Hello,

I just had surgery and will be joining my husband next week for a conference at WDW. We will be staying at YC where the conference is. We would like to go to Via Napoli one day for a meal, but I don't know if I will be up to walking that far yet. I'm hesitant to rent a scooter from an outside company because I don't know for sure if I will need one. I keep reading that the Disney Scooters often are 'sold out' by late morning though. Does anyone have any experience with renting a scooter at Epcot, or any park, late in the day? We have a 3pm lunch ADR for Monday June 1st, so we would probably be wanting to rent a Scooter at the IG around 2:30.

Thanks!

Prior to purchasing my own ECV, or even renting off-site, I did try to rent WDW ECV's park-to-park on one trip. I foolishly believed that everyone was exaggerating, and that if we had to wait for one, it wouldn't be *that* long... And I probably wouldn't need one, so it didn't really matter.

After sitting at Epcot for 90 minutes, waiting for a scooter, I called a local vendor, and they dropped one off curbside at Epcot. I used it for the remainder of the trip.

At the start of that trip, I thought that I didn't need it. I thought all sorts of things - that people would judge me. That it meant I was weak, or a failure somehow. That my family would hate it.

I was wrong. So wrong.

I did need it. No one judged me - there are so many other people using assistive devices of all kinds at WDW that no one really cares. And my family - turned out they were secretly relieved, because I had been holding them back. On the scooter, I could keep up with them, and we could go until they didn't want to anymore.

Rent an ECV; you have a valid reason to. You are still recovering from surgery - and regardless of what the procedure was, if you are still healing, you have a vested interest in not placing an additional strain on your body. You are using it as a tool - nothing more. Just as you would never deny someone the use of a hearing aid to hear, or glasses to be able to see... no one will think anything of you using an ECV post-surgery. It's just a tool to do what you want to do, nothing more.

Remember - it's super easy to walk 8 - even 10 - miles PER DAY at WDW. That can wear a person out, even if they are young and physically fit! Consider using the scooter, and have a great time while you enjoy WDW and continue to recover from surgery! :)

Wishing you a Magical time at WDW! :)

Thanks for the info! I'm just really hesitant to spend all that money on a length of stay scooter rental when I feel the only time I MIGHT need it is for lunch in Epcot. We won't be going to the parks other than this one meal. My doctor told me to take off three weeks, and the day in question is only two days before I go back to work. I plan to just relax in the room and at the pool. I have been making trips to Target, Grocery store, etc and am pretty tired afterwards, but I'm trying to build my stamina back up!

You can usually get a wheelchair if your husband is willing to push it...they don't usually rent their entire stock of those.

I agree with the wheelchair idea, too and it's a cheaper way to go and normally they don't sell out.

Keep in mind that most off site scooter vendors are at about half price compared to the Disney park scooters.

You may find yourself more willing to do more at the park on a scooter and you can enjoy the parks, a little. You could do many of the shows without ever leaving your scooter, for example. You could enjoy the parades and fireworks without ever leaving your scooter. Personally, I would enjoy the parks and I wouldn't want to spend all my time at a pool. You could do that at home.

I believe most outside renters of scooters require a 3-day minimum.

Back to your original question and you may be okay at the time you are going to catch a park scooter rental mid-day because of the time of year you will be there. If not, then your back up plan would be a wheelchair. Please note, the International Gateway
