How can we get fastpasses for the seven dwarfs mine train if we will not be renewing our AP's until we actually get down to WDW? Last year we were unable to get fast passes for this for our entire 8 night trip because of this. It was just crazy...... It wouldnt make much sense to renew our passes early either since we'd then "lose" a few months being able to use our passes. Thanks for your help!

If you intend to renew for definite, can you not get a renewal online or over the phone? this will give you the number you need to put into MDE to be able tomake those FP+ reservations? I know you can do that when you buy a new AP so surely must be able to do the same with a renewal :confused3

I'm no ticketing expert, but I don't think you can "lose" months. When do your passes expire? Let's say they expire on August 1. If your trip is on September 1 and you renew your passes at that time, I think the renewal goes back to August 2. So your newly renewed passes would be good from Aug. 2 to Aug. 2 of the next year. The alternative is to forego renewal (do they still offer a discount?) and buy new passes that would start on Sept. 1. Either way, you can do this on the phone and start making FPs at the 60/30 day mark. At least this is how I understood it a few years ago when I had APs. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

You can't get a FP without ticket media associated with your account.

There is no benefit to waiting to purchase if you intend to have a lapse in your dates.

You can buy them now and plug them in to MDE. They don't start till you actually use them on your first day. So just buy them prior to 60 or 30 days out based on if on site or not.

This. You can renew by phone 60 days before, and 30 days after AP expiration. The renewal will be dated the same month and day as your previous pass, with expiration one year into the future. If there's a significant gap between your AP expiration and your next visit, you might want to skip renewal and just get a new AP. For new AP, you'll get a voucher to enter info into MDE to book FP+ with, but I think that's only good for 7 days of FP+, unless you have a resort stay booked. The voucher requires activation in person at WDW, and the new AP will be dated from the activation date. Florida residents can use a payment program, if that applies.

1. True.

2. Not exactly true of a new AP and not true at all of an AP RENEWAL (which is what the OP is asking about.)
A new AP becomes active on the day that you convert the AP voucher into a live AP at WDW or on the day that you purchase a new live AP at WDW.
An AP renewal automatically becomes active on the anniversary date that the original AP was activated.
But, it has nothing to do with what day that you first enter a WDW park.

3. Yup. True of all tickets, AP vouchers and/or renewals included.

Yes I know what you mean about an actual AP Renewal, but OP stated they would be renewing when they got down there, but that really wouldn't be a renewal just buying new AP vouchers. So they can still buy the new AP's in time to make their FP+

Thanks for the information! I guess most important peice that i left out was that its a premier AP (for both Dl and WDW) and i was told i need to buy this in person. which means i wouldnt be able to purchase the ticket and have it not be activated until its first use. This would prevent me from getting the ticket # to put in. does this sound accurate to anyone else? Also that you cant purchase the tickets other than in person????

If you can't get a FP+, you can always wait until a little later in the evening and ride via standby. We rode 7D in early June just after Wishes with about a 5 minute wait. The posted wait time was 65 minutes. Our longest wait ever for this attraction was 20 minutes, and that was during opening week last summer. The lines really do get short at night.

Don't feel that you can't ride just because you don't have a FP.

Can't you just buy the regular AP, then upgrade once you get there?

Or, just buy regular Magic Your Way tickets with the correct number of days to cover this upcoming trip.

Make all of the FP+ reservations based on those tickets, then use the value of the MYW tickets to help purchase/renew the Premier AP after arrival.
The FP+ reservations will follow over to the AP.

Regardless of the date that you pay for the renewal, the start date tacks on to the end of your current AP.

For example, your AP expiration date is August 31st. If you renew in July, your AP renewal start date is September 1st. If you renew your AP on September 25th, your AP renewal start date is September 1st.

You could always purchase hoppers, add them to MDE and upgrade them to an AP after you enter the park . That wold allow you to book your FPs. .....And, if you purchase from a place like Undercover Tourist, you can save a little money but still get the full value of the ticket.

So you're getting the Premier, and yes, you can only get that in person.

Since you don't know that for sure, I'm assuming that right now you don't have a Premier? Also I'm not sure that Premier has a renewal rate, so even if you have one now there's no reason to pay for months you won't use.

What you CAN do is buy tickets for the length of your stay (or a WDW AP), link it, and that gives you the ticket you need to make FP+ arrangements.

When you get to WDW, take that ticket or WDW AP, use it at least one time, and then go upgrade it to the Premier.

Or if you don't do any of that, FWIW, on my Food&Wine/Wine&Dine race/holiday weekend visit we got Mine Train FP+s in the park, on the fly, for an hour from the moment we got the FP+ made. So don't give up, not even when you're in the park.
