It is almost time for Brad Bird's Tomorrowland! I am going to a 7:00pm Thursday IMAX showing. Can't wait. Looks fantastic! It looks great and "one of our own" loved it and gave it a 4.5 out of 5 stars: http://blog.wdwinfo.com/2015/05/17/review-tomorrowland-perfectly-channels-walt-disneys-philosophy/ . I think its positivity and actually having ideas to discuss in a summer blockbuster has turned off some reviewers. And apparently it doesn't have a giant Marvel-like final battle. A number of reviewers love it, a number say it is fantastic but flawed.

It is at 67% Fresh on the Tomatometer when Maleficent was a splat at 49% but still made $750 Million!
The official consensus at Rotten Tomatoes says, "Critics Consensus: Ambitious and original enough to be largely forgiven its flaws, Tomorrowland adds another charming chapter to Disney's library of live-action adventures."

Everyone agrees that the visuals are amazing. Almost all agree the acting and characters are good. Many laud the fact that this is a summer blockbuster that is asking people to think. And it has one of the best female leads! Two actually. Pretty cool. If you are one of those that complain about lack of originality in movies. GO SEE IT!

These folks LOVED it:

"Part Jules Verne, part Apple Store, Bird’s vision of the future is everything you hoped you’d live long enough to see when you were a kid." "Indeed, if you’re willing to let a few things slide, this is one of the best family blockbusters in years. Clooney and Robertson (literally) soar, the madcap action always feels grounded and Bird’s world is bursting with visual invention. More importantly, it’s a wholly original sci-fi that manages to be both savvy and deeply uncynical, offering a bright, white alternative to the dusty, rusty dystopias that plague multiplex screens every summer. "

Empire gives it 4 out of 5 stars!

"'Effortful’, in the most positive sense of the word. Bird and Lindelof have thrown everything they have at this film and, aside from a pause for breath at the end, they’ve made something funny, surprising and packed full of wonder."

Four out of 5 stars from The List:
https://film.list.co.uk/article/70929-tomorrowland-a-world-beyond/
"Disney's futuristic family adventure is not just solid summer entertainment, but also one of the most forward-thinking films to come out of any major studio. While George Clooney may have been given top billing, he plays a gracious second fiddle to the film’s female stars Britt Robertson and Raffey Cassidy. That two young women should drive such a blockbuster is exciting enough, but that their characters are allowed to behave in a fashion traditionally associated with men makes it positively groundbreaking."

"In Robertson’s Casey, the pic also presents one of the year’s strongest female role models, a whip-smart dreamer far too enamored with scientific discovery to ever even consider worrying about romance or her looks."

I like this one from Indiewire that gives it a B+ and is pretty positive:

I just saw the movie last night (at a Chevrolet event) and loved it*! It was funny, yet raised a few philosophical questions for me to ponder today. Raffey Cassidy and Britt Robertson were especially great. I am going to buy the DVD (which is telling since I only have about 15 movies in my collection).

* Granted, I'm a pretty easy-going movie-watcher .. not that critical. I liked Maleficent, too, but not enough to warrant buying the DVD.

Hope you enjoy it, too :)

We're going Friday night, can't wait! We went to D23 2 years ago and went to the panel and through the booth display for it. Have been impatiently waiting since then...Only 2 more days....

I am also very excited to see it. There don't appear to be Thursday showings in my area so I'll be going Friday. I am counting down the minutes!

Already have my tickets for Thursday 7:00pm in York PA for an IMAX showing!!! Can't wait!

A couple more reviews:

Three Big Reasons Why Tomorrowland is Actually Great
Cinemablend: http://www.cinemablend.com/new/3-Big-Reasons-Why-Tomorrowland-Actually-Great-71541.html
1. It celebrates scholars, artists, and dreamers,
2. It is infused on every level with movie magic,
3. It's originality is refreshing and breathtaking,

Don't hate Tomorrowland for asking us all to be better.

Tomorrowland suggests today is worth fighting for. This short review gives a two nice lists; one on what works and one on what doesn't work.

20.5 hours to go...

Just saw it on an IMAX screen in York, PA. FANTASTIC! The jaded reviewers couldn't stand its positive message and the fact that the ending was a thinking person's ending. I thought it was great and amazing on an IMAX screen since it was filmed with the new IMAX camera.

The actors did a great job, and the imaginative story is great. Some of the action was typical Bird style and great. Go see it this weekend. I am so glad a movie aimed at kids is also a thinking persons movie with a positive message.

Wife and I are going again tomorrow.

Just saw it for the second time. Ignore the negative reviews this movie is awesome. It has some of the most amazing visual sequences you will ever see, great characters, and I love the ending. Second time I saw it in a regular, but good theater. If possible see it in IMAX. It is only 2D but absolutely gorgeous. If you go to a Regal theater and have or get a frequent users card (no cost), you get free Disney Tomorrowland pins.

The pins are really nice !!! Just got 3 of them

Saw it last night. Didn't like
It at all. The beginning and end were cute but that was about it for me. I found myself sitting in the theater thinking when is this over? lol I also noticed several people walking about of the theater. I love Disney, but this one just didn't do it for me

I really, really liked it. I've never been a rabid Disney fan; I'm just getting into it now while planning my first trip in 20 years. (Kids change EVERYTHING.)
With that said, this is Disney to me. The dreamers. The hope of something. Believing in imagination and the future. I feel like it hit the nail on the head. I so wish it was convenient to go to Regal theater, I'd love a pin! Or an IMAX theater, I bet it would be awesome. I didn't have anything I was interested in using for my avatar pic on here, but this did it for me. 24 hours later and I'm still thinking about some of the concepts.

The second time I watched Tomorrowland I couldn't help but think how much Disney would have loved this message and agreed. He was such an amazing optimist. It is so very believable that 1. He would be invited to an organization like Plus Ultra, and 2. He would definitely want to join!

I saw it today and thought it was great. I'm not sure how this would get bad reviews, but I really appreciated it and loved some of those Disney easter eggs. It's a great movie with a great message (especially regarding the dismantling of our space program!) and I hope it has an impact.

Caught a bunch of the Easter eggs today ! Great stuff !! Spotted around 6 ------ looked up some more online---
Really interesting stuff !!

We went Friday and really enjoyed it. I guess some of the naysayers are griping about the political "environmental" backstory ...quite frankly, the fact that we've been destroying the environment is pretty obvious -not sure why people would be so defensive about that message?

I think the only thing that I disliked about the movie was the speech by the Governor. It was overdone. I'm pretty sure that most of the audience already had a really good idea of what the movie was about at that point and it was just too much.

^ Which is pretty sad, as it was such a good movie. Actually, I rather liked Lone Ranger as well. The thing is though, for Disney, these are barely blips on the radar. This year alone they have Avengers money rolling in, not to mention Cinderella, TWO Pixar movies and some other little sci-fi movie coming out around Christmas that might make a few bucks. ;) It is too bad for Brad Bird and those who made this movie though. I for one certainly liked it!

EDIT: I hadn't clicked the link when I wrote the above, but they seem more concerned with trashing the movie for political reasons, and is not a box-office analytic site. Obviously that doesn't mean Tomorrowland isn't a bomb, but the article in that link is not the proof of it.
