I think I heard it was the fastest hat trick in WWC history.

Only the 2nd one in the Final (the first may have been in the men's).

Wonderful game, wonderful playing and I am so happy to see and hear of more people paying attention to these female athletes. In the football (soccer) world they are just as talented, just as driven, and lacking in all the drama queens the men have--the best of the best.

We had my dd's 10 soccer team and their families here. Such a fun night and the girls were very excited.

Am I the only one with mixed feelings about this? I mean, sure, I want them to win, but the whole Hope Solo domestic abuse accusations makes me feel a bit weird about the whole thing.

That should not detract from the accomplishments of the other athletes. I have no mixed feelings at all - those women were spectacular

I didn't say it did. Just like Ray Rice wouldn't detract from the rest of the Ravens if he hadn't been suspended and if they had won the Super Bowl this year. My problem, in both cases, is with the organization.

Hope Solo has not yet been found guilty of her actions so her playing in the World Cup should not be an issue. From the information that has been released in the media I certainly don't agree with what she allegedly did, but I am not the Judge or Jury and either is the Soccer Federation that she works under.

Had this been a male athlete, the uproar would have been over the top. Extreme double standard.

I guess I see a difference between a bar fight and knocking out one's spouse for both men and women.

Male athletes are suspended by their teams all the time without being charged or convicted of a crime.

There are, but the players usual put in some sort of an appeal. It is up to the individual sport to have a hearing for that player to determine what the plan will be. I guess the Women's Soccer federation didn't see it was appropriate at this time to suspend her. That is a decision of the Soccer Federation and has nothing to do with Hope Solo.
