i want to do one of the Workd of Color restaurant packages-which wd you think a seven year old boy wd love the most?

Also, we are going Labor Day weekend-is it busy?

Finally definitely doing Bayou restaurant at Disneyland-but anyone have another recommendation? Thanks!

Another WDW oldie freaked out by being a disneyland newbie!

My son likes Carthay Circle. We usually book an early dinner reservation and we go outside on the upper balcony and watch the Pixar Parade from there.

As for Labour Day weekend, we've always avoided going then but I think it would be pretty busy.

That sounds great with the balcony-what time is the parade? Does the paint parade also go by there?

PtN parade is in DL and Pixar/Carthay/WoC is in DCA. Yes Labor Day weekend will be very busy, there's also a half marathon taking place that weekend. I would just compare the restaurant menus to see which one your son would prefer. As far as other good places to eat I would recommend Plaza Inn for the fried chicken and Cafe Orleans for the Monte Cristo.

Are you coming for the Disneyland Half? It will be quite crowded in the parks, especially in the afternoons. The mornings aren't bad, but after about noon, it gets worse as the runners enter the parks.

I 2nd Plaza Inn, great fried chicken and I always get a double portion of mashed potatoes instead of potatoes and green beans. Also the fusilli pasta with chicken at Redd Rockets Pizza Port is "out of this world" (you see what I did there?).

For a great snack grab a skewer at Bengal BBQ or some Mickey Beignets at the Mint Julep Bar, both are excellent.

Also the toasted cheese sandwich and tomato soup at Jolly Holiday is a nice lighter meal.

I don't have any advice on the World of Color meals, never tried any of them.

For a seven-year old and with a World of Color package, I would recommend Ariel's Grotto. Character dining is a big hit here. Although my personal major con was the food. Not bad but not great. However, I did like the world of color RSVP. Just don't stand way in the front during the show because you will get very soaked!

I LOVE Blue Bayou, i've eaten there a good handful of times. Their gumbo is amazing! And as everyone mentioned the fried chicken at Plaza Inn is great! But if you're looking for a deal and a sit down I would suggest Big Thunder Ranch. It's an all you can eat barbecue spot with drinks included.

Ariel's Grotto only does WOC Dinner packages and there are NOT characters there at that time. Characters only appear at breakfast and lunch. Also, all the characters at Ariel's Grotto are Princesses so not sure how a 7YO Boy might enjoy that (more power to him if he does!).

I second those recommending Carthay Circle for your WOC dining option. The food is good, the restaurant/atmosphere is wonderful, and you have the choice of doing either lunch or dinner. We did a late WOC lunch (2:30ish) at CC during my trip in December. It saved us about $20 (versus going at dinner) per adult in our party and we just grabbed small snacks later in the evening if any of us got hungry.

I apologize about ariels grotto, that is correct information. I ate there probably when it first opened and things have changed...

I am doing the races...very excited first time there and the 60th to boot! Is it horrifically busy? Now I'm a bit worried.

The options are Carthay Circle, Ariel's Grotto (non character dinner), and Wine Country Trattoria, right?

I have only done the lunch at Carthay Circle because honestly I had trouble finding anything on the menus at the other two places that I'd enjoy. All the menus are online, and I love to explore them as I'm planning!

Personally I wouldn't touch Arial's Grotto with a 16ft barge pole. Over priced and poor food IMHO. Had a dreadful breakfast there last year. Once bitten and all that!

Oh no I just did Ariel's for dinner! I loved how carthay looks but the menu doesn't interest us. My DS loves all things sea and the menu looked good so I pixked ariels. Shd I change?

@RadioFanatic I guess it's like anywhere, some people have good experiences and some bad. I'm sure there are those who love Ariel's and only ever have good food. I sent my breakfast back twice because it wasn't that warm and was ill afterwards. My wife and daughter were fine though and liked it. Would be interesting to hear other's thoughts on the place.

Being English and living in England, US standards of food and service in general are much higher than what we get at home. The stereotypes are pretty much true sadly. One of the reasons that we love the US so much is that the food is almost always better served, better value, bigger portioned and in a nicer environment.

So when I get a bad meal, I really notice it!

Just took 7 year old to Carthay Circle lunch for WOC package. She loved it!

She had the salmon and I tasted it, very good!

FYI, menu options change seasonally at that restaurant so just be aware.

Not sure if it's on the WoC menu, but my kids loved the spaghetti and meatballs at Wine Country Trattoria

We loved the wine country woc package. Everything our party ordered was fantastic.

I would avoid Ariel's. The last two times we went (once for breakfast and once for lunch) wasn't good.
