So I interviewed in person for the job of Vacation Planner at WDW last Tuesday. The interview was short (about 15 mins) and very casual. The recruiter asked me why WDW and I said it was a company with a lot of room for growth which he seemed to really like. I also have a lot of experience in fine dining food service which we touched on too. He said if I were interested he'd recommend me for a serving position if something opened up too. He actually asked me very few questions about the position itself which worried me. The only thing that felt specific was how much I know about the tickets they offer. I said as a floridian I'm more familiar with the FLres packages but have a basic working knowledge of the benefits of buying different ticket options for different lengths of stays.I also said I knew of the huge following disney has w / forums etc online and that it would be a great resource for me to learn more info. He seemed impressed. At the end of the interview he made sure that my contact info was accurate. He said I was really outgoing and would be a great fit for the company, and that the only thing that could work against me is that I still live in fort lauderdale. I said I have appointments in the area to look at apts (my lease in ft laud ends in sept but I could walk away a month or two early) and family in vero beach I could stay with while i transition up to orlando if the job needed me to start earlier than that. he shook my hand and said that it is a two-interview process and that I would be hearing back about a second interview. "It could be tomorrow. It could be three weeks from now but it will be soon." I left the interview feeling really confident. (I also realized later in the day that i forgot to take my nose ring out, but it;s small and relatively unnoticeable.) fast forward (less than) a week later and I'm nervous that I haven't heard anything back. My dashboard still says "in progress" and I've read on another WDW site that the way he ended the interview was a polite "no". It was also so fast I'm nervous I didnt leave a good enough impression. I'd brought a detailed resume/cv to give to him but he seemed to have whatever i'd done online printed out so i didnt have the opportunity. I briefly spoke about how much the parks meant to me and I was smiling huge the entire time but I'm really nervous! it's been a dream to work for the mouse and any insight would be really appreciated!! i also called the casting center today to try and get an update on my status, because i had dropped my phone in water the day before and was worried i might have missed a call. the woman at casting told me my status there was listed as "pending second interview" and that i should hear from someone soon. she asked me if i wanted to be connected to the recruiter but i politely declined. i'm also nervous because i see here a lot of people have said they emailed the recruiter after the interview but other than his first name (Greg) I didnt get any info. also apologies if this isn't posted in the right place to post this!! still getting used to dis.

I hope you hear something soon, I'm sure it will be good news. I live in the Chicago area and I'm looking for work with Disney or other companies in the Orlando area. My husband and I want to move down, but really can't without a job lined up right now. :surfweb:

I'm close enough that the transition should be easy. I've also thankfully been able to save a LOT of cash from waiting tables and have great credit for my age (790 and 22). I went thru a really rough break-up in february that is honestly still affecting me and moving almost 3 hours away is the best thing I could possibly do for myself. It's also quite a bit cheaper to live in Orlando than fort laud! For what I pay now I could get twice the square footage in a much nicer gated complex with amenities included. I'm only one person with a small dog, I barely need more space than a studio... Granted I wouldn't be half a mile from the beach anymore but there's always the Poly for that :rolleyes1

Believe me, the interviewer noticed your nose ring. If you are interviewing for a competitive job, something like this can be a deal breaker, especially when this is not allowed by Disney for their employees. Be careful in the future and good luck.

Yep.

Good luck, OP and please keep us posted.

Speaking as a staffing professional I would recommend that in the future you present a hard copy of your resume at the beginning of your interview. Also, always be sure to ask for your interviewer's business card so that you may follow up with an email a day or so later to thank the person for meeting with you and to keep yourself fresh in their mind. Imagine how many people that person will see over the course of a job posting. If for some reason you fail to do so, you can always ask the receptionist or someone in a similar role to provide you with the correct spelling of the interviewer's name and his or her email address. I also agree with PP about any piercings or body art. It helps to research a company's dress code before an interview so that you are prepared to remove or cover up anything that might go against their policy. Good luck to you in finding an opportunity.

Haha thanks for the responses everyone! This nose ring may well be the death of me lol. Well, Disney finally called me back. No second interview, they pretty much just told me I was hired and to come back to Orlando to finalize the process etc. The problem is that this phone call came nearly two months (!) later. I've since applied to school in NY and signed a lease in Brooklyn. The dream of working for Disney is dead for now it seems :/ ironically too, I got the call while on line for the Hogwarts ride at Universal. Wanted to tell my recruiter I was right next door lol. I'd never been and am now moving out of FL next month so I decided it was time to see what the hype was about at universal and Islands of Adventure. I have to say I was really impressed! Still made it to Boma for birthday dinner, though :)

Good luck to you! I'm sorry that your dream of working for Disney didn't work out but it sounds like you're moving forward.

Two months is ridiculous! I'm glad you're moving forward, but sad it took them 2 months to recognize your potential as an awesome employee.
