Welcome Lunch

Does anyone have any ideas as to where to have a plated welcome lunch with steak on property in a private setting for 40 people? Right now we are at Ariels and it is 61.50 for lunch with salad, steak and dessert. Any thoughts?

Do you mean like a restaurant with a private room? Or another location for your private catered event? Our welcome event was at Ariel's too. We were quoted a plated dinner minimum of $2500 for our event in 2014 which seems to coincide with what you're being quoted. The buffet minimum was $1800 if you'd consider that, then you could go as low as $45pp.

If you want to stay in the area, have you checked out any of the ballrooms or other such rooms at the Yacht & Beach Club or Boardwalk? I don't think they have minimums in the same way Ariel's does. There is of course Yachtsman, though you can't make that private and I don't know if they'd accommodate 40 people.

I'm asking because I know Disney food is good, but because we want steak, I was thinking of maybe somewhere that actually specializes in it. At first we were in the whitehall room, but that was a minimum of 70pp. I started looking at Todd English's bluezoo private rooms and I love the feel of it. I think I'm looking for a more elegant feel to the room. The dark wood and pretty chairs. Like below. upload_2015-6-30_14-9-13.png

Definitely check with the Swolphin restaurants... It will probably be at least what Disney quoted you though tbh.

They actually have their menus online with the prices on the swan and dolphin website. I just really like the elegant atmosphere. I emailed them to find out to see if they do lunch private parties and if they can fit my group. I will post it when they let me know. :)

They definitely have a gorgeous atmosphere. I believe a bride on here in about 2013 had a lunch at Il Mulino and it was about $55/person no steak. I tried to book a dinner at Big River Grille and it was going to be $40/person no private room and a beef option but it wasn't steak I don't think... But then they failed to get back to me and after 3 tries where someone was 'definitely' going to send me the contracts I gave up and booked at Garden Grove for cheaper with characters and a three course meal. HTH

We had our reception at bluezoo. It was dinner, but I know of another bride who had a lunch reception there. You'll have to meet a room minimum in addition to the per-person menu pricing. I'm not sure if the minimum is different at lunch since the restaurant is closed then. How many guests are you expecting?

Oh that's great! We are having a group of 40.

See, I have heard about unanswered calls and emails and I just didn't want to go through that. . .lol I'm glad you ended up with a better bill and characters. They always add something to the mix. :)

Okay, here's what I know. bluezoo has three private dining rooms. Essentially, they're one room with removable walls in between. Each of the small rooms holds a strict maximum of 18 people, so you would need to rent all three to accommodate 40. The minimum spend per room is $1,200, so it would be a minimum of $3,600 for all three rooms. So that works out to $90 per head for your group, plus tax and grat. The automatic gratuity at Swan/Dolphin restaurants is 23%, so a little higher than the Disney properties. BUT, since the restaurant is closed at lunch, you would be able to skirt the private dining room issue and have your lunch in the main dining room. I have no idea what the minimum is for that. Honestly, I would look at Shula's, which is also closed to the public for lunch and makes an outstanding steak. You definitely get the dark wood look you like in there, as long as you don't mind giant black and white sports photos in gold leaf frames.

Oh, what great information! Unfortunately, Disney's service charge is 23% as well. :( I will get in touch with them and find out my options. Thank you for the information. This gives me a head start and helps tremendously. :)

Have you checked out the Turf Club at Saratoga Springs resort. It has the dark wood and a pretty good steak. In my opinion anyway. We ate there last year and it was quite pleasant. They don't do lunch so it may be available for a private party.

OMG!!! I completely forgot about the Turf. It was my favorite restaurant when I worked at Disney. We used to call it Disney's hidden gem. Yeah, they don't do lunch, but I will check to see if they have a private dining option. Thank you! :)

I don't know if ya'll are still looking, but you may try Paradiso 37 over at downtown disney. They do steak, and they have a private-ish outdoor seating area, that I think could accommodate.
