WDW considering implementing a tiered ticket price system

As a local FP+ changed Disney from an all day destination to a quick 2-3 hour trip when we go. As has been said by many, a lot of attractions that shouldn't have lines do now, so many times we go and ride our 3 fast passes as quick as possible and leave. The only park we occasionally linger at is Epcot during festival times, as Test Track is our only must ride anyways, and Magic Kingdom if we can hit some things with lesser lines (typically IASM, POTC, and HM). Meanwhile, our trips to Universal or SeaWorld typically last through at least one meal, sometimes two.

The whole FP+ strategy is like some kind of computer science queueing theory project ... how do we spread people through the parks, get more people on Imagination, less people on Mine Train, more people into shops, fewer people scooting back to the hotel pool, get more business intelligence before we have to book staffing shifts, and so on.

It's debatable whether they have succeeded with any of these strategies except for the advance intelligence. Tricking first-time visitors into reserving a spot on Nemo and Friends and generating long standby lines on Spaceship Earth is hardly a viable business strategy IMHO.

I don't see how this accomplishes much at all so far. I see them as telling us to hurry up and ride our favorite rides and then go do something else. OK, I'll gladly go do something else but then why should I pay those inflated prices for a part-time visit? And why should I hang around long enough to eat your mostly mediocre food and shop in your carbon copy shops? It's all very puzzling.

The price increase% chart just blew my mind! I don't see us being able to do this!:

Wow if that price increase is accurate I'd think Disney would hemorrhage money
I am one who has no problems at all blowing lots of cash on upgrades and perks, but that is not justifiable. WDW is getting too cocky (and I can see why they are huge). They are basically saying we are so mighty we can do whatever we want. They would lose thousands from just us alone if this was implemented. We'd only hit MK for two days, we drastically reduce food and activity money. WDW would literally become a two day part of our trip and we never stay on site again. We'd likely spend 2 days MK, 3 days uni/IOA, and 2 days SW/DC. We like to do 10 days so we'd figure out other activities to full in. WDW is fun, but there is just way too much to do that my whole family is perfectly happy going elsewhere. People will still go, but I think their vacations will be cut and less will stay on site because they will be visiting other places in Orlando. Just such a disappointment if this goes through. AK, EP and HS just do not have enough to justify those costs.

Wdw is a one person managed company when it comes to decisions... Has been for 20 years. That's bob Iger. Thanks, Eisner.

Bob Iger can buy any island in the pacific he wants when he retires around age 60 and ride off...that is a short/medium term proposition right now. He's supposed to retire in "3 years"...it will be shorter if the stock slides...longer if they continue to gain wealth and gravitas.

Where ima goin?
The price Increases - some shielded by "plans" like ddp, others just straight increases - since 2005 have been unprecedented. Prices have Always gone up...but not in a "set in stone" plan for this length of time. They raised prices during the greatest economic disaster
Since the Great Depression...you'd have to go back to the collapse of the colonial Spanish empire before that to find something close.

That is almost impossible to understand...unless the psychology is this:

Somewhere very quickly after Iger took the pictures of Jane Eisner and Barry Diller down from his office wall...a meeting was had... Went like this:

Disneyland would be retrofitted/revamped to correct California adventure... Analysis said there was no other way. Disney "good will" would be rewarded tenfold and new profit would flow domestically...
Check - missions accomplished

Wdw - which had seen 10x the attention/investment over 30 year than any other Disney park EVER will...was still a largely accessible site for the vast majority of the most densely populated area on earth WITH MONEY - the eastern us seaboard, Midwest, and eastern Canada...but was not fully maximized for profit...

1. Secure longterm guaranteed revenue: four seasons, golden oak, flamingo crossing, massive DVC, Disney springs, dcl expansion...
Check...mission accomplished. Not without bumps... But getting there.
2. Price everything upwards to see how far the market will hold it...

Now this is where it gets interesting... Because it should have snapped already... And I bet CMB and the board are laughing/smoking stogies watching.

I don't honestly believe they ever thought that the paying public would swallow the increase relative to the investment even to now... Let alone continue as it looks to me the case. I'm sure there has been a new investment/construction plan in place for when the backlash set in...it just hasn't been needed.

People are talking on these boards as we speak about how to get a reservation for a panera issue breakfast for $20 a piece...mind boggling. They're waiting 2 hours for a really expensive junior coaster and 90 minutes for two 8-10 year old simulator/shooter rides.

This tiering is just uping the ante on the price profit/strategy that has been around for a decade...their boldest move yet...if it happens.

If this ends up to be what happens, this will be it for us.

I get the tiered pricing, I understand why they do it. Before we had kids we used to go in the "off times", and I would love to pay less than peak. The problem is, you aren't going to be paying less, its just a flat out massive increase in prices for the majority of people.

I have a 2 year old and a 3 year old, we are about to hit our prime disney years with them, but if this happens, sorry kids, we won't be visiting WDW.

In fact, my wife went so far this morning as to say "no more disney movies or toys in our house."

Our boys watch mainly Disney Jr and the majority of their toys are Disney toys. I'm just flat out tired of the Iger grap, Bob Iger has treated his customers at WDW like complete crap and continues to dive deeper and deeper into their pockets.

Enough is enough.

The Hollywood studios redo is going to happen...and I wouldn't be surprised if something is coming to Disney land as well...

Why? That's the "bone" they'll throw back. To get the new pricing.

Bravo, good sir. If we can condense this message down into 4-5 sentences, I'll split the cost of a billboard on I4 with ya. :sail:

Now excuse me while I finish plotting out which day I can stop to visit my good pal Sonny Eclipse for a $15 Astro Burger on my upcoming trip.

Does the timing line up though? Could it possibly? It sounds like the tiered prices will be slipped in as soon as possible but this company is now officially the world's slowest developer of amusement rides.

Maybe if they build a quickie off-the-shelf coaster and call it "Pod Racer" or clone Midway Mania and call it "The Battle of Endor" ... and quickly re-tool Backstage Eats as The Cantina with the usual burgers plus blue milk going at the butterbeer prices ...

I can't see them "throwing back" anything more elaborate than that.

Of course...you change the prices just before or after you announce the redo...

The net gain...especially on tbe MULTIDAY TICKET INCREASES... Where they are basically eliminating the discounts compared to their longstanding policies...

Will pay for anything they build long before the gates fly open.

Didnt you hear? They canned him... Apparently he asked for a $0.30 an hour raise and his benefits costs "just became too high"

He's over standing in line at an unemployment office on OBT...

I'd take any pricing charts with a grain of salt at this point. While probable, the mere idea of a tiered pricing model is still only a possibility being tossed around in a survey. The chart from Touring Plans assumes the 5-45% discount for 2-10 day tickets from the survey and starts from the 1-day ticket price for Magic Kingdom. Disney's current multi-day tickets do not appear to use the 1-day Magic Kingdom price as a starting point -- current 2-day is closer to an average of MK and Other -- and are much more steeply discounted as it works toward 10 days (~65%).

Besides the relatively modest increase in pricing over the past few years, a price increase of >50% for longer stays during non-peak periods doesn't appear to make much sense under the current pricing model or the tiered pricing model.

Some don't have a choice to go on a bronze time frame
I can also only go when it is silver and gold

1) Alas, Disney does not consider this THEIR problem.
2) When the guest attends is the GUEST's decision.
3) They simply want more money due to high-demand periods, when people will pay the bigger bucks.
4) The Law of Supply And Demand at its best (or maybe, its worst).

I'm not sure yet if I dislike this idea... even if it costs me.

The parks are STUFFED. I would pay more just to get some people OUT of them.

I heard that Sonny E. was asked to compile and edit the digital music loop that replaced him, with a good attitude, if he wanted any severance pay ...
