Which Water Park?

We are going for 2 days before our cruise and would love to take my daughter for the first time to one of the water parks. She is 8 and loves the water. We are also looking for which one wil have a good spot where she might be able to do a few slides are her own while we relax a little. So a nice park with a good kid area for a little bit older kids. Love to hear your thoughts. Thanks

I think blizzard beach is better for kids that age. But the park is big... Both of them are. Apart from the ski patrol area (good for her age) I wouldn't be letting her do much alone.

Blizzard Beach has a better wave pool for kids. The wave pool at Typhoon Lagoon is a little rough; it generates six foot waves every 90 seconds. The one at BB is much gentler.

I would also agree that you probably should keep an eye on an eight year old. She could easily get lost in that place.

Typhoon lagoon only has a kid area for babies and toddlers, but Blizzard Beach has the ski patrol area for older kids where she should be fine to run around on her own provided she's a good swimmer. There are a few small slides, the iceberg walk, zip line, etc.

I gotta disagree, I would reccomend Typhoon Lagoon over Blizzard Beach. That way pool is a blast, and they have a better designated child area in my opinion. I think the slides at BB are more intimidaing to children, I'd say they're more for teens and young adults. And the water coaster at Typhoon Lagoon is not to be missed. Nothing like it.

Check out YouTube for videos on each. We watched a bunch and let the kids (6&8) pick. For some reason we did the same for our resort (but were given choices for this). They chose blizzard beach & poly over wilderness lodge & beach club.

Do you have kids?

1) The wave pool is too rough for many kids, unless they are VERY good swimmers. I agree with you that it's a blast though.
2) The children's area at TL will probably only hold the interest of a 3-4yo at most. My 5yo was bored.
3) The water coaster has a minimum height requirement of 48"

BB. Don't even think about it. The Wave pool at TL knocks you on your rear. At least at BB you can use a tube to float and there's a nice kid area.

Watching the YouTube videos is a great idea. We went to both parks 2 years ago with kids (10, 12, 13, 14 and 15), who are all good swimmers and my husband and I did not relax for five minutes either time. The parks are huge and crowded. We loved them but it was not a time to chill. We saved that for the resort pool.

My DD, then 8, got very bad scrapes on her knees and hip after being knocked down by the wave at Typhoon Lagoon. The First Aid cast member told me it happens a lot with younger/smaller kids in that wave pool. I have not been back since and my DD refuses to go back, even though she is now 14. I strongly think Blizzard Beach is better for a child that age.

Blizzard Beach definitely! I personally much prefer the theming of the park, and the slides etc. are mostly a lot more kid friendly (apart from Summit Plummet!!!). Don't get me wrong, I like Typhoon Lagoon too - it certainly has its elements that are amazing (such as the water rollercoaster). If you can, go to both, and see which you prefer. The swimming with the fish at TL is another great experience.

8 should be big enough to ride Crushin Gusher & do Shark Reef, but I'd still probably pick BB. There's really very few places to "sit & watch" your kids in either park aside from the "kiddie" areas. But, the Purple Slope & Green Slope rides at BB would be your best bet for that IMO. Otherwise, you're going to need to get wet with her :)

I have been to both Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon. I am 13 now, but the last time I went to Blizzard Beach I was 8 like your daughters age and I loved all the slides. It was a lot of fun. I would take her to Blizzard Beach for sure.
