Best One Bedroom Option

After a great weekend in a one bedroom timeshare (non-Disney) this past weekend, I am wondering about the DVC one bedrooms. It would be me, DH, DD5 and DS2. Having a seperate room for the kids to nap was great and the in suite W/D was wonderful.

Where do you get the best bang for your buck when it comes to 1 bedroom villas? I like the idea of VWL but I'd love to hear options!

ETA: I would be ok without the washer/dryer at AoA or Swan/Dolphin - if you can convince me its better. ;)

TIA!

OKW has the biggest one bedroom rooms. It's our home DVC resort. Quiet nice good bus service. Even though it's two of us now we cannot go back to a studio. Just live the space room and whirlpool bath.

Your only concern with OKW might be the lack of elevators. Only three buildings have elevators and they are usually reserved for medical needs. If you are on a second or third floor, you'll be hauling a stroller up and down the stairs.

But OKW has the most room and the best porch of all the Disney resorts. Bus transportation is good as well. The sandcastle slide pool is a favorite of many kids. But SSR also has fun pools; in fact, three of them - the Springs, the Grandstand and the Paddock.

The one bedroom at BWV is our favorite. It has a complete kitchen and washer /dryer in each room, great for longer stays.

We've done 1-bedrooms at AKV, BCV and BWV (plus a 2-bedroom at WLV). I really liked them all, but loved BCV. The location can't be beat. It's steps from EP, and is very close to the QS and a quiet pool. I found it to be very comfortable and tranquil, yet the resort itself was really lively and fun!

the only thing that doesn't have the laundry is the studios.
all the 1-bedroom dvc have a laundry and the bed is a King.

blt and AKV have an extra bathroom so two instead of 1.

OKW, BLT and AKV also have besides the sofa bed (queen), a chair bed (twin).

OKW and BLT are both pretty big.

for views both are also nice - OKW is water, golf or woods

BLT is lake, MK, or CR area (which is also lake)

with BLT you can walk to MK or take the monorail (you have to change at TTC) to EPcot.

with OKW you can walk, boat, bus to DD.

AKV you can't walk to anything - but looking at the animals and entertainment make up for that.

Another vote here for OKW. The rooms are huge. The grounds are always beautiful and the bus service is very good. Also, Olivia's is good quality food at a decent price which is nice.

Thanks for the OKW info. It looks like a good option - big rooms, fun pool, onsite dining options. My biggest worry is transportation. With little ones, taking a long bus ride back for an afternoon nap doesn't sound fun. How fast is the bus service?

I prefer the 1 bedrooms at AKL Kidani or BLT b/c they have 2 full bathrooms

I love two bathrooms - sounds really convenient!

Is AKL (either location) as far away as people say? I've seen some complain about the distance and others say it's not that bad. For afternoon naps, how convenient is it?

I've always loved the look of the BC. I've read that the rooms are kind of small. Did you think that was true?

Thanks for all the pros/cons! BLT sounds perfect - close to MK, monorail ride from Epcot, and bigger rooms. I'm thinking I'll have to book at the 11 month window for that one. To be honest, I'm not sure I can nail down my reservations that far out. Of course, that's a problem for all the locations, not just BLT.

all the monorail resorts are in demand. although since BLT is the biggest (has the most villas) of the 3 DVC - you probably have more of a chance with it then Polyn, or VGF.

studios and 2-bedrooms go fast (more in demand) than the 1-bedroom.

Okw is lower cost so best vale. Location is perfect for bus time from all parks, very central except for AK. The stop is usually the closest at the parks too.

Have you considered a cabin at Fort Wilderness.? Great location, boat to MK, nightly movies, fireworks on the beach. So quiet, since you're in a standalone building, you don't hear running in the hallway, running bathtubs or flushing toilets. It's so peaceful we love it.

We've stayed at AKL Kidani twice and we took a nap every day. I don't think it's too far. We are heat wimps, and we always take a break and cool off. We would probably do that without kids. I'm a teacher, so I have to go in summer. School breaks would not be relaxing for me. Plus, my husband loves Star Wars, so early June it is. We stay as late as we can manage after dark. Sometimes that meant my youngest was asleep in the stroller. You do have to take the child out of the stroller to get on the bus, but we managed with two adults.

OKW and no elevators!! Really. If there was only two levels, I could possibly see, but three and no elevator. Absurd!

Yea okw when it added on finally saw the light - so 62, 63, and 64 have elevators - but are hard to get. I have never stayed in any of these buildings.

that say old and fat - so taking the steps is good for me.
