I am looking for City Walk dining recommendations. We just tried to make one for Margaritaville on 7/16 or 7/17 and we were told the restaurant was blocked for that night. Anyone know what that is about? This place is a favorite so we are disappointed but maybe we can find a new favorite.

www.citywalk.com

go thru the meus of the other places located in city walk
see what catches your eye.

check the menus for the onsite hotel restaurants.

Call the restaurant directly. Restaurants only allow a small portion of their tables to be available for reservations or it may just be they don't take reservations during peak season.

There is a very small chance that someone or a group has bought out the restaurant for the evening. It would be astronomically expensive.

Restaurants can be taken over by companies for the evening for corporate events.

Last year we couldn't get into NASCAR one evening as whole restaurant was being used by one company for the night. Not unusual and if they are saying it is blocked then sounds like private function.

As macraven says have a look at damo's sticky......full of restaurant information in Citywalk, parks and hotels.

This is true but corporate events like that usually do not take place in the summer. Sept-early November and late February through April.

I was an event planner/hotelier for almost 20 years.

A more likely scenario would be some sort of Parrothead Convention.

I'd still call the restaurant and find out.

We really like Cowfish in Citywalk. We've eaten there several times and thought the food was really good.

Things have changed since being an event planner
I know the manager that works with set ups and told many times there is always a convention going on at the hotels
All months have them
I have been there in January while they ha e been going on
Last year La Voz was large event

places in city walk can take in large groups for a specific time period which leaves walk ins having to make other plans.

Eh, Margaritaville's food is overpriced anyway - you'll find much better elsewhere.

  • There isn't anything wrong with The Cowfish, though my personal opinion is that it is a bit overrated/over-hyped. However, they do have a lot of fans.
  • I've had good meals and service at Vivo (try the Fiochetti pasta or whatever they're calling it now - it is a favorite of mine).
  • I was also surprised to find that I had a very enjoyable meal/experience at Antojito's, although many here have panned it. Since I'm not a fan of Mexican food/peppers/rice&beans, I didn't think I'd enjoy anything but my meal was quite tasty. Plus, their Mariachi band can be very entertaining.
  • If you're okay with more of a fast casual location instead of table service, the pizza at Red Oven is quite yummy.
  • Will you have a car? If so, Restaurant Row in Sand Lake has some great options and is only a short drive away. There are also some surprisingly good new additions in the I-Drive area - Cooper's Hawk Winery & Restaurant is really good and then there are a couple places near the Orlando Eye that aren't bad - Tin Roof (they also have live music nightly - we saw a great acoustic set from American Idol contestant David Oliver Willis when we were there) and McFaddens come to mind.

agree a lot with PammyK.
some of the more popular places at city for the tourists aren't always the best for many.
could be that different cooks, different nights could make a difference in the foods.

going off site is a good idea if you have a car.
i have found some lovely places in the area away from the parks.

i have eaten at the chain restaurants at city walk when i am with others.
it's not always the place i would have picked.
we have bubba gumps at navy pier/chgo, margaritaville also at navy pier.
when i am in orlando, i prefer not to do the same chain restaurants that i can go to back home.

B.Gumps replaced my favorite place to eat at years ago in city walk...

That's so true........we go offsite a lot to eat while we are there........we like to try new places every year and have found some real crackers that are off the beaten every day track.

I have heard from a friend McFaddens was rocking on Friday night........:drinking1looks to be a very lively place!!

I agree Sand Lake Road restaurants are hard to beat........plan to go back to a few this year again. Thanks for the recommendations......always nice to hear from locals :thumbsup2

OP definitely consider other options.......since Margaritaville looks to be closed for a function there are lots of options open to you........have you considered the 3 deluxe hotel restaurants if you didn't want to go offsite? There are some lovely choices there too......and only a boat ride away

Been there in Both August and Jan and Margaritaville was closed to the public on a couple of nights for private convention events. It happens pretty often at Margaritaville. In Jan we HAD ressies there for the one night and got to the restaurant only to find out it was closed to the public, they couldn't honor our ressie and forgot to notify us.We ate at Cowfish instead and enjoyed it

Thanks for the suggestions. Not that I don't trust my husband but I called and verified that the restaurant is not available. It is blocked for a private event on both Thursday and Friday nights 7/16-17. Someone must be paying a lot of money to close a restaurant on Friday evening.

Oh well, off to read menus from other places. We don't want to get the car out so we are looking at something on property.

If you're looking for a tropical feel, Royal Pacific has Tchoup Tchoup by Emeril, as well as the Luau, for example.

A friend works on I-Drive so we were able to go to a preview event before the official opening and sample some of the food and beverage options. All the food we tried was really tasty, drinks were good, bartenders were awesome. But best of all, Off Kilter was performing! Haven't had a chance to go back since, but glad to hear that they seem to be maintaining or even extending their opening momentum. They're really working Social Media so if you think you might go there, especially for the nightlife aspect it may be worth your while to register with their website and social media sites. They also have $0.15 wing nights every Wednesday.

Sounds like a plan. This year we have BigFin Seafood and Blue Martini on our list of places to try........and Capital Grill on IDrive........so many places....not enough nights ::yes::
