Aulani - Pearl Harbor

Well I waited too long to get Pearl Harbor tickets from the recreation.gov site so I think I have two options. Two questions. I see that there is a tour that leaves from Aulani at 6:30am certain days of the week. The cost is about $45 per person. Has anyone done that tour and did it meet your expectations? Question #2 is if anyone has gone to Pearl Harbor the day prior and waited in line for the block of tickets they hold. I've heard they open around 7:00 and are out of tickets before noon. I'm willing to do the drive early if I'm reasonably sure I can get tickets. Comments are appreciated.

When I did Pearl Harbor, I didn't reserve my tickets in advance. I was kind of late getting there from Aulani because I got lost, but finally got to Pearl Harbor around 9ish. At that point, the earliest you could get tickets to see the Arizona Memorial was for 1:30pm. That was fine with me, because I wanted to see other things(Bowfin & Missouri--which you have to pay for--the Arizona tickets are free). They also have some free exhibits you can look at while you wait.

Before deciding to do the excursion, I would go to the Pearl Harbor website and look at everything there is to do. From my experience, most of the tours only give you time to see the Arizona and not much else. If you're ok with that, then take the tour. If you want to see other things, consider driving yourself. If you're there by 7 or 8 am, I don't think you'll have trouble getting tickets for that day. One thing to keep in mind is that the parking lot does fill up. The earlier you get there, the greater the chance that you will get a space. Also, no bags are allowed. Check the website for particulars.

I don't know when you will be going to Hawaii, but currently you cannot get to the Arizona Memorial. Here is what the Pearl Harbor & USS Arizona website says. The hope to have it open again by June 4, 2015.

Ticket Availability -
Due to damage to the floating dock and to ensure the safety of visitors, access to the USS Arizona Memorial has been suspended until further notice.

Reservations for the Arizona Memorial program will continue, which will include a film and a boat ride to Battleship Row (immediately adjacent to the USS ArizonaMemorial).

Access to the USS Arizona Memorial will resume once safety measure are in place. Please check back here for status updates.
