Central Europe, here we come!

Counting down the days until our Central Europe Adventure! I've read some of the trip reports briefly, because I don't want to spoil any of the surprises, but, if anyone whos's taken the trip wants to chime in with advice, I'd be very grateful! We are spend two pre-nights in Prague.

Clothes, amount of pocket currency needed where credit cards aren't accepted, MUST sees, things to avoid, things you WISHED you had done or had NOT done...... That sort of thing. ;-).

This is our third ABD, so we do know the basics! Hoping we meet a nice group of travelers! Our past two trips have blessed us with life long friends! Two sets of friends even traveled to share DD's college graduation last week!

We did a Segway tour of Prague and LOVED it. It was a great way to see the city, the guide was full of information (and a great photographer) and a lot of fun (Prague Segway Tours). We also went to the Petrin Tower on our own for the views (took the streetcar there -- it was very easy).

There were a lot of little shops that sold nice Christmas ornaments. Get some when you see them. Some of the shops are hard to find again and your time will be limited (there is just sooo much to do).

I'd also recommend doing a tour of the Jewish Quarter on your own. I don't think the Disney tour covered much ground there and it is very worthwhile seeing. Of particular interest to us was the Jewish Cemetery (we went through with a private guide), the memorial to those who lost their lives in the holocaust and the inside the oldest working synagogue in Europe (fascinating). We bought the multi-attraction pass which gave us access to everything in the quarter.

There is a market by the river that locals frequent that cooks fresh fish for you on an open grill (it's an easy bus ride from the main area of town). The squid was TDF! We also picked up fresh fruits for snacks.

Try to visit a beer garden for a beer (or cooler) and sausage. I don't normally eat sausage, but I tried one and it was out of this world! We went to the one by the aforementioned market, high up on a hill in a huge park. The views of the city were amazing and there were ruins of an ancient church.

Prague is pretty inexpensive relative to Vienna, so it's a great city to purchase souvenirs, because believe me they get much more expensive as you continue your trip!

HAVE FUN and take lots of pictures! It is a great tour.

Prague is an awesome city! Like the PP said, it is inexpensive to some other European countries. I would suggest climbing the towers and waiting for the hourly chime of the Astronomical Clock. I don't know how much time ABD spends in the Little Quarter but that's a good one to spend more time in. If you are into churches, there are numerous ones you can visit. If you like souvenirs, there are great shops in the Old Square. The Czech Republic has Czech garnets (choose the really dark red ones) and also their Bohemian crystal. Most shops outside Prague will not ship their products overseas, so just a note if you are interested.

Great suggestions! Keep them coming!

I especially want to go to Our Lady Victorious Church to see the statue of the Infant of Prague.

Looking forward to hearing about your trip! You guys are going to have such a great time!
