Changes to DHS and Epcot

I don't know much about Epcot but I have heard and read that what that says about DHS is true.

Just saw this article about the speculated changes at DHS: http://thisisinfamous.com/3-billion...overhaul-disneys-hollywood-studios-exclusive/

Most interesting is that it claims the whole park is being gutted except for GMR, ToT, RRC and TSM... Does anyone know if this has a truth to it? Also are any other sources to back up the rumor of replacing Illuminations and Figment?
This was being discussed in the news thread. The whole park basically will be gutted. The 3 billion budget is the one thing that is close. Illuminations is supposed to eventually get updated but not anytime soon. Figment rumors have been picking up storm because of inside out. Indiana jones rumor in this article is very unlikely.

Yeah, apparently RoE is off the table for the next little while. That Epcot money is going to the pavilions. Which is good and bad I suppose. While Martin was more open to an Indiana Jones, Spirit says absolutely not.

So if both JH is right, and this random article is right (20% Chance in my opinion) We'll be getting a variant of Test Track in Radiator Springs Racers, and a variant of Dinosaur in Indiana Jones. Hmm...

I do believe that RSRs could happen, but two attractions like this? Seems dubious doesn't it?

But why not? Yes, they use the same ride technology, but the experiences are very different. How many omnimover rides are there? How many roller coasters are there. I'd be really peeved if they had stopped making coaster rides after S M.

I'm sympathetic to this 100%! I recently wrote:
I tend to think of ride systems as what a movie, TV show, or a book is. Just the way to tell a story. Just because you have two movies doesn't mean they're the same thing. There have been thousands of movies. In the same way you can build tons of different boat rides but have them be different. I think looking merely at the ride system and labeling the same thing isn't the right call.
It's really just an art medium. That would be like saying the excellent Fantasyland over Disneyland shouldn't exist because the same ride system is applied several times. Ridiculous.

However, this DHS expansion is all about differentiating itself from its peers, and creating unique draws. Slamming Epcot and DAK, two theme parks that are lacking enough attractions, with better versions of two of their big ticket attractions would be extremely detrimental. Keeping these attractions unique on a park by park basis for these 3 is more critical than say a boat ride. I could see them doing one or the other, but both does seem dubious. I personally have been saying since February that we'd get a version of RSRs, I like the idea. Both, it just seems like a Fanboy's dream.

The current Illuminations isn't that great imo, I miss the original version. I think a change is overdue for Epcot's night time show, WoC type show would be a great idea for the lagoon.
I wouldn't be so harsh on my old favorite RoE. With that said, it's dated. Having seen what they can do with the shows like WoC, Disneyland Forever, and Parc Disneyland's latest spectacular, it needs to be refreshed. 1999 is not cutting edge anymore, and the tools from amazing fountains, powerful pyrotechnics, and awesome projection technologies make it even more of a sore thumb.

The compelling story and theme of Illuminations is thoughtful and inspirational, and fits beautifully into the World Showcase. So thematically perfect. Not to mention that excellent sound track. Sadly it's no longer up to today's standards. It's ready to be retired.

Speaking of doing a WoC style show, there are several issues with that. Remember that WoC projection style is flat, and if you're out of the field of view it suffers dramatically. Whereas Illuminations is completely viewable from any direction. WoC Projection works well in DCA were there's a large accessible path to exit from, but World Showcase is designed for people to linger. The shops, dining, and nightlife are large revenue sources. If everyone had to congregate to one area of World Showcase Lagoon they'd be drawn away from all those establishments. A money loosing proposition. Not to mention all the infrastructure and implementation issues. Also there's no backdrop like California Screamin', Mickey's Fun Wheel, or Everest.

I think RoE's successor will be a fire works show, with barges.

The soundtrack of ROE is about as good as it gets,it's the main reason I've seen it about 100-150 times without getting tired of it.I know at some point it has to get replaced but the thought of a new show coming in that I won't enjoy as much is a little scary seeing how often I'm used to finishing my days at Epcot.Fantasmic for example,I can't see more than maybe twice a year,it's too long and get boring with all the water screens. As far as the idea of gutting all of DHS except for GMR,RnRc,ToT and TSMM I'm totally fine with,I've actually been saying for awhile that that's pretty much what the park needs, way too many old attractions whose time has come and gone.I would like the Muppets to still have a presence with a new movie or attraction,I have always enjoyed their 3D movie but it has been there forever so if it has to go I understand, but keep the Muppets around. Also make sure the Osborne Lights stick around,if the Streets of America end up being used for a new area I think they should consider having a new area of the park that would work for the lights,if they have to find a temporary home for a year or two in another park or even DTD then go ahead but they need to make sure this presentation sticks around. There's been rumors swirling of changing the entrances/exits of DHS and maybe even increasing the size of the park,I know there's not a huge amount of empty space surrounding the park but if done right they could definitely increase the size at least some and given the size of this rumored expansion they might have to.

I didn't think the RSR-like ride would be the same as the one at DCA. If it is, that would be awesome. RSR blows away TT. However, it sounded like it would be indoors. I'm not sure how that would work.

Well think of it this way. Small world, and teacups at WDW are covered or indoors because of Florida weather. I would think maybe the storyline of the WDW version changes a little bit because it's only indoors. That is of course if it happens.

It should be a pretty simple transition to make it an indoors experience entirely. The opening scene would have to be cut where you're driving towards the waterfall and your hear the music. Skip that part and head straight into the opening scene where you're avoiding the Sheriff. Simple enough, then after heading through the town as usual you get to either the paint store or Luigi's. Still usual. Directly after those scenes you drive up next to another car at the start of the race, and usually you speed out onto the outside portion of the track. This is similar to Test Track where there's the opening scenes indoors and you transition outside. Instead of going outside, imagine the race scene entirely indoors. That's how they'd have to do it if they don't want to change the story. I'm just trying to imagine the massive show building that will hold those long sections of track. It doesn't seem reasonable. I'm not sure which one is cheaper, building a massive show building capable of holding that immense ride, or the rockwork environment to support it. I imagine the show building, but it will still be expensive.

Anyway, I think they could spice up the race scenes with projections on either side of the car as it races along. So instead of actually going through those beautiful environments, you'll be driving along projections of those beautiful environments. Lower quality but whatever.

The thing that doesn't make sense about the "we can't do Cars Land because of the Florida weather," is the fact Japan was getting pitched Cars Land too. Why the heck can Japan have RSRs and we can't? I think it's more likely a way to save money on rockwork instead.

. Exactly. There's other stories to tell within the world of Cars. Heck, I'd love to see tomorrowland speedway rethemed to Cars.
Nah, Cars in Tomorrowland? Nope. I would point out that RSRs is a great attraction, and definitely worth a DHS addition.

In a way it's a trade, DHS gets RSRs and DCA (supposedly) gets a RnR. Works well for me.
