The Never Ending Dining Review! Feb/April 2015 Update: Cowish

Namaste Food Truck

Before I get to my review of Yachtsman, here's a little bonus dining review! Because our reservation at Yachtsman was so late (9pm), we needed a snack earlier in the evening, around 6:30 or 7:00. We were hanging out in Downtown Disney, so we decided to visit the food trucks! After perusing the offerings at the various trucks, we decided on the "Namaste" Animal Kingdom themed one. DH and I decided to share the "dipping safari":

This was absolutely delicious. It came with two pieces of naan bread, two samosas, and three dipping sauces. The sauces were Cucumber and Yogurt Raita, Hummus, and Coriander Chutney. They were all great! My only complaint is that the pieces of naan are pretty small, and you don't really have enough to get up all of the delicious dips. But I'd still recommend this if you're looking for a good snack in DTD, especially something to hold you over til dinner!

Wow your food from namaste looks great. That dipping platter is totally up my alley

Ooo, I like how that dipping safari looks although before I read your commentary below the picture, I was thinking about how it looks like it needs more things to dip! I'm surprised they don't give at least 2 more pieces of naan.

The dips look great. I wonder if you'd be able to order some extra naan to enjoy all the dips.

It was really nice to get something like that at a food truck!

Exactly! It's the same issue with the bread service at Sanaa, though I recently learned you can order more naan for an extra fee. Maybe they would do the same at the truck if you asked.

I didn't even think to ask that but if I get it again I would definitely investigate!

That food truck snack looks delicious! I'll have to find someone to eat it with me sometime (DH says he doesn't eat "dips" :lmao:)

OP - your photos are great! Keep em coming!

Thank you! More coming soon!

Am I remembering correctly that your DH is a bit on the picky side? lol I'll be honest that this was so good I could have easily eaten the whole thing myself ;)

Yachtsman Steakhouse

The evening after the half marathon we had dinner planned at signature restaurant that was new to us, the Yachtsman Steakhouse! We were eating with two other couples who had participated in race weekend. One of the couples both works for Disney and had a coupon they could use, but it could only be used at Yachtsman after 9pm so we had a late reservation there.

We both got drinks to start - DH had a glass of wine, while I went with the Pimms punch:

It was pleasant and not too sweet. I didn't take a picture of the bread, but it was served to us with roasted garlic which was delicious. Dh absolutely loved this, and he's not usually a big fan of garlic.

For his meal DH got the prime rib-eye steak (
Brioche, Bone Marrow, Point Reyes Blue Cheese Butter):

He loved it and said it was everything a great steak ought to be. He gave it a 10 out of 10. It came with bone marrow, which was something quite different that he was willing to try. He ended up liking it, saying it was very tasty. He also added that "anyone on a quest for new food knowledge should not skip it."

This pic is a little dark, but I got the filet mignon (
Mashed Potatoes and Cabernet Wine Sauce):

It was definitely one of the best steaks I've had. The mashed potatoes were fine, they were typical good mashed potatoes. I will confess here though that I'm just not a huge steak lover. I enjoy it but tend to like other things more, which makes it not worth the price. Being a steakhouse I knew I had to get steak this time around, but I'm not sure if I would again here. Don't get me wrong, it was a fantastic steak. I would give it a 9 out of 10.

One thing I would definitely order again though was a side of the truffle mac and cheese, which I shared with one of the others girls:

This was so incredibly good. It was rich and cheesy and delicious and honestly next time I would just order this as my meal because it was just so good. 10 out of 10.

We didn't order the desserts, but it was one of the girls' birthdays and she had a special order cake! She asked for it to be Jasmine inspired and this is what they came up with:

The cake was so good - it was nice and moist and had I think a raspberry filling. We had a little there and she gave us some to take back to the room with us too to save for later.

I do think it's worth mentioning that while the food was delicious and the server was very knowledgeable and nice, the service was very slow. We were there for almost three hours, and we didn't even get appetizers. After getting up at 3 in the morning for the race, we were so tired by the end of the night. It took a really, really long time for him to bring our check. Maybe he thought we wanted to socialize more over cake, but I think it was about a half hour between the time he brought the cake out and the time he brought the check. It got a little frustrating at that point. I know the signatures are a slower, more leisurely experience, but that seemed a little much, especially when we were literally the only ones left in the restaurant.

Nevertheless, Yachtsman gets a 9.5 out of 10 from us. It was excellent and we will probably be back here in the future!

Normally I do a cost breakdown, but this meal was a little different because our friend graciously shared her discount. It could be used for up to 4 people, so she used it on herself and her husband, my husband, and the other couple's husband. DH's steak was originall $54, but we got 50% off of that. So here's what was on our tab without the discount:

Pimms Punch - $10.25
Wine - $13.00
Filet Mignon - $49
(the truffle mac and cheese ended up on the other check as well)

Total with TiW discount and tax/tip: $74.57

Tables in Wonderland savings on this meal: $14.45
Total saved with TiW on this trip so far: $39.04

The yachtsman looks very good. Can't say I've ever had bone marrow but I've heard good things about it. That cake looks great we ordered one last trip and loved ours as well.

We loveYM!! Their filet is one of the best I have ever had. I am glad you guys enjoyed it :)

My 6 year old's favorite food is bone marrow. Next time, Yachtsman! Looks delicious!

That's funny and awesome that your 6 year old likes bone marrow. He sounds like an adventurous eater!

Disney seems to do really well with custom cakes! I've seen pictures of some gorgeous ones.

Yes, it was absolutely excellent!

You'll see in my soon to be written latest dining report, that my hubby and I ordered the exact some foods as you all did on your visit to Yachtsman. I'm happy to report it didn't disappoint for us either. Steak perfection

Oh good, I'll look forward to reading what you have to say about it as well!

Gah! I forgot to respond!

I can't believe DH got the bone marrow, he's quite adventurous! I don't know if I could bring myself to try it even knowing that he gave it a good review. I think the fact that you admit to not being a big steak lover and still give the meal an almost perfect score really shows what a great restaurant Yachtsman is. That mac & cheese looks absolutely heavenly, so creamy! Man, I can't wait to go back.

I love eating at the Yachtsman! The garlic with the roasted onion rolls is so delicious. We haven't been back in a few trips but I'm seriously considering going back this trip.

He's really into new experiences, so he'll try anything once. This one worked out in that he actually enjoyed it! There have been other times where he's tried weird things that were not so good. And yes, even without loving steak I loved Yachtsman! I don't think it's my favorite signature we've tried so far just because of the fact that it's steak focused, but it's really really good.

Mmm, the garlic and rolls! I know we'll definitely be back at Yachtsman at some point.

Pinocchio Village Haus

I can't believe it's been a month since I wrote a dining review! Yikes! I'm sorry, it seems that time just got away from me this summer with lots going on. But I'm still here, I promise!

So on our Magic Kingdom day we decided to just grab some food at a quick service place. We didn't have a particular location in mind but decided to try something we hadn't before - Pinocchio Village Haus!

For his meal, DH decided to go with the pepperoni flatbread:

He gave it an 8 out of 10. He described it as a tasty flatbread. For him it had a little sentimental value because it tasted just like a flatbread he used to get in college. It's a pretty straightforward dish but good!

I got the caprese flatbread:

I thought this was quite tasty! A great combination of flavors and I appreciate the fact that they had a good amount of fresh basil on top. I'd give it an 8 out of 10.

We also got a side of the pesto garlic rolls:

These were very good, but I didn't taste much pesto. They mostly just tasted like regular garlic rolls with maybe a hint of pesto. They were still delicious, but I'd give them a 7.5 out of 10.

Overall we give Pinocchio Village Haus an 8 out of 10. I was very pleased with our meal here, considering I don't hear much about it. The flatbreads are basically pizza, but it's better pizza than what they have at Pizza Planet or Pizzafari.

Welcome back! Hope you are having a good summer.

Glad your meal with Pinocchio was good. It gets panned a lot but we enjoyed the flat breads in the past too.
