12 Hollywood Studios Rumors (A Disney Rumors video is on pg. 1) and (an update is on pg. 16)

There have been other recent successful Muppets movies too (even if not everyone claims to like them), so there is still a fanbase there to support an attraction. The question will be whether or not they can rebuild a movie audience, or whether it should rebuild the fans through the Disney channel (or similar). The ride is probably safe in the short term, but not if they can't develop more interest in the franchise. Part of the problem with the Muppets, in my opinion, is that they were created for adults originally, but now are geared towards children without altering the personalities or the frequent appearances the children need to get attached to products/shows/franchises. I did and do still love the Muppets, but my 4 kids are hit and miss with them. They loved the show at DHS , but I had to make them go because they didn't really know who the Muppets were - and I own all 3 seasons of the TV show. Kids need awareness to become fans.

I agree, I am a muppets fan. I do know they have updated the preshow within the last year.

I think The Muppets getting an upgrade will really depend on the TV shows relaunch this fall, higher ratings will mean higher merchandising.

This thread... @disneysource is as usual missing. Well to go to a better source Articos said the wheels are turning behind the scenes and we may see progress early next year.

the only thing I can agree with is the D23 announcement

I don't think that's even a guarantee, at least not for WDW. What I have been hearing on other boards is that there will probably be an announcement for Star Wars in DL, but there might not be any substantial announcement about DHS. Rumor is that any Star Wars expansion will not start until after Avatar is open.

I agree it's been mixed on what will be said at D23. They have announced there will be a parks and resorts segment headed by Chapek and its in a bigger venue than previous years.

Latest rumor I have heard is things behind the scenes have started. The black box theater for example. 2016 it's expected things will start shaping up:

Unsubstantiated at this point TOTS...

You can say that about every rumor.

The truth is that Disney is becoming more willing to spend because of Universal. If there was no Universal then they wouldn't be doing it, but luckily they do exist and Florida park fans are really benefiting because of the competition.

That works both ways. Uni sat back and didn't do a lot until he last 8 years when they finally saw their attendance was not going up. Comcast paid a fortune for HP to get things rolling. Right now I think Uni biggest issue in the next few years will be Sea World as they are pushing thrill coasters and will likely be drawing a lot of UNI guests away. Add to that what WDW does. The Igor and Igoratrons, I feel, are finally waking up and will be willing to spend the money in the next 5 years +. Igor's next job will largely be based on what Disney is doing and how successful they various divisions are. I think Shanghai is gong to be a big problem, as demonstrated by Igor and the Igoratrons being told they were not welcome at the Shanghai park a month or so ago.

It will prove interesting to see what WDW does in Hollywood Studios!

@disneysource, Disney isn't reacting to anything except their own weakening attendance at DHS. Universal's part goes as far as proving that these sort of expansions work, but this isn't Disney's attempt to crush a rebellion or something.

I'd also point out that nothing you've predicated yet has been verified. You've said money is going to DHS, but everything else you've said is either not proven or never going to happen in a million years. I could've told you something was happening at DHS, but that still wouldn't have made me source.

I feel like that's a pretty thought provoking point. Actually one of the most interesting in a while. Basically the rest of the Orlando market has been stagnate. From WDW to Sea World they've not been on the offensive. Universal has been pushing boundaries and building quickly. With a resurgent WDW, Sea World, and Busch Gardens does Universal stand in danger?

I don't think so. Maybe a few years ago, but not today. Universal has been investing in hotels and creating a resort experience. That makes Universal even more of a long term player.

Don't fret on Shanghai yet, I think it will turn out well financially. I'm not sure about the brand.

It's till conjecture and suppositions...

They have alot to prove on this front.

If its a "coming 2021" proposition...I'd rather they don't bother, frankly

Sounds like they are turning the Studios more into the Paris version of the Studios.

If that's true it's a huge upgrade over what they currently have. It's so bad that the owners of Legoland probably laugh at it.

Nah, they're going much farther with this expansion. Walt Disney Studios is still largely a broken theme park. A better comparison would be DCA, which is now being fully built out.

Muppets is supposed to be safe with any expansion. It seems that by the time anything happens I'll be retired. I haven't even started a career yet I'm 17...

Are you really 17? This is the 2nd reference I've seen to you being young recently but I just always assumed you were an adult due to how in the know you seemed to be.

And what has been said by many is that the redo of DHS will make DCA 2.0 look like a simple refurb.

I hope so - I have just come back from Paris and whilst their Studios is better than the current Hollywood Studios it is still a bit "cheap" feeling.

They could make the Florida Studios a really great park - for example keep the Sunset Blv as is then add immersive lands based on Star Wars, Cars and Toy Story plus maybe a land based on Disney Animation in general (One Man's Dream and perhaps attractions along the lines of Paris's Cinemagique and Animagique)
