How do you measure how far you've walked around DLP?

Hi all,

I've seen a couple of posts recently where people have mentioned how far they've walked around the parks and this is something that I always wonder whenever we get back to the hotel after a tiring day!

How do you actually measure how far you've walked?

I have an app on my phone that counts my steps, Km, calories used etc - like a pedometre

I have the Moves app on my iPhone it's free

When me, Dad, and Mom are at WDW my Mom has this thing that goes around her wrist that measures how man steps, calories burned, and stuff like that. Dad and I don't do it, but she does. I also think the thing around her wrist is linked to some app on her phone, but I am not totally for sure about that.

It's probably a FitBit. Which is what I just got a month ago. I'll be using it to track my steps. It has a smartphone app.

My step counter on my phone (s health is the app) told me I did 9 miles, 11 miles x2 13 miles x2 and 14 miles on my trip in March! Didn't counteract all the rich food though! But then I do tend to walk 3 miles most weekday mornings so it wasn't a huge stretch. Blister plasters on my heels worked a treat

I have had a Fitbit for about 2months and I love it!!! It links to an app.
When I used my phone to count steps it drained the battery too fast.

Couldn't believe how far we walked last week!!! Made me feel much less guilty tucking into a burger in Annette's!

When I last went I used a pedometer as I don't have an iphone.

I've the apple watch so will be using that in August. I've never thought about it until last October when a foot problem made walking excruciating, even the walk from the shuttle bus to the park gates was a chore. Hoping for a much better experience this summer

Thanks for your replies everyone.

My phone battery doesn't last much longer than a few hours these days if I'm actually using my phone so I guess I won't be able to use any apps to measure how far we walk next time we're there.

Does the fitbit need to connect to your phone or can it collect the data itself?

The Fitbit stores the data internally and then connects to the phone to transfer the data for review. You can set the phone app to constantly sync or you can sync on command. Sync on command is what you'd want to do to save battery life on your phone. The fitbit does need a usb port/ usb plug in-charger in order to recharge (it comes with a special USB cable).

I might have to find out a bit more about these then and see how much they cost. It all sounds very interesting!

I believe it's $89.99 for the cheapest unit up to $249.99. just got to Fitbit.com

Well I had a look and it seems the cheapest fitbit is about £50 in the UK.

It seems a bit of and expensive purchase just to satisfy my curiosity of knowing how far we trek on a day in the parks!

This is probably a stupid question but what makes them more accurate than one of those old pedometer things you can pick up very cheaply? I know the old type aren't very accurate for counting steps - just shaking the one I had increased the number of 'steps' it counted!
