So, I'm in a family of all boys...:crazy2: which means sometimes (as the mom) I usually think of others and we eat at WDW places I know the whole family would enjoy and not just 1 person (aka me! :flower1:)

I made a comment the other night to my boys (16 and 14) and DH that they should be glad I've never made them eat at a Princess meal..and DH spoke up right away and said that next trip I get to go to whatever Princess meal I want and the DSs can get over it!

Easier said than done...

One of the draws for our family to WDW is dining - we have always gotten DxDP and enjoy all of the great places to eat and our kids have learned to love some very un-kid friendly foods there since I don't care what they order off the menu - like salmon, mussels and other fancier foods.

I know that CRT is the classic Princess meal but is the food worth using one of our precious meals? OR is there a better place we should go OR should I just skip the idea of a Princess meal and go somewhere else, like a new restaurant in the Springs area??

We don't go back until June 2016 - but I only have 165 days until ADRs can be booked!! :teeth:

THANKS!

Personally I think the food is mediocre at CRT, but the experience isn't bad!

Among the Princess Dining my favorite is Akershus in Norway at Epcot. Food there is served more family style, and I think there were 7 Princesses, plus Mary Poppins walking around to the tables, not including Belle who was taking photos before being seated. (Printed Belle photo was included with the meal.)

1900 Park Fare is a good alternative as well, but for Princesses you'd have to go at dinner (I think) and it's only buffet at dinner.

I am also a mom of just boys. We have done CRT in October and are doing it again this next trip. For us it is more about being able to eat inside of the castle. My husband was the same way when I said we didn't need to do it because they are boys.

My boys embraced it and had a great time! The food isn't something to rave about in my opinion, but the atmosphere is what I love most. Definitely a true Disney Princess feel.

I'm sure your boys will be the same :) Your family will have a great time whatever you decide!

I was once a boy of that age, they will like meeting and taking pics with the pretty girls whether they admit it or not. Couple that with going for breakfast and snagging one of the first ressie's on a non EMH day so you get the early park entry, it makes it worth it.

CRT is an experience for sure. It's been a very long time since I've been (returning this year) but it was soooo cool. Ate at Akershus last year in Norway and loved everything about it. The atmosphere, the food everything. The Belle we had at Akershus was out front taking photos as guests arrived and she was amazing. The best character on our last trip.

I'm a mom of 3 boys! I feel your pain. We haven't done princesses before either and I had 1900 park fare dinner with Cinderella and the Prince booked on our last trip and ended up canceling for T-Rex! ha!
This time however, I booked a breakfast at 1900 Park Fare on the day we leave, because mommy wants to see Alice in Wonderland and Mary Poppins!! I think my boys would definitely tolerate seeing princesses and would LOVE the castle for CRT, but I cannot for the life of me get a table there! We did Be Our Guest when it was just a soft opening and it was AMAZING. We try to do all different stuff every trip so we probably won't be at BOG (another ADR that's tough to get anyway)!

well, I was thinking/assuming I would do dinner instead of breakfast - but I never considered breakfast at CRT with the pre-park opening! We always do Crystal Palace, and this trip I was just thinking I would do it twice, but maybe I should do 1 and book CRT instead...

I guess I also assumed we'd do dinner b/c for 2 TS credits it seemed like a "better deal"..

hhmmmmmm.....

thank you ALL for your thoughts!

It's worth it just to eat in the castle. The princesses are awesome with guests. You get the random wedding proposal too.

I liked our view from our window seat. Other than that... I would go back if I had a daughter who wanted to go. The food was so mediocre. The service was some of the worst we've had. I had better food at Casey's later that day. I'd rather try Akershus or 1900.

I've done dinner at CRT three times. I seriously love it! My food has always been great. The service has always been very good and the princesses were awesome as well. I definitely think you should try it. Many people have said its not worth it but that's been said about literally everywhere lol.

OP, I adore your husband in an internet-reader-of-your-words way. Good for him. Keep him. :)

:) My son was 8 or 9 and was iffy on Jasmine (he's still not into the bare midriff thing yet...awkward since he's a dancer and the girls at conventions wear WAY less than Jasmine!), but then he met Ariel. He's also a redhead and she made him feel welcome. After she went away he had the reddest cheeks! It was adorable. And it's only going to get worse the closer in age he gets to the "friends of the princesses"...

OP, I cannot imagine using 2 TS credits for it. But that's because we're vegetarian and don't do the dining plan. The May menu on allears shows that they still have the gnocchi. That gnocchi was VERY tasty (though rather salty) and I would LOVE to have it again. I'm just not quite willing to pay THAT much (3 adults now, in terms of meals) to get gnocchi and veggies. And 2 TS credits would be painful, too. Unless it's free dining?

The last time I went to CRT, the food was a disappointment in comparison to the times during college I would go almost 1 or 2 times a semester....it was very sad to see what we got this past time, I even cancelled an upcoming res because it wasn't worth it for me....

I would say 1900 Park Fare is a great option, because the stepsisters will flip over them, and you can get your princess dining too!

We did lunch last November with my 2 boys (2 and 4yrs), and we loved it. The food was excellent that day, and I don't think anyone will ever forget Snow White leaving her lipstick kiss on my 2yr old's forehead :)

My girlfriend and I both agree that the food is of pretty average quality and nothing special but the atomospjer and the whole experience makes up for it a hundred times over. We also got a white chocolate slipper dessert that looked beautiful and was really romantic

Go. The experience is worth it for one time. The food is okay, and I didn't think breakfast was nearly enough food. I will keep going, as long as my princesses want me to take them, though. I would also recommend 1900 PF with the older boys....Annastacia nd Drizella can be quite amusing when the are presented with possible suitors, and their mother will get in on it as well....teh BEST character interaction I have had at any character meal (and I have done them all).

Go!
Coming from a 25-year old Marine, it's worth the experience even for families with boys, I love going there for the 'Disney' feel lol. I mean, what's more Disney than eating in the castle? The food isn't worth the price, at all. But the experience is, at least once.
