Getting scooter from hotel to park and back

If we rent an ECV from one of the local companies, how do we get it from the hotel to the park. Do the buses accommodate them? It is a hassle? We are staying at Boardwalk Villas, and can "walk" to Epcot, but I wasn't sure how we'd get to the other parks. Thanks in advance!

I have not personally used an ECV, but they can be accommodated on buses as long as they meet certain size requirements. Here is a sticky post about the requirements: http://www.disboards.com/threads/policy-about-size-of-scooters-on-buses.2566471/

I think each bus can accommodate up to 2 ECVs, so it's possible that the bus could be full when it reaches you and you'd have to wait for another bus, but you can transport your scooter on the Walt Disney transportation buses.

Most WDW transportation is both wheelchair and ECV accessible.
There are a few boats that go from the MK area resorts to MK that are not, but even if one way is not accessible, there will always be an alternate way that is.

All buses have at least 2 tie down spots for wheelchairs and ECVs. Some have 3 and a few have 4 spots.
If you follow this link to the disABILITIES FAQs thread, there is information about transportation in posts 4 and 8.

The thread is also stuck near the top of the board and there is a link in my signature.

As PP stated, all WDW buses can carry ecvs. They have room for 2 or 3 depending on the model of the bus.

Every bus stop has a painted rectangle on the ground marked with the HC symbol. This is where you park when waiting for the bus. It aligns with the back door of the bus, which is where the lift is located. The bus driver will open the back door and load you first, and secure it in place before opening the front door for the other guests. Your party can board with you. If your party is larger than 6, the remainder should board through the front with the rest of the guests. At your destination you will be off loaded last, after the other guests have departed.

HTH.

For Boardwalk Villas, there are walking paths to both Epcot and the Studios OR you can take the boats to either park.

To get to Downtown Disney or the other parks, there is a bus stop near the front/main entrance to the Boardwalk.
If you are in Epcot, you can take the monorail to the Transportation and Ticket Center near MK and then take the ferry boat or a second monorail to MK.

I'm going to answer the part about scooters being a hassle with Disney transportation. I wouldn't call it a hassle, but you do need to get the scooter on and off the bus. At times it can be tight getting the scooter into position. Although, the bus drivers are kind it's not their job to do this for you. The way it usually works is you are the first to board with your party on the bus, but the last to get off. You wait your turn to get on the bus. This can mean you may have to wait for a second bus. We have helped some scooter bound people with this process ourselves. They don't like getting the scooter on and off the bus. I think doing the boats or ferries are better modes then the buses for scooters. Monorails are probably the best way to do a scooter.

We prefer using a car back and forth to the parks with a portable scooter. Usually, you need two people for this process to get it in and out of the trunk of a car. It's easier with a SUV or van.

We have a hc placard so we like to drive to the parks. Except MK. The buses can get full and sometimes other guests are not friendly about the extra time. We stayed at the Boardwalk last summer and hubby scootered his way to both Epcot and Studios. Both walks are easy. We also put lights on the scooter do people can see him! This year staying at Bay Lake so we can be bus free!!

Thanks everyone for the info. My sister can walk short distances, but her knees would never make it as far as we'll need to go. I appreciate the insights!

We used Buena Vista Scooter rentals when we stayed at the Boardwalk Vilas last October. They have a small kiosk set up right in front of the resort, though we called to secure our rentals ahead of time. You get 10% off if you mention allears.net. We had no problem getting around. The buses accommodate the scooters and the bus drivers were always helpful and cheerful when helping us on. We went on boats several times. That was a little nerve-wracking as there was a gap between the boat and the pier, but we managed not to fall in. :)

If you rent from one of the Disney Featured Providers they'll deliver it to your resort.
Just to be absolutely clear - and fair to all companies :) - featured companies can leave your rental with Bell Services. All companies deliver to your resort.

We've never found using the Disney buses with ECV's a hassle at all. The bus drivers we've encountered have all been super polite and helpful. They've talked us through the process of getting the ECV up and down the ramp, and even sometimes done it for us if there was a big hurry. The bus drivers have been some of the best folks I've ever met on Disney property!
