SW Credit Card with the 50,000 credits

This offer was great for me. I was able to get 2 round trip tickets to Seattle for my upcoming DCL Alaska cruise. Beat the $749 per ticket price to fly into Vancouver! I love Southwest.

I did it last month, and they only gave me 10,000 points. Sent an email today asking where the other 40,000 were. Still waiting for a reply.

Great promotion! My wife and I both got one (2 x 50,000 pts), and were able to get 8 round-trip tickets for our next two trips.

How long does it take to apply and then get the points? And then how long do You have to use the points? We would like to have points to use July 2016 and I am wondering when we should apply for a card. TIA

I had all my points within 2 weeks of applying. But I made the qualifying purchase the day the card arrived.

Do the points expire?

You need to have EARNING activity in your SW rapid rewards account within 24 months or the points expire. Withdrawals from the account do not renew the the 24 month window. If you're not earning points via flying, a small purchase with ANY credit card going through the SW Rapid Rewards Shopping portal will give you the required earning activity.

Your bonus points will be credited a couple days after your statement closes for the period in which you acheived the required spend. Be aware that if you acheive the required spend too close to your statement close date that there's a good chance you won't see the bonus points credited until the close of the following statement. This is extremely important if one is trying to time purchases to earn 110,000 points during a calendar year for companion pass purposes.

Friendly advice2. What is the time frame to earn the 110,000 points? And do you remember how much you need to spend to earn it? Is there a different amount for different people?

The requirements are standard for all people. You have to earn the 110,000 points during a single calendar year to achieve a companion pass. Most people do this by getting both a SW Plus and Premier credit card when the 50,000 point promotion is offered. When meeting the required $2,000 spend for each card you'll have earned 104,000 points. The remaining 6,000 points can be earned via spend (manufactured or actual), shopping bonus points, and/or flights, car rentals, or hotel stays booked via SW. The companion pass is active for the remainder of the calendar year in which it's earned and for the entire following calendar year. Obviously the earlier in the calendar year you can earn the pass is optimum, particularly if you have planned flights.

I applied for both cards in January and used them to pay my property taxes and DVC dues. With the annual fees and "convenience fee" for paying the taxes, I ended up spending about $450 for 110,000 points and the companion pass which was valid for almost 23 months.

You need to earn the 110,000 points in a calendar year. It resets to zero each January 1st. You earn points thru flights, credit card purchases, and partner rewards such as hotels or car rentals which earn you 600 points for each rental. Also, look out for promotions as SW will double or even quadruple certain points at certain times. The 110,000 point goal is the same for everyone.
Hope this helps.
