Disney's PORT ORLEANS RIVERSIDE RESORT Information & Questions

Our flight lands at 8:30 p.m. Originally we were booked at CBR, and the reservation CM stated that we would have to retrieve our own luggage at the airport because otherwise it absolutely would not appear in our room until after midnight. When we switched the reservation to POR, the phone CM laughed off my question about whether we should get our luggage at baggage claim. He said there was no problem since we were arriving before 10 p.m., and that the luggage would be in our room around 9:30 p.m.

I know all of the official Disney advice about flight times and luggage delivery, but I'm wondering about the huge difference in advice from two CMs. Should we believe the second CM or just grab the luggage ourselves?

Thanks!

I just wanted to let you all know how my prime pantry order is going. I ordered 5/22, it shipped 5/24, and expected on 5/29. We arrive 5/30. Perfect timing. I ordered 3 12 packs of 16.9 oz of nestle purified water @ $2.48 each, $5.99 for shipping.

Oh, and by the way, I am beyond excited to be going this Saturday, 4 days from now to Riverside for the first time!!!!

Great idea. Thanks for the info. I may do that for our August trip. It'll be our first time at POR also.
Have fun.

Does anyone know if the road construction by Downtown Disney is creating any traffic for buses going back to Riverside? When I went a couple years ago I remember that buses coming back from Animal Kingdom and Hollywood Studios would turn left onto Bonnet Creek parkway from Buena Vista drive. I dont know if the construction on Buena Vista drive extends that far though.

The first CM is right. There is no way in the world your luggage is going to get to your room around 9:30 when your flight is landing at 8:30. It's supposed to arrive in your room about 3 hours after you check in, which should be between 9:45 and 10:00. Before you check in, the room isn't yours yet, so they can't deliver the luggage before then.

I would guess your luggage wouldnt arrive until after 11pm. If I were you I would just grab it myself.

We paid for a river view and technically we received a river view - but you can really only see the river in the Fall/Winter when some leaves fall off of the trees...lol...because right now it is more like an amazing garden/tree view room!

I also booked a RR River view room for August. What would you recommend for a real river view? A higher floor? Is 2nd floor good enough or I should request the 3rd floor? Thanks.

Was just there the weekend of the 16th and did not experience any traffic at all using the bus. Buena Vista Drive (coming from Epcot/World Center Drive/Typhoon Lagoon) was terrible, but the buses come the opposite way (Disney Vacation Club Way passing Saratoga Springs). I was actually staying off-site near South International Drive, and I knew it would be a nightmare getting to DTD (my sweet husband is naive and insisted on going, anyway) because it was a Saturday evening at prime dinner hour. I told my husband to bypass the traffic as it was backed up all the way to the main "Welcome to Walt Disney World!" arch/gate and go straight to POR. I wanted him to have a look around the resort, anyway, as I am actually returning to POR early June for business and wanted to convince him to come along and enjoy the amenities. Long story short, he had a nice time exploring POR, we talked with some lovely CMs in the lobby, our tot loved her first bus ride, and they'll both be joining me for some resort fun while I work all day :P

Anyway, the bus ride to and from DTD did not take long at all, and my husband was especially glad we went this route.

I would not recommend a 3rd floor. I would ask for a 1st or 2nd floor room. That would be your best bet! However - my room did have a river view - it was obstructed by trees - but it was still beautiful!!! I stayed in Oak Manor - which is my favorite - so I am not sure about Parterre Place - that building may be different.

My advice is always don't try to overthink things, and just tell them what you WANT rather than trying to second-guess building numbers and floors - i.e. "I'd like a room with an clear unobstructed view of the river please, preferably not on the ground floor if possible". Let them try to find you the best location to fit your wishes.

Our plane leaves in 19 hours!! I can hardly contain my excitement!!!! Thank you all for your valuable information, especially Andre! I will update when I can :)

Do you mark your bags differently if you want to just take it yourself? How does that work? This will be our first trip using the Magical Express instead of driving, so I don't know much about the logistics.

If you're taking your bags yourself, you simply don't use the Magical Express tags. Pick up your checked luggage at the airport's carousel.

Maybe! Did you get free dining also?

I did ... I gambled and moved up to that room before the offer was available and moved our dining plan up from quick service also so we could book restaurants 180 days out etc... lucky for me they released the dining so no extra for the better package and we booked all our reservations 180 days out so got everything we wanted!

WWe're 14 days out from our 1st POR stay! We're very excited. I've read several posts about getting "pixie dust" upgrades. Is this totally random? It will be my son's birthday while we're there (probably along with about 500 other kids at POR) ... Just wishful thinking! Is there anything special I could do? We have a garden room reserved, but an upgrade would be "magical". :rotfl2:

If we do that, there's no chance that we'd "miss" our ride on the Magical Express, is there?? I don't want to spend the trip stranded at the airport :)
