I need a little help. My DD is entering pre-k this year and has to wear a uniform. We have to purchase bottoms in khaki, black, or navy (they don't have a designated provider just plain pants/skirts/shorts/skorts. I have been checking out old navy and dickies brand and I have a slight concern, they all have button waists. I don't know about your 4 yr old, but mine has trouble with buttons. Has anyone found any with an elastic waist anywhere or will I be making my own? How did your young one deal with button pants? I find the skort with a side zip to be the worst idea.

BTW ebates is 6% back on old navy right now and they have a coupon today that is good on anything (15%).

TIA!

before you start making your own be sure that the elastic waist will be allowed most that I know are the button or snap only

I agree to check to be sure they do not have to have a waist band with button or snap. Here, pre-K and maybe kindergarten does not. Others do and shirt tail much be tucked in. A huge pain for preschoolers and their teachers. If not, look beyond typical "uniform" styles. Children's place, Lands End, Gymboree and a ton of other places will have basic, solid shorts and pants for kids with elastic waist. Most school relax the rules for the really little ones.

When my daughter was that age and had to wear a uniform, we bought the elastic waist skirts from target. the waistband was flat across the front and elastic in the back. Her school allowed elastic waists in pre-k and kindergarten, but you may check with your daughter's school first. She didn't wear pants at all that year because she didn't have the button thing down yet and all of the pants we looked at were really hard to button, even for me! We just put leggings under the skirts in the winter (that was allowed at her school.) Good luck!

My fkids don't wear uniforms but I can tell you that Carters has pants with the elastic waists and that store goes all the way up to size 7. My oldest son is on the spectrum so buttons was a HUGE problem for us, specially when he had to wear "nice" clothes. He's better now about buttons now, but when he was that age forget about it, lol. I would check out Carters. I know Old Navy doesn't sell pants with elastic in them because I have looked there. Good luck in your search!

Thanks for pointing me in the correct direction. The uniform is fairly lax for little ones. I know the skirts with leggings will be what her choice will be most of the time. Does anyone know, does the Circo run small/large? Sizing is so crazy across brands. Right now she has to buy a girls size in shirts because todder it too short for her long torso, but she has no problem with 5T bottoms from old navy.

As much as I like the idea of a quick choice for what to wear in the morning, I am a little sad to be sending her out in "big kid" clothes.

DS8 wears Old Navy uniform pants. They're not elastic waist and although the front looks like there's a button over the zipper, it's actually one of those hook things on the inside - just looks like a button from the outside.

My son was in Pre-K this year, and after going through 6 pairs of Old Navy pants (he destroyed the knees). I started buying Lands End Iron Knee pants. They are amazing! And better yet, when my son still managed to destroy the knees (it took significantly longer than the Old Navy pants) I simply returned the pants for a full refund and got another pair, no questions asked. The Lands End pants have a button, but they also have the adjustable elastic waist on the inside, so my son was able to pull them off and on as though there was no button. Highly highly highly recommend the Lands End pants. Especially for those with boys that are hard on knees.

Our daughters wear uniforms. The uniform bottoms from Old Navy & Childrens Place have the adjustable bands inside. If you adjust the bands right, your kiddo should be able to pull them up & down with no problem, even the side zip skorts. I have noticed a lot of difference between brands in sizing. At first, we just bought a bunch to try & then returned what didn't fit. Good luck!

our son will be in 1st grade next year and has to wear a very specific uniform and we buy through a specific provider. However when he attended Montessori school for pk we had rules like you are describing. check but elastic waist was fine. I like ralph lauren's shorts with the elastic waist. they come in kakhi and navy and they look nice and are comfy.

I'm jealous you don't have to buy the embroderied stuff!

Agree with Target- elastic waist for skirts, skorts, and khaki pants!

I agree with PP's Target and Carter's as well. My DD now 7 til this day hates to wear jeans or anything with a snap or button. She says it "bothers her" (eye roll from mom) lol. But her uniform rules are a little laxed as well, I found pull on yoga style pant and soft knit elastic waist pants at Carter's and she loved them it had secure pockets and no bothersome button. When I find them I buy 6 in her size and then 6 in the next size up just in case there's a growth spurt and then I can't find them.

BTW, I have 2 4 year olds. They both have a few bottoms with buttons. If I buttoned their buttons in themorning they'd just come home with them unbuttoned later on. I just always made sure they were wearing a long shirt :)

Old navy kid pants have faux buttons - there is actually an easy hook inside, and with the adjustable waists, they are like pants with elastic. Most brands don't use real buttons in kids clothing.

Thanks all, I was able to get a variety of bottoms from Target online yesterday at buy one get one 50% off plus red card and free shipping. I got a few different sizes. For anyone looking, Lands End has a nice skort without a zipper in little girls sizes, but they didn't have a great code or anything yesterday so I will be watching for some sort of sale there. And for once I remembered to go through ebates everytime!

We have the choice of buying from the uniform store that the school uses (well have to get the plaid skirt from them) but all other things like pants and polo shirts I usually get else where. The best ones I've found have been at Target, Walmart , Izod and French Toast (on line). Gymboree sells uniforms but I find them expensive. The uniform place my daughter school uses is called Dennis Uniforms. I think they're based out of California if you want to check it out. I did get my daughter pants from them because they were all elastic.

Circo runs small.
Gymboree uniform pants had a snap and old navy had a slide (at least for boys)
Finally- I experimented with uniform polos- buying from many stores and seeing how they held up (faded, resisted stains, etc)
Gymboree polos were the winner (although not as soft). I usually look for sales and stack coupons, but they were definitely the nicest looking by the end of the year. Worth the few extra bucks over old navy for sure.

Gymboree has a uniform shop online. Although they have some available in stores at the beginning of the school year.

Just wanted to chime in again because I was at Costco yesterday and saw a whole table full of uniforms. Navy pants and shorts. White Polo shirts.
