July 2015 Car Rental Code Watch...hoping there is not already one!

As soon as you posted this I checked for my dates and they were crazy cheap! Walked away for a moment, put my dates back in and the rates were high again. Grrrrrrrrr

Dollar likes to play with their rates. Keep checking. I check a few times a day.

Just got a great rate from Dollar for my July 3-10, I am down to $165.39 for standard.

I was checking on my iPad, told DS to get off the desktop, logged in and the rates went right back up. GRRRR. And I am off work on FMLA and checking several times daily, early morning and late night.

I had been hoping to get under $200 for my 7 day rental (I was sitting at $213 for a long time) and am thrilled with $165 and change. I will keep looking today but then I will stop, don't want to touch anything close to the 24 hour window because I am paranoid like that. Plus, when I cancelled my reservation the other day I somehow cancelled the wrong one, even though I checked and double checked (or at least I thought I did). Thankfully it is all working out just fine!

What codes did you use?

I went through Car Rental savers but the confirmation says I used promo code CHEP

Best rate I've found for my 7/3 - 7/6, 4 full days, standard size rental out of TPA is still directly through Alamo: $74.17. If you're still looking - try using your Alamo Insiders id and then use the free upgrade promo code AU5224JAB.

I'm done looking! Leaving Friday morning and I don't see that rate getting any lower. Good luck to all and thanks for the helpful tips in this thread!

Thanks.

Ugh. I tried to book with Dollar in TPA and there is a $47 facility charge on TOP of a $10.36 Facility Fee. The rate for my 8 days is $95.07 but the charges, fees and taxes are ANOTHER $96.56 more than the cost of the car! I've flown in and out of Tampa quite a bit and I don't remember fees being that freaking high.

My week from MCO is $110 base but with the fees $165.39. I am just soo happy to be under $200, which for awhile there looked like there was no hope!

Thanks.

That seemed high but when compared to mine the charges are probably similar per day. Taxes and fees just slightly higher than the cost of the rental:

When did you make your reservation? I just tried Alamo for your dates and they are $32 per day.

The current res was made on 6/26. I checked rates this morning and they were similar to what I got but was a few dollars more. I see they've really jumped in the past 6 hours or so! yikes

Anyone want to throw me a bone and help me find best rate for a full-size SUV (minivan if we have to but I have banged my knee up the last 3 trips driving dang minivans!) for 7/14-7/28 at MCO?

I'm in shock at the rates compared to when I was there 2 weeks ago. I paid just over $300 for a fs SUV but was upgraded to a premium because the Tahoe they tried to give me reeked of cigar smoke and the only thing they had was a suburban.

This is going to be the factor in whether or not we fly vs. rent here and drive.

You could try going through Undercover Tourist - you'll have to buy a ticket from them to get access to their rates but it can be for anything and some of them are really cheap. Always worth a look.

I have never used them for car rental but I believe people buy a very cheap 1 day ticket to some other attraction for $10-$20 to get access to the UT rates.

I have a lock low and go rate from Dollar from MCO 7/15-7/25 for $266.15. I don't really need the car for the entire time so I also have a car rented from Alamo thru Costco from the Dolphin for $121.28 for 7/17-7/20 for a midsize car. I will probably cancel the Dollar rental since I don't need the car for the entire 10 day stay. We are staying at BC so the walk to the Dolphin is super quick.

You can do a dummy order to get to the place where you can check rates and see if purchasing a cheap ticket is worth it or not.

Thanks for the UT info! Looks like it's slightly cheaper...$7 less than what I'm looking at with Alamo now but cheapest ticket I see is $10 so not worth buying through them.
