It was all set try to get a grandvilla at OKW... Now family would like either AKL or BLT. There will be no grandvilla staying there too many points. So I have a problem., we do not own at BLT. Seven moths out in June for a 2 bedroom and studio....not sure if this is possible. Or AKL. But then. Which one to pick. My mother is handicapped. So I don't want something a mile from the entrance,.....or bus stop.... Thoughts?... Family says it's up to me...they are my points, but throw in input......sigh

BLT would be less spread out, but harder to get. The studio is going to go first, so book that room then quickly get the 2b.

I'd try for BLT first, then if that doesn't work book AKL. For BLT, expect lake view rooms. AKV plan for the more expensive savannah rooms, but expect standard.

What I tell people is:

If your family wants you to go on a vacation and they are willing to pay for it, go and have a great time on them. If you are paying for the trip you go where and when you choose to go.
You are treating them, you make the choice, and go with it. They are your points, use them how you want.

I completely agree

If you can still get the grand villa at OKW, go for that. Unless you've done research that shows there aren't any on the first floor OR in a building with an elevator.

This happened to my SIL's family. They didn't decide until 9 months out bc one sibling didn't feel the need to give them dates soon.

Lo and behold, they decided first week of November... Um, jersey week. Suffice it to say, they couldn't get into their home resort-- BWV and BCV (food n wine plus jersey week plus marathon weekend). Then they started fighting about where to stay at the 7 mo mark. Not pretty.

Fast forward... Their family gets in a huge fight. Her brother backs out (wife a public school teacher, thus the jersey week request). They change their dates and are going in October at a SSR GV. Nothing else was available.

Good luck. I'm glad I don't share with family!!

I spoke to everyone....Akl Jambo house it will be. I am going to try to snag a value studio.....at 11 months. And at 7 months transfer from another home resort for a 2 bedroom. June 1st of 2016 can't get here fast enough. I pointed out I am flipping the bill so to speak for the room. So in the end my choice

I have a trip this coming august with 18 people, This is part of the letter I sent to them on Dec 1st

Dear family,
Hooray we are going to disneyworld. the dates are 8/26 until 6/5. Since Barbara and I have been elected/volunteered to work with the TA we'd need your assistance. We are offering this service because we are annual visitors to disneyworld and kinda have an idea on how to make this the best family reunion possible

(this was bolded, in caps and big)

We are not responsible for your personal happiness and we are not getting paid to do this. . WE STRONGLY SUGGEST YOU LOOK UP SOME INFORMATION.
In january we will hosted a family dinner to decide on two resorts, one value and one deluxe.
ONCE decided there will be no CHANGES.
If you don't show up... tough
If you haven't read up on a thing about disney... to bad.

lol, I know this sounds harsh op, but trying to get everyone to agree on every thing will drive you crazy. don't even start.

There is only one bedroom on the main floor of the GV at OKW. And there are limited HCA GV at OKW. If your mother is unable to do stairs, you probably want to leave OKW GV off the list.

Congrats in agreeing. I don't think ppl realize how much work it is to coordinate a family trip.... It's not just ME info, mydisneyexperience, dining... It's stressful coordinating the trip itself!! Booking the venue.

I hope you have tons of fun!! You deserve it!

YAy you got a resort picked, are they OK with Kidani if Jambo is full? BTW while not impossible chances are slim on a value studio. I am crossing my fingers you get it but be prepared for it to be N/A. I was able to snag a value 1 br for 4 whole days and you;d have thought I won the lottery a couple years ago. I must have lucked out on a cancellation because it had been N/A previously.

I'm glad you picked the resort you wanted and hope you get the rooms you need. As I said earlier I think the owner of the points should make the decision but I also understand about making family happy. Trouble is that most non-DVC people don't realize how incredibly difficult it can be to get certain resorts at 7 months.

The last 2 times we treated one of my daughters and her husband we were able to move from our home resort (BLT) to BCV and BWV. This year I suggested we move from BLT to a grand villa at OKW but she doesn't want to stay there so we are staying put at BLT. After that the next trip with our other 2 daughters and their families will be at AKV in May or June 2016. We are all in agreement.

I agree. Who is financing the trip? They choose . . . period.

as far as financing the trip......my husband and I are taking care of the room and our family AP. my parents are paying for airfare. My brother is paying for the food

Well then I can fully understand why they should have a say in the decision. Very generous of them indeed. :)

Have a wonderful trip!

AbsoLUTEly agree with the above!!! I've been a member over 20 years and being a bit OCD and a people please I have knocked myself out one too many times. The Good Book says to be a CHEERFUL giver, and by the time our large brood had waffled all over the place with my original plans, I can tell you I haven't always been so cheerful. Shame on me for trying the impossible….to make everyone happy.

For the last 3 years I have secured a week in a GV for our large blended brood at 11 mos. out. One year I did secure a couple of nights in a GV at Kidani/Savannah view which we loved, but the points were a chunk higher than my beloved OKW. Last year my sweet but unthinking step-daughter nearly drove me batty with her changes to my plans. Cost me a ton of time and not a small amount of money to try and make things work out for her and her last minute changes. This along with her changes to what I made sure to outline as an "I can't change this once it's done" deal on an exotic trip and I'm done being the crazy planner. From now on, I will consider what would work best for the whole brood, as much as possible, reserve it and let it be known that THIS IS IT. Hope you can come, but if not, we'll miss you! :rolleyes1
