Disney Gift Cards purchased in Canada

While shopping today I noticed my local Atlantic Superstore was selling Disney gift cards. I thought this would be a great gift for our daughter to use on our trip this fall. Then I occurred to me that I'd be buying these in Canadian dollars for use at the parks to use on purchases in US dollars, would they even work? Will the automatically give the exchange rate so a $50 CDN card here would be about $40 US there or would it still be $50 only in USD.

Just wondering how they worked, thought some of the Canadians out there my have bought cards here for use in the States and how it turned out for them.

I don't believe they'll work at WDW. Only gift cards bought in the US will work. The ones bought in Canada can only be used at the Disney stores here. They won't even allow you to exchange the value from CDN to USD. I've never tried it, but have read about it a few times over the years. If anyone's had any success with CDN gift cards, I'd also be interested in knowing about it.

Can I ask what city? I would love to see them in my store!! It would be worth calling WDW and checking. I ordered a Disney Gift card with my very Canadian Scotiabank Rewards Points and when I was at the parks it was par or usd..I had the full value.

I was shopping at the Atlantic Superstore in Summerside PEI, they were in the gift card display. I've seen these in every Superstore I've shopped in in the region over the last few years.

Hmm... I've never seen a Disney card! That's something to check out! There may be information on the back of the card. I might need to check out the Superstore in town (Charlottetown) to see. :) Thanks.

I haven't even seen a Disney card at our local Disney store. Hmm, interesting. I'll check out the GC rack at Superstore when I have the chance.

I don't know if you can use them in the parks. The Disney Stores sell gift cards here, but cards are only good for the stores. I was told they won't work in the parks.

Perhaps I'll buy a cheap one $10-$25 range if the store has that small and give it a try. I'm not sure where the nearest Disney store might be if it doesn't work in the parks to make use of it. I thought the last time I was in Moncton the one there had closed, but I must admit it been a few years since I stopped in Moncton usually just drive past it.

I think you can just look on the back of the card and it will tell you where it's valid with out having to bother waiting until you are at WDW to find out if you can use it or not.

The nearest Disney store is in Ontario. There are none closer, nothing in Halifax or Moncton anymore. So sad!

There's probably a phone number on the back of the card too that you could call and ask. Just take a quick picture of the back of the card and call when you get home before buying so you know for sure.

When I asked at the Edmonton Disney Store a while back if the gift cards would work in the parks, they said no, because of the currency differences. One CM mentioned it was a legal issue as well to prevent money laundering with gift cards.

Gift Cards bought in Canada won't work in the US/WDW sadly.
