WDW DAS going digital? - YES - started April 30, 2015. See page 6

They are iPads I was talking to a CM they day they started it and that is what I was told

For DAS they are iPod/touch devices at attractions in a otterbox type cover. iPads are used by kiosk, restaurant and other CMs.

Loved the DAS system. We had no problems and even went to 3 parks in one day. Animal Kingdom was a little glitchy. At Kilamanjaro the girl said just tell them I said to let you through. A CM actually called me and left a cell message saying she saw there was a possible issue and that half our party had FP for 1 park and the other half had for a different park and to call back if we needed assistance. We noticed the pass return time was usually half the standby time except for a few rides. We were in the parks for 4 days. No complaint here.

It's possible at Disneyland, they are using iPads.
I've seen them at all 4 parks.
They DO use iPads at Guest Relations, but the attraction CMs giving out Return Times are using definitely iPod touch or iPhones in a thick case.

I have an iPhone, and an iPad. My daughter has an iPad mini, so the size differences were very clear to me.
They may use iPads for the CMs at the Disneyland kiosks.

I was talking about disney world and had a type-o I meant to put iPod in and typed iPad

Actually they have both iPods and iPads. We had several times the pod was t working so they pulled out a pad. :)

Yes, it turns out there are both, although the iPods seem to be more common.
We were at WDW from May 14 thru May 23. I saw my first iPad at an attraction on May 22. Before that, I only saw iPods. The iPods are more compact and have a strap so the person using it can keep it on them. I wonder if the case interferes with the wifi signal?

I turned in my green DAS card at guest relations inside EPCOT yesterday had th info put into my magic band. I had brought active bands for the 5 people in my party and they were added without being there. The cast member assisting could not have been nicer. He walked me through how it would work. He had asked what ride I would being going to use it at first and used it as the example. That turned into pixie dust because after I left and met up with my party, my niece said look at her smart phone. There was a return time for Test Track. The cast member had made me an actual time and saved us the trek over to the ride.

When I asked for my electronic DAS I wasn't even asked why I needed one or what my needs were. I also had other family members' cards. We don't like magic bands... so we use the old style plastic cards. I linked them without them being there. The gentleman said he just needed the ticket media not the bodies!

but, you had one before.
They can see with the name now who has had one before. I would not expect to get one for the first time with no questions or explanations.

He entered everything fresh. I commented that I had previously had one but my name was misspelled (very incorrectly) and I didn't have the old card with me. He said it didn't matter. The new electronic system is different from the previous system. Apparently the front line GS CMs can't see who has previously had a paper DAS. If you take a card in, they can scan it and it will TRANSFER the info but he told me it is a new system.
My last name on the paper DAS was a totally different last name and I didn't even realize it until we were ready to leave. My eyesight isn't great and sometimes letters run together or look similar. But upon using a magnifying glass I realized there were extra letters and incorrect ones.
I was just surprised that I was not questioned and I know others (in person!) and from other places that have not been questioned either... there just seems to be a good bit of inconsistentcy

New system is great when the electronic readers cooperated!

MGM was having issues throughout the day issuing return times via the reader. CMs wanted to just wave us thru immediately on Great Movie Ride. I explained we had other FP coming up and was asked "...then why do you want this one...". I chalked it up to a clueless CM vs malice-type dig. It took ten minutes for her to obtain a supervisor to write out a 'anytime' return FP. He was visibly irritated & reiterated several times the 'anytime' FP was a special one-time accommodation. I took the high road and smiled.

Also had issues at Small World of all places. There was an older gentleman manning the FP return area. he sent us to FP entrance, where we received instructions to go back to him & get a return time. He told us he doesn't use a cell phone so he wasn't about to use the scanner. o_O He directed us to WC line and said to state we parked our ECV. :rolleyes1Really didn't set well with me to tell such a whopper, but did so if only to get out of the broiling sun. Busted, there we were told the line was only for parties who had WC/ECVs with them.:headache: At this point we went back to the older gent who said to go back to the regular line. That CM asked why we were back. When we explained he shook his head, apologized & told us to go thru the FP line. The regular line would likely have been quicker at that point.

I would think that the above were speed bumps in the sytem and once it's in place for a month or so, all the bugs will be worked out and the CMs will be fully trained and cooperative.

I was there when they started and going back in 10 days hopping things get better by then

:welcome: to disABILITIES!

Are you going to WDW in Florida? It is encouraged to use both Fastpass (FP+) in conjunction with DAS. Your whole party will be able to plan 3 FP+ attractions prior to your vacation. The DAS return times are not obtained until you are in the park, and DAS may overlap because it is actually a "return after..." time and not a specific window of time like FP+. So conceivably you can have 4 times if you pre-plan your FP+ and get a DAS time right after entering the park. At WDW, DAS return times are issued at the attraction. After you have used the 3 initial pre-planned FP+ you may obtain another at the kiosks -- one at a time (use the 3rd, get a 4th; use the 4th, get a 5th; etc.).

At DL/DCA in California, it is also encouraged to use both FP and DAS together, but those parks still use the older paper Fastpasses. DAS return times are obtained at kiosks in DL/DCA.

If you haven't found it yet, the WDW - Disability Access Service Card thread might be of interest to you. The first post has all the pertinent info, no need to read the whole thread. Or if you are going to DL/DCA, there is a DAS thread for the west coast parks as well.

Enjoy your vacation!
Thank you! I have been trying to figure out the new DAS system for two days, with no luck. Every time I call the Disney disability line I get sent to voice mail. We haven't been to WDW since 2012 pre FP+ and DAS so I was way confused but your post has cleared some of it up :-)

Question-- I already have a digital DAS for my daughter that is good through the end of July. I want to add someone to the DAS, and I know I need to go to guest relations. Can I use their RFID ticket to add them to the pass without them present? They are arriving 7 hours after us and need their magic bands for MDE. I have their RFID tickets though. I just wanted to have everything set up before they arrived since it will be easier.

Thanks!

Just had to reply to this, I've just come back from a 14night trip,
I wasn't asked about my needs at all for the electronic DAS, and I never had my card on me either.
All info was put in new, I was also with two friends one of which has never done disney and requires a DAS,nothing was asked of him either,
He was just given it...
So huge inconsistencies,

I gave GR our old GAC from 2013 and we were issued a DAS attached to our MB with no questions asked. It really just depends on who you get.

From May 16-31, it worked pretty well.

We were there (husband and I) the last two weeks of May and used the DAS for his Crohn's- he had his old pass with him so all they did was scan his card, take his picture and then link my band. They asked how many in our party, and when we explained there would be others joining us, they said they had to be physically present to be joined in. Every DAS Pass we had showed up on our MDE app (android) as a green fast pass experience, and when we clicked on it, it would tell us what it was. Either he or I would have to go up to the fast pass return desk, and wait to get scanned- about half the time there was a scanner that didn't work, usually because of the connection.

Coming back, it would glow blue, then green when we got passed through; if it was less than ten, we were told to scan and then go through. It didn't matter if we had a fast pass for later or not, it always worked, and never took off the later fast pass (we did use it for Seven Dwarves and Toy Story before our FP+ later in the day). If there was an attraction that we had a DAS for that we couldn't get back to, and got a DAS for a different one, they did double check with one of us to make sure we didn't want it, and they also double checked with us to make sure we wanted a DAS pass for an attraction we already had a FP+ to- on the scanners they had in MK and HS they could see our FP+ and what was already used.

We never used more than I think 3 DAS in a day at most just because my husband couldn't do that much- just too much on him. They were very clear that if there were two in our party that needed DAS that they could accommodate it, but that if both were riding that both would have to have times, and those who are on both passes would have to pick one to ride with- we asked because we have a friend talking about joining us later on who has a different condition.

All in all it worked really well; the main issue seemed to be the scanners themselves, which frustrated the cast members- they kept apologizing and saying they had been promised "updated tech" soon... That and the confusion with people in the larger fast pass return lines; when people were bunched up waiting their turn at 7D, TSMM or ToT and I had to swim upstream to talk to a cast member to get a time. No one save for the cast member could hear what I was asking, and often as I was standing there they would turn and then ask since I was just standing.

No replies in a while....any updates on glitches or the like?

Also, has anyone used DAS for Fantasmic? Where would you go to get that?

thanks

I was just there 10 or so days ago and for the most part it was ok the thing that use to scan got over heated and would not work ( space montion) and I received an any time fast pass and it would still take that before my DAS I had to go back to GR 3 times and they finally gave me 3 more but for the most part it is ok they make it work

I am going again in 4 weeks not sure if I will do fantastic last time I got a FP about 2 hours before hand so I have not needed to use my DAS for that and this coming trip is just a short 3 day one
