Our first trip to the "Dark Side"

cafe 4 has never been known for great food.........
or decent food.........

blondies is my fall back place to go to when hunger strikes and i'm at ioa

I should have read up better but when you have a hungry 5 yr old, who is a cranky butt when hungry you gotta do what you gotta do sometimes! :( My oldest wanted to go to the Capt. America Diner but the other was closer. Ah well, live and learn, we know for our next trip!

i've made the same mistake before, i think we all have at one time or another.
others warned me years and years ago, but i had boys that thought it would be cool to eat there.

but your oldest did get to hit the place and now you can take it off your list for future places to eat at!

Sorry about the bad experience at Cafe 4, it's bad enough the rake you an arm and a leg for a meal at the parks. But to have it inedible is a shame. We ate at Jurassic Park area the last time we were there, it was pricey but edible. Yay you got AP's!! And it was nice of them not having you loose the two days you used!!

So playing catch up again! On to Wed (Day 3), plan was to arrive by 8 head directly to IOA and WWoHP to get those rides done!

Once inside the parks, we were herded over to Seuss Landing with everyone else, the TM we asked earlier had said sometimes they allow AP holders to go i with EE people, so we asked, but they had stopped doing that in May. Darn lol he told us to head thru Seuss Landing, check out stores, take pics etc and usually they open the gates a few mins early to the rest of the guests. I think everyone there when we were there were EE people, there was not really anyone else in Seuss Landing with us. ;) Just as we came out of the first shop, the TM we spoke to earlier came up and told us they just took down the gates, so off we went to see HP stuff!

Yes, it was crazy busy already, the wait time for Forbidden Journey was already at 60 mins (wow!) but we knew we had to get in line regardless. So up we went with our stroller (as a wheelchair) and I am guessing they put us through the castle tour line not really sure honestly. We had to do the child swap for this because the little was not big enough and she would have not been able to handle that ride! So hubby and the kids went and rode, back and I rode with the kids again and we were done within 15 mins total if that!

So I have to tell a funny story, you know you can't take anything on the ride, no backpacks etc. My middle one, had apparently forgotten she had her sunglasses on her head and no TM said anything, so she rode with hubby and oldest girl first. When she got back she was almost in tears, :( I asked if she was scared, she said yes that she felt spiders crawling on her etc. She was flipping out on the ride. :( So anyway, I told her she did not have to ride again, but she wanted too, so we went and I reached over the best I could and held her hand. She did fine. So we are outside the castle and she goes to put her sunglasses on, hey they are gone. The ride tilts you back pretty far, so they came off of her, then slid down behind her neck and were bothering her the rest of the time, hence she thought something was on her! lol :rotfl:

Ahh so after FJ, we let the big ones go on Dueling Dragons and it was maybe a 10 minute wait. Oh my, you thought the world was ending for the 5 yr old! :scared:she had a melt down, and I tried to get her to take pics with the conductor but nope no go. Finally calmed her down with a butterbeer!

When the big ones got back they headed to Flight of the Hippogriff, I did not ride.

Then we headed over to the Hogwarts Express! It was virtually empty!

So back over to USO! It was still fairly crowded in Diagon Alley, so the littles and I headed out to the knights bus while hubby and oldest got in line for some more butter beer! Why yes we do have an addiction! lol

Will be back to finish Wed soon! :)

Enjoyed your update, loved the story about your middle DD!! Great pictures too, the one with your little DD sipping on her butter beer. ( She looks like she is thinking " this is not going to take away how I'm feeling that I can't go on the ride, but it helps!) lol :rotfl2:

Joining in! We are planning a trip for December 2016 to Universal once the new King Kong attraction opens and reading these reports gets me even more excited. We haven't been in 10 years so a lot has changed. Congrats on becoming annual pass holders. Any plans to return yet?

Oh bless the little one......she still doesn't look happy despite the bb.......she is cute as a button though!

Lovely pictures, you can really see how much fun you are having......

Loving your TR! Can't wait to hear more, although I'm sorry that you haven't had much luck with your food there. We didn't do any of the counter service meals when we went. Still, it looks like your girls are having a great time! :)

Enjoying your report so much - thanks for posting! We are first timers (usually go to WDW) heading there next April for 2 days prior to taking a cruise. We are all super excited (the whole family are huge HP fans) and as many have already said, I am enjoying your trip so much. Great pics! I am sitting here thinking that we are going to have to be mindful of enjoying all the photo ops as you did. Beautiful family!

love your trip report! I cannot get over how there are literally NO PEOPLE in the pics!! it's like you had the park to yourself! What a change from Disney!

Your family is just adorable and it looks like you're having such a wonderful time!!! I love all the photo ops ! Universal looks like it's just a blast!!!

Bwhahah you're exactly right! She did ride the hippogriff with the hubs and sisters, you just can't really see her because she is on the other side of him. She loved it and was in a much better mood after that!

great pics of your girls.

they all look happy!

Thanks, they were quite in heaven, all big HP fans!

Thanks for joining, I am so behind! :( Sorry about that to everyone. I bet you'll have a blast, we do have a trip planned (tentatively) for next Summer, either the end of May or early June again. We need to get FIL to book our room again at his time share, but I think we are going to splurge for 1 night at one of the onsite hotels for express pass for 2 days. Though we did almost everything, it would have been nice esp for the big ones to ride the coasters faster, so we could have more family time instead of being split. So we'll see!

I know, that was her first sip, she was like this MIGHT make me happy but don't count on it!

Thanks! Yeah, I was disappointed but I guess you get what you pay for. We will plan better for our next trip and since we really only ate at the parks once a day, it could have been worse I suppose had we had 3 meals each day. They truly did and are still talking about it even now.

Thanks for joining in :) This was my hubby and kids first time to USO, I had been but well over 20 years ago and not much was the same. I did miss the favs: back to the future, jaws etc. but pleasantly surprised with the New (to me) rides. We caught those last few pics on the way out around 11 or so I think. The ones in city walk, I can't believe there is really no one else in the pics!

Thank you :) We really did not expect crowds to be quite this low. The only parts that were crammed were HP areas, most of the other stuff was not super busy or we just did well in the minimal planning, get there early, leave around lunch and head back at 5-6. We did Disney around Memorial Day 2009 and also had a fairly decent time and managed to miss a good portion of crazy crowds. Though I did plan like crazy for that trip! ;)

So sorry to leave you all hanging, I was sitting here trying to remember what we did on Wed evening when we returned...ummm.. yeah. I can't recall. I am thinking we just hit some favorite rides again, I know we pretty much stayed until closing but I can't recall much else. :( I don't have any pictures from that evening, so we'll just go with that! :duck:

So on to Thurs- this was our sleeping in day! We did not get up early to head to the parks, we were pretty exhausted by Wed night, which is why I don't think I recall much:rolleyes1 so our plan this day was to sleep in, maybe swim, then head to the parks around 3-4 because we had a mission- to meet the super heroes! We had missed them each of the other days. HOLY cow it was SOOO hot that Thurs afternoon, which is why usually went back to the hotel midday plus my little one has meds that overheats her easily. We took our cooling towel for her and a misting fan, those helped tremendously paired with trying to stay in shade as much as possible.

We arrived about 3 and go into the parks and headed over to the Jurassic Park area, but it was soo hot we ended up finding some shade to sit under why hubby got us some frozen lemonade. It was yummy. However, it was soon to be 4 when he got back so we quickly headed back over to Marvel to meet some of the super heroes!

First up Captain America - my oldest is a huge fan, we had worn our super hero shirts the first day in hopes to do all this but we missed the times. Oh well! :charac2:

1438137_58890242_zpsxfhiabdq.jpg

Then it was time for Wolverine (my fav) he could not get over how blonde the little ones hair was lol
pic%2011_zpshtclqzno.jpg

Quickly got in line for Storm and Rouge - we asked if we had enough time because I knew the little one would be mad if we got in line and then didn't see them. The TM was nice and said yep you go right ahead, she had just called out a 5 min warning, but I am guessing that means if you are in line in that 5 mins, you get to meet if not, you'll have to catch them next time.
IMG_8206_zpsqpqfkbru.jpg

Finally we got to meet Cyclops - however it wasn't until after that we realized he had been on the escape LOL there was a couple kids I guess that had stopped him on his way out of his normal spot and he was nice and took pics. He saw us and said come on real quick lol and took a pic with the kids and then ran off like a super hero trying to not been found :rotfl2:

Hurray for Superheroes!! So they were typically out around 4pm? Is that the only time during the day, to your recollection? And did you notice if the times varied much? Cheers and great pics!

superheroes come out at set regular times.
it is listed in the park guide map.
be sure to pick one up when you go

I love the poses your middle one does. She seems very theatrical

Oh yes, very much so! lol She's over the top sometimes but gotta love it.

They were so happy to meet them :) I wish we could have done more earlier in the week and caught some of the others but there is next time! As macraven says below they are listed, they were listed at least 4 different times (some around 10 or 11 and some in the afternoon. I think 4pm is the last time when we were there if I recall.

Great advice :)

Love the Super Heros pics :thumbsup2. So glad you were able to catch them all!! Did you guys also get a chance to meet Dr. Doom and the Green Goblin in the Marvel area during your trip?

I didn't even see where they sold frozen lemonade in Jurassic Park....will have to keep my eyes peeled for that on our next visit. Its one of my favourite cool-down treats!

And yay for some pool time at the resort  . Sometimes that kind of laid back, unscheduled fun is the where the best family vacation memories are made ::yes:: .

So Day 4 cont... after the super heroes meet, we headed over to Hogsmeade in hopes to hit the Three Broomsticks for dinner. It was probably 5 or so by the time we got over there. It luckily was not really busy at all and we got right on in, waited in line for maybe 5 mins. We got to the counter and placed our order, 2 of the rib/chicken platters, turkey leg platter, and 2 kids meals and drinks, it was around $80 or so. However, we had our 2 dining cards that we got from signing up for the Amex card, so we paid about $40 total. YAY! The atmosphere in there was amazing, I didn't love the seating lol to hard, some taller chairs, some shorter, some benches etc. but it was really neat and I am glad we ate there. We all enjoyed the food.

So quite comically the oldest carried the 2 rib/chicken platters and 2 drink tray while I pushed the stroller over to the table, she got all the way there, went to sit the tray down, and it was to heavy towards the front (where the drinks were) and the entire thing tipped, drinks all over the food. :scared::sad::sad::sad: and all I could do was laugh. So she goes to tell hubby so they can get us another tray of food/drink. She kept it pretty much contained to the tray, some on the table but none on the floor really. A server who was out there cleaning saw it, so she came over to clean up the rest for us. She took the tray, and was holding it in one hand while trying to sweep the stuff on the table on to it...and bam she dropped the entire tray of food/drink all over the floor and chair. :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: I mean really how in the world can we go from bad to worse? lol She just laughed and laughed, a couple of the other servers come to help and a few mins later we got a new tray of food and drink along with a free butterbeer (as long as we promised not to spill it) :rotfl::banana:.

A few pics

After exploring the shops and buying a few things, I headed to Honeydukes and hubby was out looking around with the kids, he headed over to Ollivanders since there was NO line.

I bought way to much stuff lol

these are disgustingly awesome! My kids had a great time trying them out except for those nasty ones :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
IMG_8200_zps2wl2jf33.jpg

I bought a candy jar that says Honeydukes on it with some ribbon type candy in it, but I forgot to take a picture. oops lol we also got a chocolate frog to split, 3 chocolate wands, and 3 cauldron cakes. The kids said the cakes were delish, I should have bought hubby and I one too lol but I was already spending too much $$$ :cool2:

So when I came out, I found out my middle one (the character) had got chosen for the wand ceremony. She was in heaven and soo happy! I am sad to miss it and even more upset that hubbys phone was dead and he didn't get to take any pictures.:eek::confused3:sad: Ah well, it was an experience for her, so I guess that is what matters. She has a interactive wand now. Little bit was a little upset because she wanted one, so I said well we have another day to try for you and if you don't get chosen we'll buy you one.

So that was pretty much it for the day, we finally got to explore hogsmeade and not be super crowded, all in all we had a great day 4!

What a great family photo of all of you with the castle in the back ground. I love it!

You handled the dinner time chaos with the class of a mom who's been there, done that and doesn't sweat the small stuff.....you rock :thumbsup2 . That's not always easy to do when you're tired, hot, and hungry!! And kudos to the servers and clean up crew who also had such a great sense of humor......that made me very happy to read :) .

Love, love, LOVE the chocolate wands!! I didn't even see those in Honeydukes? Were they crazy expensive? They would make great souvenirs for family and friends back home.

So sorry you missed out on your middle DD being selected at Olivanders :guilty: ... I would be bummed about missing pics of that experience too. But how cool she was chosen!! :woohoo: What a great memory that will be for her! (and I bet all her friends back home will be jealous as heck)
