Universal opening new water park in 2017

Makes all the sense in the world that Sapphire Falls hotel will be done in 2017, as well.

They've also started construction on a massive parking garage next to Sapphire Falls to be done by then, too.

Will Disney announce anything new this year?

No...

They haven't even begun to milk the udders of avatar and the wildly "authentic" Disney springs...

The problem here is that they have raked over 1.8 billion in box office receipts on just two movies - Cinderella and avengers - so far this year...

And that before two Pixar movies and somekind SciFi movie coming out near Christmas...

To put it simply... They simply can't muster up enough "care" for all their business
To go around.

I agree. My question was supposed to sort of sarcastic because we all know how Disney operates. Inside out has been getting great reviews from movie festivals and many say it's Another Pixar hit. That SciFi movie has the potential to have a bigger opening than avengers.

If that sci Fi movie is b/c quality...it will destroy avengers and maybe any movie that came before it.

And the plot is stating to be reported to be "out there" after some of the hardcore fans have started to compile leaked pictures, plot details, and quotes from the parties involved.

It sounds really good...and it may throw everything on its ear In a good way...

But also... I'm beginning to think this is calculated...that Disney will get a "reactionary windfall" on this one if they pull off a good movie with the classic characters...as a response to the release of fans frustration over the jar jar binks led dark ages...

Get you popcorn and watch.

I'll be just as interested to watch the box offices come in and the product sales as I will to see the movie.

But I'll still be there at 3 am

Spirit says that this water park will very likely open prior to avatar. He says avatar is set to open late 2017.

Again . .I am amazed at how quickly Universal is pumping out "attractions and hotels" in the last 5-6 years.

And not just a re-themed ride .. but whole themed areas in the parks and a new hotel and a whole new waterpark.

Avatarland better be AMAZING (based on the time being spent on it) compared to the Harry Potter stuff .. (but I have my doubts).

I definitely see people reducing their days at Disney (maybe even just going to MK for 2-3 days) .. and spending equal time at Universal Studios ..

Yes that is what we are thinking.. Spend equal time at Disney and universal..

If that caught on...you would be shocked at what you would get for your money...

Or just don't go to the new "Disney springs" and tell the survey people why...

Not they I'm suggesting anything...

That's practically what we did the last 2 trips. T-2 was entirely "the other 4 parks", T-1 was 4 days Disney and 2 days Universal.

The Orlando FlexTicket is a pretty good bargain. If you add the $20 Busch Gardens option that gets you 14 days of unlimited park hopping between USO, IOA, SW and BGT. Plus Aquatica and Wet'n'Wild.

Unlike the WDW slogan, that really is "4 Great Parks", meaning 4 complete parks each with at least a full day's entertainment.

Everyone has different ideas of fun, but DHS and AK are definitely parks that we could skip. MK and Epcot would still be "must do" for us, but Diagon Alley? R U kiddin' ? And the Hogwarts Express? Plus they've built up Springfield USA, and they'll have King Kong before AK finishes Avatar Land. Also before Avatar is ready, Seaworld and Busch Gardens will both have new coasters.

This water park looks amazing. I'm sure they will do an awesome job with it.

This is really a game changer for Universal IMO. Between the two parks and the waterpark, I know we could spend a week there, especially if we are staying at one of the onsite hotels which have a lot of stuff to do too. And CityWalk.

With just the two parks, we can spend about four nights/three full parks days now. But my kids will easily spend a day or two at the waterparks and be thrilled.

I think having everything close together adds a lot of the experience too. I don't enjoy the sprawl of WDW.

I do wonder what they are going to do with their Express Pass system when Sapphire Falls opens. They clearly know they have hit the limit of how many hotels they can put on that system.

They have already announced that sapphire falls will not have express pass.

Oh I know. I just think they are hitting a tipping point with Express Pass now. Back when they could offer it to all of the the onsite hotels, it made sense. Now they are going to have two more massive hotels without Express Pass. I could see them moving towards something like Fastpass when this is all done.

Well...one hopes that they will...indeed...build a full third gate over on I-4 and connect it via rail...

And that represents a "game changer".

Remember... The rail station is being built south of OIA as we speak...
Part of that plan is to build the - and I can't believe I'm saying this - first mag lev rail with any usefulness in the US - and latch on to the Orlando convention center...

Hmm...check your map and look at where the
Convention center is...

Again... The potential is there for a quick/relative cheap/mass system to connect a tourist destination to your runway...

That beats the hell outta magical express.

I could too but they might just keep Express available for purchase and balance out the demand that way. A room and buying Express can still easily add up to a lower cost than many of the Disney resorts and that in itself is interesting when you think about it.
