WDW Computer system down

Was online at 6:00 am to book my ADR's this morning and couldn't get anything past day 1. Then called at 7:00 , held for 20 minutes only for them to say system is undergoing "enhancements" and may be done in about an hour. Not amused :)

System "enhancements " again today. :guilty: I called at 1200 pm and was told the computers are down for 2.5 to 3 hrs. I just called again and was told it's going to be another 3.5 to 4 hrs!!! This is ridiculous, I feel bad for the people making holiday ADR's 180 days out. It's hard enough trying to get ADR's for the holiday season, now you have to wait till it's back up working. :furious:

Amazing how all the IT that WORKS at Disney (inside the P&R) EVERY day without flaw never gets any press. It's the forward-facing stuff that causes problems, guys, and while Im not diminishing the importance of that, it's important to remember what does work too.

Maybe Disney could just text or tweet when the site IS working. ;>)

Every Day without flaw? Not in my experience.

And I'm not diminishing all that does work but everything goes down. I remember when they switched to a new F&B POS system years ago. Absolute chaos from the moment food locations opened for the day.

I really should have left the resorts out of my post. What I was speaking to was Rides and Shows, and safety systems, and the parks' systems in general. Sorry. I should have been clearer in my post.

I've been told that the resort system, which is named "LILO," is as tempermental as a five year old.

...and I suspect it's because the inside systems have a REAL Change Control Protocol. Good for you, and you should be proud of it :). Now please, go find whoever thinks they are a CIO, and COMPLAIN about the dysfunctional front ends.... they are being operated in much the same fashion as a Playground, when they SHOULD be operated as serious Business Systems.

YOU are innocent of any of these issues.... the current phoney CIO, however, is 100% to blame for them.

OH yea. ;)

If you're willing, you can try to separate the fcns of WDI/IS (Information SECURITY) and Forward-Facing IT because that's how it's broken up internally. They are not the same business units and actually have little to no interaction with one another. WDI/IS follows a whole different set of protocols.

As for the rest of it, I won't touch that. :D

Seriously? Well, that pretty much explains the problem. For reference - with 27 years working in IT Research at a fortune 500.... R&D playgrounds are great, and they are needed. But a funny thing happens when a responsible Corporation wants to go to PRODUCTION - there really needs to be a hand-off to mainstream IS, complete with proper change control. Until that happens? Whatever it is remains a Playground. GOOD IT Research people get this - and quickly learn to work in both organizations, valuing "hand off" as the culmination of their work - which frees them to work on the NEXT money making technology.

Seriously - you folks need a good CIO. I'm too old, and whatever you have now (Susan O'Day?).... not cutting it. Example: I can't see how a forward facing Security system does not directly impact Information SECURITY. Different Business Units? What a nightmare.....

Agree that there seem to be too many issues. Disney is not the only one, some are more serious with bigger financial impacts than a ADR or fastpass.

True, we just got an upgraded system at the hospital I work at and they are still working out the kinks. So you could say it was foolish to complain, when there are more serious impacts with computer problems than ADR's and fastpasses.
I just vented, after dealing with the IT team for over three weeks it gets frustrating. We had very little problems before they upgraded, now it seems like everyday I'm on the phone with the IT team. And I'm sure they are sick and tired of all the calls they get now too! Some times I feel like just doing this :badpc: And wish we could go back to documenting in charts!

Not foolish at all! My point with the article was that while we typically bash Disney IT (deservedly so), it is not unique to Disney. I would also say that for the most part, Disney's IT issues do not impact their revenue stream directly (we can argue it impacts future business) if it did probably would not have as many issues. With Federal govt hacks, personal info being stolen everyday. Credit cards (I have had the same card reissued at least 3 times this year) data being stolen, Disney is in good company.
