San Francisco and Napa Long Weekend (formerly DVC only) Meets Thread

Finally booked my first ABD!!! San Francisco seems like a good place to celebrate a 40th birthday! My husband Randy and I will be on the October 6-9,2016 trip. I'm so excited and can't wait to hear from all of you who are going this year. When I went on my first cruise in 1998 I wasn't prepared for my addiction to cruising that would happen after that cruise. I will be prepared for my ABD addiction to start after this trip and I know that there will be many more in my future!

Congrats! That is a great time of the year to visit San Francisco and usually that is when Fleet Week is held so you might get to see the Blue Angels buzzing the City. There are several of us that live in the Bay Area on the boards so let us know if you need suggestions for On Your Own time or pre-trip. If it is not on the ABD tour, make sure you visit the Ferry Building markets.

hilarys....THANK YOU so much!! That is so kind of you to offer. Actually, if you have a recommendation for a nice place to have dinner with some live jazz music that would be great! My husband is a huge jazz fan and I thought we could enjoy a nice meal and listen to some great music. I will definitely have to look into the Ferry Building markets. I'm know we won't be able to squeeze in everything we want to do....I guess that just means we'll have to come back at some other time for another visit. Also good to know about the time of year. I was a little hesitant, but it sounds like it may be a very good time to visit!!

I live in the Bay area too, and October is one of the best times to visit. Right now we suffer from June Gloom with plenty of overcast days. October temps can still be in the high 70 and even low 80s with lots of sun. SF is always breezy, and even more so if you intend to walk or bike across the Golden Gate Bridge!

My DH & I have just been confirmed on the Aug 13-16 trip as well. So excited! This is our first ABD trip although we have a long list of ones we want to take.
Congrats on booking your first ABD! I have no doubt you will be doing that long list of ABDs, as they are HIGHLY addictive!

I've added you to the Roll Call. Looks like you'll be on the same departure as DISers Anonymousegirl & AlwaysPlanning!

Sayhello

Yes in October you have the chance for some nice warm weather unlike the summer. I worked in the City for 15 years but live in the East Bay. Often I would have 30 to 40 degree temperature shifts during my commute home.

One of San Francisco's famous jazz clubs closed recently but I have heard good things about Bix's for food and jazz. It is in the financial district so it will be convenient and easy to get to. If you are baseball fans, a tour of the baseball stadium is fun.

Anonymousegirl...I can't wait to hear about both of your trips!! Obviously, I'm very excited to hear about SF since we have that one booked for next year, but Peru is also of some interest to me. Enjoy your trips! Lucky girl...two trips back to back. Awesome!!

CA native here. I'm not a bay area resident but I have been to SF numerous times. You'll love it. Tgeorge, take your hubby to a show for his b-day. SF has lots of great theater. Phantom of the opera will be playing in Oct. I know cause I have plans to see it myself.

There may be some Disney musicals playing too.

For shows, one of my favorites is Beach Blanket Babylon. Hilarious parodies of current topics (Kardashians, Royal Family, current US President). Been running since 1974.

That sounds fun! My husband hates pop culture (a 38 year old who hates pop culture and loves jazz...he is unique) :-) I think he may enjoy something that makes fun of current pop culture. Thanks for the tip! I never thought of a show until you guys brought it up, but I think it would be a great idea.

Well, it is helpful (read way funnier) if your DH knows at least to what the performers are referring. They make fun of reality shows, recent high profile news stories (the weird ones, not the tragic ones), celebrities, and politicians. The shop is famous for its outrageous costumes and hats.

Well, I am going to try to do trip reports here, but I think I will take the two days off in between the ABDs to sleep, do laundry and of course, go to work! My boss wasn't too thrilled with me for turning around and taking another 2 days off so soon, but I had the days, so it's a go!

Oh...he knows all about them and would get the references. He just hates hearing about those things as though the Kardashians are really important. So, a show that makes fun of those things may be something he actually finds funny.

What?? Laundry, work....I'm not sure those are good excuses :-) Totally understandable. We will all be here waiting on the reports whenever you get a chance. I know they are a lot of work and I know a lot of us will appreciate it. So take your time.

Put me in the roll call for ABD Aug 13-16! :earsboy:
We'll be visiting Disneyland for a few days and flying up the evening of the 12th.
Welcome! We are getting a nice group of DISers for this departure! We will be coming in around 8pm on the 12th! Enjoy Disneyland. One of my favorite shows is the Mad Tea party at California Adventure. Good music and drinks--like a mini rock concert.

Are you traveling with your family?
