Why would anyone go to a Johnny Rockets on a cruise ship?

I'm not getting the benefits of paying money to eat mediocre fast food when I can eat much better food elsewhere on the boat for free?

What am I missing? Their burgers are pretty good, but their fries are among the worst in the industry. Plus it isn't free.

I guess if you have little kids it might be nice for one meal to ease the pain of all of the fancy stuff, but I think I would still just get the free stuff by the pool.

I can always load up on burgers and fries before or after the trip.

That was our reaction as well when we sailed on the Oasis. We didn't partake since we have Johnny Rockets nearby. I'm guessing that some of the folks eating at JR on board ship don't have one near them.

For the record, we love Johnny Rocket's burgers, shakes and fries. At least on land.

What if you don't feel that the other food is much better? What if you just WANT something from JR? It's like $6 for a sitting, isn't it? Not for a burger, but for what you want while you're there? (maybe milkshakes are extra beyond that)

We are going on a week long cruise next year. We will let our teens eat there 1X alone b/c I think they will have fun and it will break up the cruise. Otherwise, we also just get the free burgers by the pool.

If you go on a sailing out of China, you will be happy that JR is there. The food in Windjammer is very much catered to the mainland Chinese on those cruises, and it was very, very nice to get away from the crowd and get some peace and comfort. Also, the milkshakes were great for the kids. We don't have JR in Hawaii, either. I could also ask why would anyone go to Cartier on a cruise ship? Or many other places that I find unnecessary. But I think they are just trying to provide variety and numerous opportunities for people to have a good time.

The one benefit I can see is that it is a nice location on the Boardwalk for breakfast (which of course is no extra charge). But I suppose that is more about the location and less about what restaurant it is.

What if they have never been to one or live in a country where they don't have them? I had never even heard of them until I moved to Arizona a year ago.

Not all cruisers are Americans.

EXACTLY

I have not been on a cruise BUT when I go to LA I always try to find a Johnny Rockets. We dont have them in Ireland, and to me its part of my American experience. The cruises are not exclusively for Americans so dont just assume that shops and restaurants which are local to you in your State or which are found across America are available in other countries. The world does not start at New York and end at LA!!

oh you poor thing. you are going about it all wrong. when in LA you need to be eating at In N Out.

JR is not the best burger we have either. 5 Guys is way better( and their fries..excuse me, chips, cannot be beat.

We went to JR when we cruised back in 2008. For me it was purely a nostalgia thing; I grew up in Edmonton and there was a JR at West Edmonton Mall. I went there all the time.

As others have mentioned, there is no charge for breakfast and my family and I loved JR for breakfast on the Oasis. The food was better than the buffets, there was never a crowd, and the service was quick (which is important when you have two young boys). Plus the location on the Boardwalk was nice.

I agree that I don't think I would pay for it, but the change of pace was very nice for breakfast.

Some passengers appreciate familiarity. Apparently enough of them do for RCL to put these restaurants on their ships.

The problem with Five Guys is if you have a peanut sensitivity they are 100% off-limits.

As others have said, not everywhere has them so for some it is a novelty. It all depends on your background. Example: I cannot imagine going to a Broadway show on a ship when I can go any night of the week and see them ON Broadway. But for others it's a big deal - so if I'm ever on a ship with one I can just relax and not worry about the ticket scramble and do something else at that time.

On our last Allure cruise, we ate at Johnny Rockets twice. Once for breakfast and once in the evening. Our trip included teen and pre-teen girls who were tiring a bit of the formal dining. Too much trying to be on their "best behavior" I think. They appreciated a down night with less adventuresome food that they were familiar with. It was a great choice for us!

IIRC it's pretty standard breakfast options, although I think there was one option for a hamburger patty instead of your usual pork-based protein.

The breakfast menu is pretty basic. From what I recall, it has pancakes, eggs any way, omelettes, and a loaded potatoes or something like that. They have standard sides like bacon, sausage, english muffin and toast, plus some options like cereal.

We didn't think of it as eating at JR, it just felt like having a nice quiet breakfast at a seaside diner.

We went to JR last night (currently on the Oasis, sea day). quite simply, we wanted a burger and fries without a lot of fuss. didn't feel like going to the Windjammer, as it was busy and a bit noisy, definitely didn't want to go to main dining.

It was great, milkshake was good, food was piping hot, which let's face it sometimes at a buffet, the food is warm at best.

So i spent an extra 15 bucks, lol not a big savings in the world of cruising

I have been to a few JRs on land and I have to say the ones on the ships are a lot better. Most of the time on land, we find the burgers to be beyond greasey. We have never had this issue on the ships. They keep the fries and onion rings flowing. Plus it's a decent place to sit in the AC, have a good meal and get away from the crowds for a little while.

I also don't understand the whole "it isn't free" argument. You can say that to argue making any purchase on a cruise ship. Why buy soda, beer, cocktails (which, by the way, JR costs less than one of these in most cases), coffee drinks, etc. when there are beverages already included? Why buy B&J when there is soft serve included? Why go to the spa when you can have someone in your party rub your back? Why buy pictures when you know what you look like? Why do an excursion when you can watch a video of someone else's experience? etc. etc. etc. Just my opinion anyway.
