How bad is the smoking?

In the parks, they're really out of the way and I've never smelled smoke in any of the parks (former smoker, so I'm actually quite sensitive to it). They were built as places for people to relax and slow down, and are intentionally out of the way, and turned them into smoking areas later. As for resorts, although they're on the path, the good news is you can see them a ways away and see if they're occupied.

The former Adventureland smoking spot near aloha Isle has been moved. It's now on the back of the little 'hub' between Crystal Palace and the bridge into Adventureland. If you can't walk within 20 feet of smoke, that one could bother you, but you can always go up and around.

They eliminated the one near the castle earlier this year. (Both the normal location on the path toward Merida and the temporary location on the path to sleepy hollow).

One remains near the exit from thunder mountain rr, and 2 on the back path from Barnstormer to Tomorrowland. If you don't take that path, you'll never know they're there.

I had asthma as a teenager and have had a tobacco allergy which triggers asthmatic symptoms basically my whole life (the best thing that EVER happened to me was a ban on smoking in restaurants and bars in my city - I used to have to shower when I came home at night and leave my clothing outside my bedroom door or wake up wheezing) so I'm very aware of smoking. I literally did not notice any smoking when we were at WDW.

I actually assumed WDW was smoke free and wondered how my dad was going to handle it on our upcoming trip, as he is a cigar (and possibly cigarette) smoker. Good to know there are designated smoking areas....sort of.

The absolute WORST smoking situation is at Pop Century across from the Goofy water jet area. If you are in the 70's buildings - you must pass this area to get to the food court. As a recent cancer patient, this was difficult to tolerate. We went far out of our way - to the parking lot - to avoid the smoke.

I do not recall any area in any of the parks where this is an issue.

I think it is pretty easy to avoid cigarette smoke both in the parks and at the Resorts. I know all the parks have designated areas for people to smoke in if they wish. I imagine they also have them at all the Resorts at well. I know at the BW Resort which my family stays at the most I have never encountered someone smoking. In the Parks I do see a very few people not complying to the smoking areas and walking around smoking, but it is very rare in my opinion to see this. There has never been someone smoking in a line waiting for a ride.

I second this! I stayed in 70's, by the Mickey phone. It really bothered me and I'm a cancer survivor, too.

I have very mild asthma, so it's not really an issue for me. I'm an ex-smoker though, and I loved every single cigarette I put in my mouth. I have no problem with alcohol or drugs, but I am the single most nicotine addicted human being on earth. I've been chewing nicotine gum for decades, literally, and I got hooked on it this last time without ever starting to smoke again. Missed the nicotine, picked up some gum for a party and have never been able to quit. Sad but true. Anyway, on our trip this past Fall I noticed the smoke much more than I ever have. It rained for days on end, and I think that's why the smoke was so much more noticeable. So, I just thought I'd mention that you might want to be extra-cautious if it rains. Seemed to make the smoke hang in the air longer.
