crazy flight prices

anyone else notice that flights this year are very pricey. We fly out of Yyt and we usually get tickets around 600$. A person this year it's up around 800. Don't even see them coming down. Half the flights I check don't even have a econo option

I was just thinking that this morning. I know we paid just under $350/person for our flights YOW-MCO Sept 30-Oct 9. I bought those ticket on July 11th. That's just a little over a month away and prices need to come down quite a bit still to match that. Right now, the cheapest flight for our dates are $404/person and are significantly more for times we would actually want. Our dates are flexible though so if I am forced to adjust to get the prices I need, I will. It still shouldn't be that expensive for Sept. 23 - Oct 2 or Sept. 22 - Oct 1.

Feeling the same thing. Hoping that AC/WJ get prices down to $400 for YYZ-MCO October flights and I'm still waiting.

@Nutbean, you should be hitting that 6-12 week window where prices are supposedly at their lowest. Keep your fingers crossed.

As for me, I may be looking at a road trip if prices don't improve.

Even flights from Buffalo are terrible. long gone are the days of paying $100 return or less from Buffalo.

Ended up paying $600 for YYZ-MCO for end of August. Really didn't want to pay that much but was also worried the prices would steadily increase. Upside is that we're flying with WestJet (who I've never had any issues with) and our arrival and departure times are ideal.

Yeah, prices are really hard to get a handle on right now. For us our best bet has been on United from YEG. We've usually gotten fares right around $500 plus or minus $10 a few weeks after the dates are released. When our Nov trip dates came up the best I could find was around $600 so I bought them. Just a few days later I got an upgrade offer to 1st class for about $200 per person. Considering that we often get extra legroom seats and sometimes check a bag at least one way, we decided to splurge and upgrade. Right now those very same flights are going for $1300 for an economy fare! :crazy2:

I noticed they were released high, but we booked flights for June and September this year and both ended up being cheaper than years past. We ended up with $370 and $380 per person YYZ-MCO with Air Canada.

Just booked my flight for April 13 - 27 YHZ - MCO direct $427! Less than last time.

I have found flight costs to be terrible. We fly out of Buffalo, and I had to watch for their flights to open up and then book the first thing I found, which were more than I had wanted to pay. That being said, the flights actually went up in price since I booked, so I guess I got a deal, but it didn't really feel like it!

I'm considering flying out of Buffalo, but with the exchange rate it's not THAT much cheaper to fly there, plus I'll have the hassle of driving with 3 kids.

I was looking at southwest yesterday and they had flights from Buffalo for $220 per person in January & February. Even with the exchange that's super cheap as they even had direct flights at that price. What's weird is it's cheaper to fly with them from Buffalo to Orlando than Buffalo to New York.

I hear that. I priced it out and for my dates its 230 pp, which is approx 290 Can, not including cc surcharge. I'm stalking to see if I can get flights out of Can for approx 350 pp, which I've gotten before. I'm flying alone with 3 kids, so to save $50 per person to drive 2.5 hours each way (plus the cost of gas!) isn't worth it for me. If I can't get those prices on flights then of course I'll reconsider, but I have to take into account ease of travel with 3 kids.

We always fly out of Buffalo. But prices have definitely gone up. We're paying $300pp total (Canadian) for our flights in November. That said, I will fly out of Buffalo any day. I love it compared to Pearson, especially with kids. It's a small airport, very easy to navigate, and I love doing customs driving so we don't have to deal with the crazy lines in TO.

It appears that if you depart and arrive home (from YYZ) on a Tuesday or Wednesday (for much of the fall) and fly on the night flights, you can get return tickets on AC in the $360 range. Those flying times don't work for me but someone can probably take advantage.

We usually pay give or take $400/pp with Air Canada for YUL to MCO. That being said, my wife works for Air Canada Vacations, so we have a much easier time knowing how and where to find the prices. We've tried to look out of Burlington and Plattsburg but we prefer direct flights and the time it takes to get there, etc. just doesn't make it worth it for us.

We are looking to book our March break flights for next year, but so far the Westjet and AC options aren't too appealing time wise or price wise (And I'm trying to avoid flying AC Rouge like the plague). We'll see what the rates are for Southwest when they are released for March.

That is a great price. We fly out of YUL as well and the prices for next FEB are crazy expensive. I am hoping they go down.

Ugh. I am so frustrated right now. The flights times out of Ottawa in September are pretty much crap and expensive crap to boot. I really want to book asap as I'm waiting on our flights before booking anything else. I have nothing booked at all for this vacation and we're supposed to go on it in two months!

We live around Toronto so cross border flying is less than 2 hours away. I just booked a flight in September from Niagara Falls, NY to St. Pete-Clearwater, FL for $51.50 down and $56.00 return all taxes and fees included on Allegiant Air. I then grabbed an Intermediate Car rental with Alamo through Costco for $108.00 taxes in for one week out of the the St. Pete's airport. Not too shabby!
