We are planning a cruise and can't decide on Disney air Rccl. When the oasis comes to port canaveral , do you think the intinery will be similar to the Disney fantasy? Do you think the prices will drop because of the competition ? thanks

RCL has the Oasis sailings posted on its website. Look for November 2016 or later. I see sailings that stop at Nassau, STT, StM, and their private island.

Just doing a little more browsing on the RCL site and I also see sailings to the Western Caribbean with stops at Falmouth Jamaica, Cozumel, and their private beach at Labadee Haiti. So, essentially they are competing head to head with DCL and Carnival on their Port Canaveral sailings.

Currently, there are only 6 ports that can accommodate the Oasis class ships doing Caribbean sailings. Eastern run visits St. Thomas, St. Maartin and Coco Cay( private island in the Bahamas). Western run visits Cozumel, Falmouth and Labadee(private island in Hati).

Oasis class ships do not stop in Coco Cay but at Nassau instead, because Coco Cay is a tender port. If the prices are competitive, and ports are important, I'd choose Fantasy. However, from what I've seen so far with the mock bookings we've done on both ships, Oasis is coming out less expensive for a better cabin.

For example: Oasis Eastern in November 2016 - $2325 for a D1 balcony; Disney Fantasy - $2915 for a cat 11C interior.

Not sure why Grand Cayman wouldn't be able to accommodate an Oasis class ship.

The official line from RCL is the logistics of tendering 6,000+ passengers back and forth from the island doesn't provide enough time for anyone to do anything on the island. Oasis class ships don't call on any tender ports - even their own private island.

I would assume that Oasis will always be cheaper than any Disney ship unless you are getting a good FL resident rate. However, that is just my opinion. I would be Oasis in a heart beat.

I do hope that Oasis being in PC does drive down the price on Disney a little bit. I only say this because I feel like people go on the Oasis of the Seas for the ship not the ports...I feel the same way about the Disney ships...people go to sail with Disney...not to go to the ports...except for Castaway Cay.

Agree. The unfortunate reality for Disney cruisers is that DCL doesn't recognize the existence of competition, so they will ultimately continue to ignore other lines that invade their domain. Disney is so wrapped up in its own hype, that it firmly believes everything it peddles to the public.

And until they stop selling out most of their cruises they have a right to continue to ignore other lines. As long as people are willing to pay the extra, prices will keep going up, because they can. Maybe, just maybe, a ship like the Oasis being in direct competition with the Fantasy (since they have the same length cruises with very similar ports) might be enough to bring DCL back down to reality a bit, at the very least maybe stop the annual price increase for a year or 2.

Absolutely agree, but would add that the probability of Disney bringing on any more ships under their current mentality is remote at best. They maintain their pricing model by periodically reducing supply (moving home ports/placing ships in Europe and Alaska for parts of the year). Short supply + pixy dust demand can barely support the prices they charge for the ships they have. Add a ship, and you upset the equation.

Oasis has lots more to offer than DCL....such as the fact that it is the largest ship in the world, flowrider, multiple specialty restaurants, and 5 pools...as opposed to Disney's two specialty restaurants, and 2 small pools. There were many people on my last Oasis cruise wearing DCL lanyards. I would say the experience is similar, the entertainment on Oasis in my opinion is better, and the cost is much cheaper. I guess really in the end it all depends on what you are looking for....however, I think after our cruise on the Dream in January it will probably be our last sailing with Disney in a while.

We're in the same boat:) Our next cruise on Dream will be our 10th (and probably last) Disney cruise. When I can get a 7-night cruise on Oasis for the same price as a 4-night cruise on Dream, Disney has no chance to retain my business.

I agree...our upcoming 4 night Dream cruise is costing more than our 9 night Anthem cruise. It isn't really a fair comparison because we are going concierge on the Dream. However, on our Oasis cruise last month we were able to pay for the cruise and get premium drink packages and it was still a lot less then DCL.

I also feel more valued on RC. I like how each day counts towards my status as opposed to each sailing. I don't think it is fair that a person can do 10, 3 day cruises and be platinum....that is only 30 days at sea. Were if you only do 7 day cruises you would have to have sailed 70 days to be platinum.

Especially agree with this. Other than a different colored beach bag and a free dinner in Palo, I'm not sure what value there is in being Platinum on Disney. 10 cruises on RCL (under the old counting scheme) or 80 nights under the new scheme gets you a $225 discount off of a 7-night cruise, a nightly cocktail party in a dedicated lounge, two days of free internet, and a lot of other perks.
