Disneyland Hotel or Hotel Miracosta

Hello fellow TDR fans

this question goes out to those who have been/stayed at the resorts before.

we are planing a trip (no date) yet and can't make up our mind on what hotel.

Know that we want to stay at either the Disneyland Hotel or Hotel Miracosta.

which do you prefer?

what are the differences ....other than theme/decor?

would you rate both in the Deluxe label (if comparing to Disney World resort)
looks like they try to sell Hotel Miracost as their top tier property ...is that correct?

Question about Miracosta Hotel:
appears that Hotel Miracosta has the unique aspect of being one of the only Disney hotels inside the parks...and you can get a direct view into Tokyo DisneySea

what rooms at Hotel Miracosta have outdoor seating with view of the Harbour?
read a review somewhere (can't find it now) that they booked a Harbour View Room...but the balcony was "fake" (you did not have outdoor space) it's just a window that does not open fully
so wondering what room type you need to have outdoor space and setting that overlooks the water/park

Miracosta.

Theme and decor mostly covers it. The Miracosta is 'in' the Park (personally I think it's about as 'in' the park as Paris's Disneyland hotel which acts as the entrance). The rooms in the Miracosta are smaller and the hotel is older than the 2008 Disneyland Hotel which still looks spanking new. It also feels cosier with low corridors stretching quite a length. The Disneyland Hotel is cavernous.

I would rate these two hotels above any WDW Deluxe hotel. The Asian Disney hotels are just better. Same with the Hong Kong Disneyland Hotel which is perfection. The Miracosta is getting refurbished rooms at the moment and shall look lovely when completed and the the Disneyland Hotel rooms are spacious and luxurious with top quality decor. Yes, Miracosta is often considered the flagship hotel but I think that's changing as the Tokyo Disney Resort website are giving more ad space to the DLH. DLH also has recently refurbished 'character' rooms based on several film titles. I tend to see them as equals. Prices aren't that different between the two.

'direct' is a bit of a misnomer. Yes, you can get a very central view of Mediterranean Harbor from a select number of rooms but these are very pricey. Rooms here can go for up to US$800 or AUD$1000 per night. I've had a view of the harbor before and to be honest, I would be much happier with a view on the cheaper Venice side.

what rooms at Hotel Miracosta have outdoor seating with view of the Harbour?

I believe there are suites with balconies over the harbor.

Finally - booking either of these hotels is madness. You MUST book within several minutes of opening 6 months out. The hotels are always at capacity and will book up minutes after they open for bookings.

What time does booking a Disney hotel start? Like I know it is already June 3rd in Japan and the booking hasn't switched from Dec 2nd on their site yet so I didn't know if they had a certain time each day when the next date would appear. I want to book a character room at the Disneyland hotel for 5 days and I know will need to book exactly when the 6 month window opens at what ever time they load the new date

We actually did both so you can experience both hotels. It was easier to find availability for 2-3 nights at each than a 4-5 nights at one or the other. I actually liked Miracosta a lot better maybe because if you get any of the special rooms it comes with breakfast at Bellavista Lounge or room service (you decide when you check in) and access to the Salone dell'Amico lounge on the 5th floor. That is also where you check in and check out.

We stayed in a Terrace View Venican side and it had a view overlooking the canals and the Tower of Terror.

I loved the Disneyland Hotel, it was right up my street. We didn't stay in the Miracosta but when I saw our room and the Disneyland Hotel I knew it was the right choice for us. If you'd like to see some room pictures of the Disneyland hotel I posted a load here:

However you have to ask yourself would you rather be close to DisneySea or Disneyland because that will help you make up your mind too :)

Also do a search of Disneytouristblog (google it) as he's stayed in both and has made a good few comparisons too.

I stayed at both hotels on my trip to TDR. While both hotels are beautiful, and CMs are amazing at both... I think I liked the Disneyland Hotel best. The decor felt more Disney like to me, the beds were more comfortable, and the rooms were a bit bigger. Well, and it's a bit cheaper to stay there than at the Miracosta.
