Discount updates in park

No. I should have been more clear. Sorry. They would not give discount on merchandise in WWOHP but did give the AAA discount at Leaky Caldron in Diagon Alley by just showing AAA card only. I was surprised.

Other threads have been discussing the changes to the AAA discount, which went into effect on January 1, 2015, but are just now starting to be enforced everywhere in the parks. I wouldn't be surprised if some cast members haven't heard about the changes yet, or if some of them just don't feel like asking for your ticket voucher. You're not supposed to get the AAA discount at Leaky Cauldron, but you might. Also, another guest tomorrow might not get the discount at Leaky Cauldron, but might get it somewhere else.

So, feel free to flash that AAA card anywhere at UO, but please don't be surprised or upset with the employees who are enforcing the rules and just doing their jobs.

Are AAA discounts given at restaurants in City Walk? What about at the restaurants at the on-site hotels? Thanks.

I can't remember any food place denying my AAA card (can't use it at the carts though.)

We even got AAA discount on Butterbeers, because we bought them in the Hog's Head instead of the cart.

I did get discount with AAA at leaky Caldron the other day. Then today they did not want to give me discount at Three broomsticks with AAA but, did give AP discount. Places on city walk with AAA discounts are Starbucks, Cold Stone creamery, Pat O'Brian's, Bob Marley's, Magaritaville, Antojito's, Emeril's, Vivo Italian Kitchen, Red Oven pizza, Cinnabon, Bread box, Hot Dog Hall of Fame, hope this helps.

if you see the AAA emblem in the store window, you know they accept AAA for a discount.
some places will have it displayed, some don't.

I don't know if it's change since January when I went but I also got AAA discount at Cowfish and Menchies in Citywalk.

Just got back. Here's what happened to me: At the shops, it was pretty consistent: American Express, you needed to spend $50 or more. At the restaurants, it was all over the place. At Tcoup Chop, no American Express, but they took AAA, I started to dig through my purse to find my card, but the waiter said not to bother, he'd take it off. Later, I realized I had left my card at home. At the Hard Rock, they said AAA, but that they had to have the card to "swipe." At Three Broomsticks, they said I had to have the American Express App as well as use the card -- the actual App from American Express. At Mythos I was told no, you need a screen shot of the American Express benefits from the Universal site and use the card -- that they had actually researched it and everyone else was wrong. At Louie's Italian Restaurant, I was told, "don't be ridiculous, you don't need the app, just the American Express card." So, it's all over the place. Obviously, they're not being trained consistently.

Just my .02 but I've never had to show my amx app. From what I understand the carts are leased at USO are leased to someone else. Not happy about that but oh well. Half the time I forget to use my AP discount anyway. Also not cool that alcohol is excluded. They make a killing on it already! I still enjoy myself though.

As noted above no discounts in the WWOHP on merchandise with AAA. IF you are going to be there for a few days you can find the wand you want then see if they sell it at the store that has a lot of the Harry Potter merchandise as your leaving the IOA or at Universal store on City Walk. Must be at least $50.00 and you must show your AAA card and the sheet that comes with your purchase of your park tickets from AAA. Sadly some of the overall new rules with AAA that started this year have been a bit confusing. I learned of the changes on here before we left. Thanks to all who posted with the AAA changes they were experiencing in the park. I ended up purchasing our park tickets from the local AAA office and reminded the lady to give me the paper giving proof of my purchase. She ask me why I needed that paper in addition to my receipt and I showed her what I had learned here and she said she did not even know about that. She was happy to print that sheet for me. In conclusion when I made my purchases of merchandise I did have to show my AAA card and the paper proving I purchased my tickets from AAA.

Been in the parks yesterday and today. We got the Amex discount at all non-cart food vendors, no problems.

Yesterday the card readers were down at Simpsons fod court, and they gave me the AAA discount when I paid cash, even though I did not have the paper (I got our tix at UT in Feb before the change). Don't know if that was the employee being flustered or kind or just not knowing the new rules. There was a manager type behind her, and she did not ask for papers either.

Interesting about the AE app. I don't have a smartphone, so that would be impossible for me.

In previous visits, I was never asked to show the app on my phone when using my AMEX. This time, I was asked once, although I cannot recall where. He said he just needed to see the app icon on my phone, I didn't need to open the app.
