Need ideas for Key Largo food item for themed Fourth

We travelled the Keys last fall - the most memorable thing we had on Largo was the coffee from Dunkin Donuts. Seriously - best. coffee. ever.!!

I just googled "key largo theme food" because I have no idea what that would be, and I saw lots of pictures of shrimp, oysters and key lime pie.

I would just bring some dish that I like an that I know other people will like. I'm definitely not in favor (for me at least) of trying a new dish when I need to bring it to share, I'm always worried that something new will not be a great recipe, and if I don't have time to experiment and tweak it, I won't be happy with it.

I agree with scoutie

A resturaunt in key largo-the Fish house has a fish matecumbe that is really good. It's a tomato, onion and caper topping.

Alton brown has a magi mahi ceviche style that is cooked on the grill that is really good.

We go down about once a month since we own a small rental property in key west. Probably can't make conch fritters since conch is not easy to come by. Key lime pie is your best bet but if this is a key west theme them there is probably going to be quite a few pies (have me thinking about blue heaven key lime pie). Basically anything fish will do. We don't do a ton of shrimp, more fresh fish.

I went with Key Lime Pie. Actually tasted the filling though it had eggs tastes really good. recipe calls for sour cream and powdered sugar frosting. Guess I will do in an hour or so unless anyone knows of better frosting
Also made clam dip, thanks for all the ideas

What I wouldn't do for some good Key Lime Pie. One of my favorites. I guess I need to host a Key Largo party! That's the ticket.

Did your store have any key limes?? That is what makes the pie. Please don't use the Persian limes. Pie will taste funny.

Got key lime juice. They told me key limes were not in season.
Whats the difference
Well as long as you don't use the regular limes. Key limes are very intense. We have a tree on our property in key west. As long as there are limes, wy wife will always make a pie. She tried the juice one time and it was not the same. We had a neighbor make one with Persian limes and it was gross. The juice will ge you by. When they are available by you, try making it with fresh key limes. Takes a lot of limes to make it but its totally worth it.

Most Key lime pie I've had has either been topped with meringue or whipped cream; I've never encountered one with any kind of sour cream topping on it.

Scungilli salad? Popular here, and they sell large cans at the grocery store (I think it's the same thing as conch).
