HS riding Star Tours as many times in a row as they can. I know they will love it once we are there though.

My co-worker took her girls when they were in 6th and 7th grades and the girls loved it once they got there. They tried to be too cool at home but had a blast once they were in the world.

The first time I went I was four. I don't remember anything but being scared of Cinderella (who was my favorite). The second time I went was in 4th grade and it was the best time! Epcot was new and I loved the World Showcase. It was a great age to go.

I totally get it. We surprised our kids at Christmas with a spring break trip. I was a little surprised at their lack of excitement leading up to our departure. But the morning we left they were beside themselves. And they cried when we came home. I think with kids its hard for them to actualize events that are a ways off. Even for older kids. Mine are 8 and 10 so close in age to yours.

I think most kids are the same, especially the first trip. You just can't wrap your head around it until your standing there.

It's true, our last trip trip I was more excited then anyone but my 15yo. She has gone lots of times and this was the first time I've seen her excited to go back. My youngest didn't remember his first trip but once there he was very excited. None of the kids wanted to come home....

I'm definitely consistently the most excited in our family. When we announced our first trip my kids were mostly confused. I showed them a few YouTube clips to get them excited and we did a countdown calendar, which helped. This time around my younger son was super excited but my older one freaked out a little about the airplane. They have gotten more excited about it as it has gotten closer. I think the countdown calendar helps!

To be clear, I know they will have the best time ever, kids just have weird reactions sometimes!

They will love it! Have they seen a lot of the old movies? Before I took my daughter (2) last year, I had been slowly prepping her with old school Disney-movies, pandora stations, books. She recognized every character, every ride, even every song...it was amazing. We would walk into MK and some random song would be playing (instrumental version only) and she'd call it out! One day they had a "name that tune" game at the pool...She got the Megara song from Hercules in about 4 notes..no one else knew it. Tears of pride!! Anyway, I think all of that prep helped her have an amazing time.

I am always more excited about everything than my boys are! It's just who we are and that is ok. They really can't image what it is going to be like. Just remember to not let their reactions to everything bring you down. If they are boys especially, you might not get that wow factor you would expect but they will love it and have an absolute blast. My boys have been at exactly those ages and it is great! Old enough to ditch strollers, ride almost everything, but still young enough to enjoy it all. Don't pass up on the "kid rides".....everyone needs to ride Dumbo at least once. Remind them that no one there knows them and it's perfectly fine to act like a little kid at WDW.

The first time I went was when I was 24. My wife had been several times before my first, and being a 24 year old guy I thought what was the big deal. Let me tell you when you go to Disney the first time it makes you feel like a kid again. I thought I would get sick of hearing the word magic, but i will say it was truly a magical week. We've been back twice since and we are going again in October and will be taking out twin 18 month old sons with us and I can't not wait to go back

I was wondering how old should the kids be to enjoy a Disney trip. We went to Disneyland when my daughter is 2 and she did not care as much. LOL!

When my DS was 3.5 he looooooved it. His favorite ride was Star Tours! And Aladdin's Magic Carpet (heaven help us).

My girls are 8 & 5 and it is their first trip. I am definitely more excited then they are and it's because I've been there before. Once they get there, I know they will enjoy it but they just don't know what to expect :)

My kids were excited but didn't really know what to expect. Now they are super excited for a 2nd trip! But yes I'm probably more excited than anyone. Like, I work JUST to get us to disney. Lol

This first trip was just really special. I feel like we had this amazing family experience that many families don't get to have, and we are incredibly lucky. A lot of friends were like oh it's a once in a lifetime experience.....and I'm like maybe for you, but I personally am going every year.....lol I spent so much time (literally YEARS) & effort planning this trip, it could not have gone better. And it's probably a much better experience than those that are only going once in a lifetime, that don't research or plan and just show up. I could never. Lol

I don't think that is too old. They'll probably be a little shell-shocked at first and then have a blast. You'll probably be wiped out by the time they are done dragging you around! My first visit wasn't until I was 13 and I loved it.

I'm able to sustain the excitement longer than the kids - we won't be back until October 2016 and my kids could not care less at this moment, but I'm excited :).
