DAS for Heat issues?

Yes this is specific to our trip last week at DL, we went to kiosk, got a return time, we could not get a FP from machine or a w/c return time until our DAS time was done. If we got a w/c return time we could not pull from FP machine or get a DAS from kiosk return time. We never tried to pull a FP and get a return time.

I will say this was the way except for one exception, and that was on Sunday before indy closed down we were able that day to get FP and return time from DAS, I believe indy may not have been hooked to the system that day since it closed the next day.

This was our experience, although some say it does not work this way, we were there 8 days, it did not effect us much, since we do not run from e attraction to e attraction. I will say, we went 8 days before we even saw another person using a DAS pass, also, we thought that very strange but it was out experience that never was there another person at the kiosk when we went to them to get our return times.

Thanks! We are getting a cooling vest and using all the things we can think of. Unfortunately, our trip is late September. That is the only time we can go due to my husband's job. I think she will be ok. She is an early riser, so we will hit the parks early, and we've heard September is low crowds, that will help too. I hope your husband has a great time. Let me know an update!

Hi Veggie, just wanted to give you an update. We just got back from our trip last night and DH was able to use the DAS. It actually worked out really well and with the combination of the DAS, FP and preplanning where we wanted to be we definitely minimized the amount of walking/exertion and time spent in the heat and it made for an easier trip. I'm not sure how familiar you are with the parks and layout but having been now several times was definitely a benefit in planning things out.

For example, we had FP for 7DMT and Pooh in Fantasyland and planned to follow up with lunch at LTT which isn't too far. If we didn't have a FP figured out for after lunch yet we'd schedule one that would be close to the restaurant and along the way we'd get a return time for something else nearby. We did this with HM and PP that day. I was able to work them out around meals several times for nearby rides and we changed our FP or added FP as needed as well. If an attraction we wanted a return time for wasn't close to where we were at the time we wanted to get it I did the run to get it and DH stayed where he was whether it was at a show or dining, etc. and then once we got over to that attraction to ride again we planned to stick to that area to minimize his level of exertion. And it kept him out of the sun for extended periods as we were going in and out of attractions that were pretty close to one another.

We still had a few instances where we ended up having to be either in the sun or do way too much walking in one burst and he felt the effects but all in all the DAS definitely helped. The afternoon parade was tough and one ridiculous FP at HS that was at the entire opposite side of the park when we realized we had to be there within 15 minutes. Of course like an idiot I forgot we had the DAS and could have used it if we missed the FP and the wait was long. He sucked it up and followed along and felt quite ill by the time we got there.

We had the Frogg Toggs and mini fans and kept cold water on us too. I tried to convince him to just get soaking wet as I think that worked the best for me, but he wouldn't go for it.

BTW we purchased a Norchill cooler this trip because it's supposed to work so well at keeping things colder than other coolers. The one we had was a tad bulky but it really did the job. We mostly carried food for my boys but kept water in it as well that stayed ice cold all day even when it was 90s and sunny. Any time he started to feel the effects of getting too hot he was able to grab an ice cold water to drink.

Hope that helps and you have a great trip!

Thank you so much for your reply! It sounds like you were well prepared and had a good plan. I can't tell you how much I appreciate you replying and reporting on your trip. I'm so nervous to take my daughter. The last time we went it was cool and the heat wasn't a worry, but I know it will be warm in September. We are testing out the Frogg Toggs this summer and maybe even a cooling vest? We will buy little mini fans too. She is old enough now that she can hold her own fan. She is thankfully small enough at age 6, that will still be using a stroller. I think that will help store things to keep her cool.
Thank you again! Your post meant so much to me.

Hello! My Dd has a similar problem and keeping her cool is always a concern. Last trip we were not able to get a DAS.

She carries a parasol that has a little fan clipped inside it as well as homemade cooling vests.
We plan on leaving the parks at around 11 am to hide inside in the A/C and coming back in the evening. What time of day does it cool off at the beginning of sept? (Yes I know it's really hot then but that is the only vacation time we could get)

What attractions are the "hottest" and "coolest"?

Why were you not able to get the DAS last trip?

Why were you not able to get the DAS last trip?

I don't know they just said they wouldn't issue one for that. At the time we didn't know as much about my daughters problem and what was causing the symptoms. We managed on the trip, the weather was quite cool so it was alright.
I know the next trip is right in the hottest time of year so hopefully we don't end up hotel bound. :/

As mentioned previously in this thread, there is generally more exposure to sun and heat out and around the parks than in the queues. Most lines are under cover or with air-conditioning, so the DAS would actually force you to be outside more. Some people have reported receiving a DAS for heat issues, others like the PP have not. It is best to go prepared with tools/plans to help deal with the heat just in case.

Enjoy your vacation!

We are prepped with all the tools we can carry, cooling vests, parasol, fans and misters.

Can anyone help me plan my FP+ by telling me which queues are the hot ones? We carry our own shade and am wondering about temperature.

My daughter does not sweat like most people and is suseptable to heat stroke.

What time does it cool down in at the beginning of September? 6pm? 7? We plan on spending the evenings at the parks and going for rope drop till 10 or 11 am.

Most days that doesn't leave us with quite as much time as we would like but we are going for 10 days to make up for it.

We used DAS on our last trip, which was in December. My son has autism, for which we use the stroller as wheelchair, and epilepsy related heat sensitivity.

I don't know that DAS "helped" as far as the heat issue---but I did find that once Cast Members saw the DAS, they did slow down enough for me to state my son's need. DAS nor FP+ exactly addressed the need, as on some rides the "FP+" lines/Accessible lines stretched into the direct sunlight (really hot spots). For the most part, CM did allow us to be a little flexible about where we waited in the line (as in stopped rushing us forward out of the sun lit spots) as the line moved. In some cases, we were able to "park" my son in an air conditioned spot, while waited a few steps away in the zig zag line.

You can also down load a weather app to see when it will get hot and cool down it normal cools down 2 hours after the sun goes down

I am trying to find the daily temperature fluctuations in time to make my 60 day mark for FP+ and my dining reservations. I will search for the historical info, so far I have only found highs and lows but no times associated with them.

I think wunderground has the average for the lest few years I would do fast pass early in the day about 30 mins after the park opens and the you can go and get more

Just another thing I will mention in regards to dining. Try to make sure you book restaurants with only indoors seating. We had an ADR at Rose and Crown last year for a lunch at noon and it was extraordinarily hot. They wanted to seat us outside but even with fans it was awful. Those dining breaks in the AC are a must for us. Same went for QS locations. I hadn't realized which ones were only outdoor seating and which had indoor seating. R&C let us wait for a table inside but we had to sit in the very crowded bar and wait quite a bit for it.

confused, are you saying DL doesn't permit a guest to hold a FP & a DAS return time at the same time?

We cleared this up on another thread, you cant have a das and fp return time open for the same attraction

Can you link to the thread?
Is this at both Disneyland and Disney World? Sorry to bud in, but I thought I read the two were supposed to be used in conjunction to accommodate for kids with cognitive disabilities where they might get "stuck" on repetition since there are no other ways to really accommodate someone that is obsessed with riding only one ride over and over and nothing else. I thought I read this in Disney's guide to cognitive disabilities that FP+ and DAS can be used in conjunction. How do you do that for the same ride then if not using this way? Excuse my ignorance too because we have yet to use the DAS OR fp+ so I'm still trying to understand before our trip. Thanks!

At Disneyland you can have a fast pass and das return time open for the same attraction at the same time. Not only did we do this in February but I confirmed it with disability services just a few weeks ago.

What you cannot have is a DAS and WC return time active at the same time.

1) Seldom.
2) If ever.
3) An ECV would probably overcome the issue.
4) If not, EVERY SINGLE OLD GUY would be eligible for a DAS.

I can't see why they wouldn't - there's a very big difference between your typical average Joe that gets hot, and someone with a medical condition (lack of sweat glands) that puts them at a well above normal risk.
