If you had one day in San Francisco in August what would you do?... and in what order?

We are there for a Sunday through Wednesday.

Sunday is a relaxing day, going to a Giants game and then Chinatown for dinner.
Monday is for Alcatraz and Fisherman's Wharf, with dinner at Ghiradelli Square.
Tuesday is a road trip up to Muir woods and wine country.

Wednesday is the hole in my schedule for doing things "in town".

What and where would you go in town? The only thing I wanted to put in the schedule was the Disney Museum. Other than that I am open to suggestions.

Oh, and unless I can do better, we will be staying in South San Francisco, near the airport, if that helps any. Also, we are a party of 5, 3 Adults and 2 18yos

All help greatly appreciated.

Just to let you know check out Travelzoo.com for the area, sometimes they have a great deal for the disney museum. Also check groupon and living socials .com

I don't know of too many things near the airport. The ferry building is a fun thing thing to check out as well. Great shops and restaurants.

We enjoyed exploring the shops at Pier 39. If you aren't tired from driving through Muir Woods, you might enjoy heading south to Monterey and see the 17-mile drive and go to the aquarium.

LOL you do realise the Aquarium is over 100 miles away

I do this several times a year. However, I have a four year old.

Without a car or with my car parked all day in San Francisco, we often go to the Academy of Sciences, Exploratorium, Fishermans Wharf, and Union Square. You can take a cable car to/from Union Square/Fishermans Wharf. The 5 or N plus the 44 get you to the Academy of Sciences. There are many ways this can be done.

Yes, been there, done that; and it's a scenic drive.

The fastest way (mostly down 101) isn't exactly all that scenic. And the coastal route is slow, but a spectacular drive. I've actually made that drive a few times, and often I'd get stuck in Half Moon Bay trying to get past the traffic light at CA-92.

Even though the Monterey Bay Aquarium is spectacular, the California Academy of Sciences has the fairly new Steinhart Aquarium renovation. It's a pretty fun experience, and there's a diverse science museum to boot. They have an albino alligator named Clyde. Apparently they couldn't house it with other alligators because they pick on him. San Francisco CityPASS has the option of Aquarium of the Bay or Monterey Bay Aquarium. I think it's no comparison for which one is better, but then again Aquarium of the Bay is in San Francisco.

Also - if you're going to Muir Woods and have at least three adults, get the annual pass. It almost feels as if the entrance staff have been trained not to say anything to save anyone money. The individual entrance fee is $7. The annual pass is $20 and valid for up to 4 adults or the occupants of one non-commercial vehicle. However, the entrance is walk-in, so they have no idea if 8 adults came in a minivan or two cars, although I'm just saying that to indicate how stupid the policy is.

Walk across the GG Bridge, perhaps after reviewing the history of WWII's Pacific theater a little. When I do that, I always imagine what it must have been like for sailors when they came back from hell and saw the GG Bridge in their sights. It isn't too far from the Disney Museum.

Walk down Lombard Street, "The Crookedest Street in the World."

Make sure you visit the USS Pampanito when you're in Fisherman's Wharf. If you ride a cable car, plan on catching it from the end of the line because they get loaded to capacity and then can't stop en route.

Visit one of the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco. Unlike many cities, different collections are housed in different museums throughout The City. I've had the opportunity to travel, but I still think SF's Legion of Honor Museum's facility and grounds are the most beautiful in the world. If you're museumed out after the Disney Museum, you could still walk around a little. It, also, is near the GG Bridge.
