Hi everyone!,

I'm a reasonably new member to the DisBoards, but I've been lurking for a couple of years. I thought it was about time I joined, as we're just starting to plan our June 2016 Wishes wedding. I'm actually posting this introduction from Florida! We're here for a friend of ours wedding (not a DFTW), and having an amazing time! I'm going to keep this first post quite short, with links to important updates as we go. Feel free to ask as many questions as you like, as I've been at this dream planning lark for a while already!

Welcome!! We have the same ceremony and DP venues, so I'm especially excited to follow along with your planning. :goodvibes

So, without further ado...

About us
Jon and I are from the UK, but both love Disney, and both have friends in the Orlando area.

We met in 2008, through his housemate, who was a friend of mine. I went round his house a couple of times, met Jon, and we became inseparable within a week. We moved in together 6 months later, and have since moved house 3 more times for various reasons. We are now living in a town called Bristol, in the South West of England, with our two lumps of fluff Cassie and Terra.

In November 2010, Jon was amazing enough to let me run away for a year and join Disney's Cultural Representative Program, where I worked at the UK fish and Chip shop, and in the Rose & Crown restaurant.

We became a long distance couple, but messaged each other every day in some form or another. Skype became a very common thing for us, and Whatsapp is one of the best messaging apps I've ever known! He came to visit me 3 times - once in January for a week, again across our anniversary in June for three weeks, and lastly in November 2011 for 10 days right at the end if my program, and we then flew home together. This was my first trip out of Europe, and my first time to WDW (although I'd been to Paris before), and I was in love. With Disney, with Florida, with the locals I'd met while here... everything. It was during the second trip that Jon planned the engagement, with the help of my flatmate. We were to have dinner at Cinderella's Royal Table, which I'd booked for our anniversary, but he got in touch with them to add on their engagement package. I was sort of expecting it, but it still took me by surprise, and I could barely say yes - I just nodded lots to start with!!

After the engagement, all my friends kept asking if we would have a Disney wedding. I kept saying no, that we'd had the Disney engagement, but I wanted a traditional English wedding. After I got home from the CRP, we started going to wedding fairs, and looking at venues. I browsed various wedding websites, and started my dream wedding Pinterest boards! We had a bit of a rough patch financially, so actual planning never got started. I began looking at Disney's wedding blog purely for inspiration, and to dream. But the more I looked, the more I realised that none of the UK venues were quite right for me. One day I turned to Jon and said "I'm sorry, but I think I want a Disney wedding!" His response... "I wondered how long it would take you to realise that!" He was totally on board! A few people have asked if he's been ok when I've told them we're getting married at Disney, and I just have to point out that he visited Disney on his own before we were even together!

Welcome!! We have the same ceremony and DP venues, so I'm especially excited to follow along with your planning. :goodvibes

We haven't chosen a reception site yet (details on that to follow), so we might end up being fully identical! Yours is way sooner though! Exciting!

Awwww . . . what a great story! I'm excited to follow along! Happy planning. :)

Thank you so much! I'm excited to finally start actual planning rather than just dreaming!

Hi, welcome! I'm excited to follow along with your planning! You sound a lot like me... my fiance wasn't thinking "will she want a Disney wedding," but more like "WHEN will she realize that she really wants a Disney wedding." :rotfl:

Our bridal party

I always knew that wanted an even number of bridesmaids, mainly for photographic reasons. Due to our low guest count (around 20), this means 2 bridesmaids and groomsman each. I don't count the flower girl, as she's a child, and can stand slightly in front for photos! I always knew I wanted adult bridesmaids though.

My maid of honour was a no brainer really... Tess has been my friend a little longer than I've been with Jon, and even though she now lives on the other side of the UK, she still means everything to me. We can go months without seeing each other, but it's like no time has passed when we do, and she was one of the few people who actually came to visit me when I worked at WDW.

My second bridesmaid was a bit trickier, as I don't have very many female friends. However, Jon has two nieces who are now 21 and 15. I've met them a few times (they live in Scotland), and get on really well with the older niece, Emilie. In fact, the very first time I met them (before we were engaged) I was wearing a bright orange blouse, which is Emilie's favourite colour, and she declared that we needed to get married! She was thrilled when I told her that we were going for a Disney wedding, and even more thrilled when I asked her to be a bridesmaid! (Sorry, I don't actually have a picture of us!)

My flower girl was always an obvious choice as well, however we're not sure if she can actually make it out to Florida yet. My niece, Emily, will be 10 next summer, but my brother and her mum are separated. I'd love for her to be able to come to the wedding with my brother, but he's not even sure he can afford to come himself! And then there's the major issue of her mother letting him take her out of the country. Emily's mum is a massive fan of Disney herself, and gets quite jealous of the fun things my brother does with his daughter. It's all a little bit awkward, but I have my fingers crossed that Tinkerbell might sprinkle some pixie dust on the situation for me. (picture to follow)

Jon's best man... this one is also rather amusing! He has a couple of friends who would both make amazing best men. His first choice is Dom who he's been friends with since they were 10. Jon was Dom's best man at his wedding, and we'd love for him to be there. Again, however, money might be an issue, especially as Dom and his wife have 4 kids. If Dom can't make it to Florida, Jon's second choice is Chris. Again, Jon was his best man at Chris's DCL wedding, and they've known each other since they were 14. Chris married an American, Lenore, and has been living in Orlando since they were married (before Jon and I got together). Even If Dom can make it, Chris and Lenore are still invited to the wedding!

Jon's groomsman depends on his best man. If Dom comes, and is best man, then Chris will be a groomsman. If Dom can't, and Chris is best man, then my brother will be his groomsman. If my brother is tight on money, we'll help him out, even if he can't bring his daughter to be my flower girl.

The officiant was another quite easy choice. I made friends with a few locals when I was working in Florida, and I'm still in touch with them. One in particular is ordained with the Universal Life Church, and has officiated a couple of weddings in the past. Jon has met him, and we all get on really well. we're confidant that he'll provide just enough laughter and seriousness, and he's got just the right kind of personality for us (being a friend helps with that!)

If our budget allows a slightly higher guest count (closer to 30) then we may go to 4 each, as I have some other close friends I'd love to be Bridesmaids, but for now, these are the people we've asked.

Hey everyone!

So, there's been a minor update on venues since my last post, but it sits quite nicely in the next section I wanted to write about anyways. I'll explain as we go... (pre-warning, this one is loooooooong! I'm sorry, I like to talk!)

Deciding on Specifics

Floral/Colour Scheme
Even before I realised I wanted a Disney Wedding, I'd starting getting ideas about colours. Jon and I had toyed around with various different times of year and styles for our wedding, but we kept coming back to a summer wedding on our anniversary - June 2nd. This meant that summer colours were needed, and I very quickly remembered a set of tealights I bought from a UK company called PartyLite before Jon and I got together. They were only sold that one summer, and were a set of sorbet based candles that looked like scoops of icecream! I only bougt the tealight versions, but the colors stuck with me!

Once I started looking at Disney I saw that they had done very similar colour schemes in the past, both at weddings and by their events team, giving me more confidence that the three colours worked together. Of course, by the time I realised I wanted a Disney wedding, I had no issues knowing they could pull this off for us! However, I still had very little idea on which types of flowers I might want in my bouquet and other arrangements. This is actually something that became a lot clearer leading up to mother's day in March.

The first picture above is from Disney's event team. The second picture is the flowers I bought for my mum on mother's day. I've always loved the simplicity of gerbera daisies, and knew I wanted them somewhere, but this mix of pink gerberas, orange roses and small yellow daisy-like flowers (I've no idea what they actually are!!) just looks gorgeous to me! I'll have them much more structured and rounded for my bouquet, with less yellow and more pink and orange. I would also very much like a couple of hidden mickey cristals as well!
For my bridesmaids, I want smaller versions of my bouquet, but very similar. I'm planning on asking Emilie if she knows her mother's favourite flower (or possibly asking Frank, her father), and putting a single stem of that into her bouquet. Caroline (Jon's sister, and Emilie's mother) passed away before I met Jon, and i think this would be a really nice way of honouring her memory. I may even do it as a surprise for Emilie!

I'll talk about my ideas for other decorations (including centre pieces) in another post, as I have plenty of ideas! Of course, whether my wedding planner and floral planner can pull these visions off will be a whole other story!

Venues
Once I had finally realised I wanted a Disney wedding, I started looking a lot closer at the different venues available. At this time, we were still in the old pricing structure, when dessert parties were included in the minimums. I immediately fell in love with the idea of a dessert party at UK Lochside, as it's so close to my beloved Rose & Crown. Much as I prefer Wishes as a show (I'm a true Disney dreamer!), Illuminations means more to me, and it was hearing the Illuminations music for the first time in two years after the end of my CRP that made me tear up! So, even when they announced the change in pricing structure, I knew we had to have our dessert party, even if it meant cutting the guest list from nearer 30 to nearer 20.

Initially, I wanted our cermony at the Yacht Club Gazebo. I never had any love for the Wedding Pavillion, and I've always thought that smaller groups look a little bit lost inside it! Personal opinion, but that's how I feel! When I showed pictures of the gazebo to Jon he wasn't so keen. He doesn't get overly vocal about much to do with the wedding, trusting in my vision to make things gorgeous (I know he'll have more to say when it comes to the food!) but when he really doesn't like something he puts his foot down. This was the case with the Gazebo. He was very much against the idea of people looking out their hotel windows/balconies onto our celebration, and potentially appearing on their balcony, naked, in our photos! I conceeded, this was a fair point, and decided to see what he thought of Sea Breeze Point. Thankfully, he liked it, and it was always a close second place for me, so we had our cermony venue!

Our reception venue has always been the trickiest to pin down, and this is where the most recent update comes in. With SBP and UKL on either side, I never wanted to leave the Epcot resort area for our reception. I'd looked at various photos online (@lurkyloo, your website is awesome for this!), and read the passporter book many times, and couldn't decide on any of the speciality venues. The Attic wasn't the feel we wanted, Atlantic Dance Hall too big, Ariel's too fishy (we're not fish themed). I was reluctant to head inside a park due to the extra venue fees incurred. And so, in my head, we were looking at a ballroom with decorations. (Side note - I adore the tulle twinkle canopies they put up in the ballrooms!) None of the Yacht Club ballrooms were a suitable size, so it came down to either St James Rooms or Marvin Garden's at the Boardwalk. Both have patios suitable for a cocktail hour, both were a good size for tables and for dancing. It seemed right. So, in Feb 2014, when Jon and I were holidaying to Disney (for the first time since i stopped being a CM in Nov 2011!), we spent one afternoon nosying around SBP and the Boardwalk Ballrooms. Jon has the nerve to just walk in and pretend he's meant to be anywhere... I followed meekly!

St James Room and Patio. Note the drinks cans lying around the edge of the room... there was a convention in town, but thankfully not in the convention centre at this time! Having checked our other photos, there was an Arbys sign in the lobby!

Two thirds of Marvin Gardens, in the process of being set up for a dinner presentation! The last picture is the little area in the corridor that looks out onto the patio.

My profile picture is from SBP from the same day. Jon immediately didn't like St James... he said the patio looked like someone's yard! Lol! But he didn't have a lot to say about Marvin Gardens. It was ok! That was Feb '14. Fast forward to March '15, and I contact DFTW. We already knew we had a trip planned for early April, for a friends (non-Disney) wedding, and as such wanted to schedule a site visit. Stacey emailed back with various places, and to organise a phone call. She also sent a bunch of pictures through. These pictures included the Napa Room at California Grill, Living Seas Salon and The American Adventure Parlour and Dining Room among others. Jon and I looked at these together, and he fell in love with Napa room! *headdesk* And so, our site visit was to include Napa Room, Living Seas, and the American Adventure.

Our site visit went well, and Stacey was lovely. My conclusions were vastly different to Jon's. After seeing them all (and we had another look at Marvin Gardens too!), his order of preference was: 1)Living Seas, 2)Napa Room, 3)American Adventure, 4)Marvin Gardens. This was a problem because I could barely even order them by preference of the actual locations! My order was based on more practical things... Napa Room was too far away to still do the Illuminations Dessert Party. Living Seas F&B minimums were crazy high (although I could see a group our size working in that venue quite well). Marvin Gardens and American Adventure both require a fair bit of decoration - MG to make it pretty, AA to de-americanize it (we are Brits after all!). My choice was between MG and AA. When I explained this to Jon he pointed out that he liked all the venues and would be happy anywhere, he just wanted me to be happy. However, if it was between those two, it had to be AA as he really didn't see anything special about a ballroom!

And so (I finally get to my point), we will be trying to book the American Adventure Dining Room and Parlour for our reception!

Next thing to decide will be timings!

Photographer
Last quick point on the one thing that is actually booked - our photographer. Photos are the most important thing to us. They are the one thing that will last for the whole world to see after you've fallen asleep on that magical day. We were always prepared to spend any proportion of our budget on the right photographer.

I sat Jon down one day (he needs pushing into things sometimes), having found various local Orlando photographers' websites, and we went through their galleries. This included all the usuals... Roots, Cricket, David Arnot, Randy Chapman... along with a few others I can't remember now. I didn't tell him prices, and I didn't tell him my favourites (I had two - Roots and Misty Miotto). He picked two aswell, one of which was the same as mine. And so, we booked Misty Miotto for our wedding and for an engagement shoot. We had the engagement shoot on the trip we just took, and we are both really happy we made the right choice from a personality point of view. Misty is lovely, if a bit bossy, but for us that's good! It was the right level of guidance to get the best possible pictures, and I can't wait to get them through and share with you all!!!

I think that's plenty of waffling for now. Next time I'll try and talk a bit more about particular features I have in mind, like centre pieces, napkins, transportation and my hatred for chair covers!
Thank you all for following!

Vikki

P.S. Lurkyloo, I have more pictures from our nosey round the Boardwalk convention centre and Sea Breeze Point if you want them. You would be welcome to add them to your website. DFTW also sent me loads of more up to date AAP&DR pictures, which I'm happy to send you, but I don't know the logistics of you using them!

Sure thing—thanks! I'll PM you my email address!

Sorry I haven't posted in a little while, but there's not been a lot of updates really. I've also been picking up loads of extra hours at work, and haven't really been keeping up to date with the DisBoards!

We're currently in that limbo stage of waiting to sign our contract with Disney, once they've confirmed the date and venues etc. We're still waiting for our engagement pictures back from Misty, but they were done over spring break, so I appreciate she probably had a fair few weddings over that weekend too.

We've worked out what we want to do for our save the dates and invitations (they'll basically be identical), but I don't want to give the game away until we've actually started designing them a bit more. Jon thinks he should be able to do it himself, which will certainly save us some money!

We are also in discussions with a venue here in the UK for a party once we all get home. We've picked a date, Saturday July 2nd, it's just a case of finalising when we have access to the hall for set up now. It will be one exact month since our wedding day, so the date seemed rather appropriate. It does unfortunately mean we probably won't have our wedding photos back to show off, but I didn't want to leave it too long afterwards.

I've found my perfect dress for my bridesmaids, and it comes in the right colour and sizes, I just need to see what they think of it. It's not too expensive ether, so that's a bonus. I should hopefully be able to get them both to Bristol some time this summer, which would be great, as I can then take them shopping for both their dresses and mine. Annoyingly, my mum will be away for nearly 4 weeks on holiday, so she might end up missing out. Then again, she's against the idea of us getting married in Florida anyway.

The only big dilemma we've really had has been about timings for the day... whether we have a midday or 2:30pm ceremony. Midday will work out cheaper for food and drink, as it will count as lunch reception, but I will want to pa for the extra hour, so no one would be stranded between reception and dessert party. The 2:30pm would be right in the heat of the day (not that it makes a huge amount of difference in Florida summers!), which is a consideration with British guests. It will also be more expensive, being a dinner reception, and we wouldn't get the full 5 hours due to leaving for the dessert party. I'm leaning towards the midday ceremony, but I'm still not 100% certain. I'll let you know once I make a decision!

That's all really for now. I'm sure there's plenty more still to tell you about our prospective plans, but i'll get to them eventually!

Exciting things have been happening!! (So sorry this is such a text heavy post, I wish I had some photos for you)

Disney related stuff
Firstly, we've signed our Letter of Agreement with Disney! The money isn't showing as having been paid on the credit card yet, however the available balance is roughly $4000 (or around about £2500 as it actually is) less than what the current statement shows!
Stacey has e-mailed saying thank you, that she has signed it, her boss will sign it soon, and that we're to expect a small gift in the post from her in a few weeks! I do like gifts, so that's always exciting (although I'm sure all you past DFTW brides know exactly what I'll be getting). Of course, to have a letter of agreement, that did mean we had to decide on times once and for all. I couldn't get past the fact that American weddings just feel too short for me, and we're asking people to spend all this money to come to Florida for us, so it only felt right to go with the longer day option. So, our timings are now set in stone as:
Weeding Ceremony. Sea Breeze Point. 11:30am-1:00pm (ceremony at 12:00)
Wedding Pre-Reception/Reception American Adventure Parlour 1:30pm-7:30pm
Dessert Party. UK Lochside. 8:00pm-9:30pm

This means we have an extra fee for the extended reception, but it also means we'll have some more time to enjoy the day. For eg, after the ceremony, I want plenty of pictures with everyone, not just at SBP, but also on the Boardwalk Lawn and other places in the area. Then most of the guests will head off to Epcot, while Jon and I, and maybe the bridal party, get more Boardwalk pictures. And then we'll all join them at the Pre-Reception. The other thing that influenced the decision was weather. It's more likely to rain at 2:30pm than at 12:00pm. And it will be a couple of degrees cooler. I know, in Florida, that 2 Celsius is not a huge amount, but to most of our family, they'll appreciate even the tiniest help with the heat!!!

Non-Disney related stuff
So, the venue we *wanted* for our UK party came back and said they had another booking for our date. There was potential it might have been cancelled, but that didn't happen. I was rather bummed out for a few days, and my internet searching was finding me nothing. Either the places were too expensive, insisted on in-house catering, or were nothing special venue wise (meaning I couldn't make my vision work). Then one of my friends suggested the high school sports grounds. There's about 3 different schools' sports centres not too far from where we live, that sometimes hire their halls out for private functions. So I looked into them, found one that seemed like it would work, and dragged Jon over there to take a look. It's not got the character that the first venue had, but it's a lovely place with plenty of parking (other venue had none), and I can see my vision working very well there. It's also dirt cheap at £450, which includes a late licence to 1am, and holds more people than the other venue! So, we've gone ahead and booked it! Same date, July 2nd, exactly one month after our wedding date. Unfortunately, there's basically no pictures online, as events is not the primary function of this place. We've not yet decided on self catering, using their in-house caterer, or hiring and external one, but all three are options to consider.

Photos
The last exciting point is that we have our engagement photos back! Ok, we actually got them at the beginning of June, and we've been fawning over them ever since. Misty apologised for taking so long, but it sounds like they had a hellish couple of months. I'd love to put some here, but I'd never be able to choose just one or two, so I suggest you all go and look at my Facebook albumhere for the 50 or so best ones! Seriously, we got 558 photos from just two and a half hours of photography... It scares me how many we'll get after 8 hours on the wedding day!!

That's all for now. I doubt anyone is actually reading this, but it's nice to keep a track and look back on my memories afterwards, so this is as much for me as for you.

Vikki

Congratulations on getting everything officially on the books! :) Your engagement pictures came out great. I especially like the ones where you are wearing the floral dress!

Congrats on getting everything officially booked! Your engagement pictures are lovely. Can't wait to see more :)

Yay for having things set! That's so exciting! :yay:
Pretty much my reaction! :yay:

Congratulations on getting everything officially on the books! :) Your engagement pictures came out great. I especially like the ones where you are wearing the floral dress!
Thank you! The dress was actually bought to attend another Friend's wedding (the main reason we took the trip to FL), but then we realised it would be perfect for the photo shoot too! Talk about two birds, one stone!

Congrats on getting everything officially booked! Your engagement pictures are lovely. Can't wait to see more :)
Thank you so much! Trust me when I say they were just the tip of what we were sent. I can't wait to work with Misty on the day itself!

Congrats and just love your colors! Bright and cheery!
I'm so glad you think so. They always just make me think of the sun shine and of summer! Perfect for Florida weather!

There's been lots of little things happening this past week or so.

Firstly, yesterday was the 11 month mark to when we wanted to check into a Boardwalk villa, so I started scoping out DVC point rental people at the start of the week, and this evening I can confirm it...
19175195518_ae19586b30_z.jpg

We have a reservation for a one-bedroom villa at the Boardwalk for the night before, the night of and the night after our wedding!!! Exciting much! This will be the first time either of us have stayed in a villa! Technically, it will the third time we'll have stayed deluxe. So far, we've had one night at the Beach Club, but we opted for our free night at the Grand Floridian to be our last non-married night together. We're going to be resort hopping like crazy on this trip!!!

Second exciting thing.
I emailed both Misty Miotto and Patricia LeJeune this week about confirming our date, and both have responded saying all is well! Misty was originally booked for a different date, so I was quite worried about changing the date with her, but it's all fine. Randy LeJeune will be sorting out a contact for me in due course, but has at least pencilled me in for June 2nd.

Third exciting thing.
We paid the deposit on our at-home party venue, and I bought a couple of scraps of fabric to start on my bunting making! I'll try and keep a tally of how many triangles I've made on each post! I'll also be asking friends and family to make bunting, so when I look at it I'll be reminded of everyone we love!

Fourth exciting thing.
I suddenly had a panic that time was running out for Wedding dress shopping, specially as I only get one day off each weekend, and both my bridesmaids live miles away. So last Saturday I messaged my MOH (lives in Essex, can only visit at weekends as she's run out of annual leave this year), and she suggested August 8th. This worked for me, and also happens to be the weekend of Bristol Balloon Fiesta, so we can go and celebrate at that in the evening. Then I emailed my mum (who's currently on holiday in Norway) to see if she'd be up for visiting that weekend too, and coming to the balloon fiesta. The answer was yes, if we can find a B&B for them to stay overnight in. I didn't bother messaging my other bridesmaid (Jon's niece), as she lives in Scotland and I don't expect her to visit just for a weekend. I knew she'd be down later in the year (October time), and I was going to go bridesmaid dress shopping with her then. However, yesterday evening I got a message from her asking if the weekend of August 8th worked for a visit! She's flying down just for me! I'd never in a million years ask her to do that, but I'm so excited that she's willing to!
So, today, I started booking a couple of appointments at bridal stores. I've tried to find a couple of stores that sell both bride's, and bridesmaids' dresses, so we can take a look at both. Although I'll mostly be hunting for my dress, as it will take that much longer to come in.

That's all for now! Sorry again for a very text heavy post.

That's a lot of exciting things and a lot of good progress made in planning! :thumbsup2 I'm glad you were able to get your date confirmed with Misty and Patricia!
