DVC Member Celebration...

Has anyone done the DVC Member Celebration on Embarkation Day? We are leaving on the Fantasy Saturday, and I just got a call from DVC (we are members) inviting us to the Member Celebration. Has anyone done this? What all do they do? Do you get anything special from attending? Is it mostly just for fun or is it a sales pitch?

Thanks for any info!

I have been to them on three different cruises. The first two were nice. The last one we were on was horrible. They offer free champine, and people were like animals. I thought they were going to knock over the waitress when she brought out the trays. They swarmed her and it the whole tray was gone before you could blink. The drinks were nothing special either.

They have triva questions in which you can win small DVC prizes. It is mainly a sales pitch to get members to add on more points, and trying to get you to get non members you run into on the cruise to make an appointment for a sales pitch. You get extra on board credits if you add on or get someone to buy while on board.

I figured it was pretty much a sales pitch. We may try it out. What kind of prizes did they give away?

I enjoy the game show and generally enjoy the experience. You could win small prizes like a DVC umbrella, a tote and there's usually a drawing for $200 On Board Credit. You often come away with a DVC hat.

Not sure if they've changed how it works on the Fantasy, but on the Magic earlier this month (5/10) the format was new.

2:00 - Character M&G (was Stitch on our cruise)
2:30 - Game show with prizes (hosted by the ships Adult Activities Coordinator)
3:00 - DVC update and sales information

Was it possible to leave before the sales pitch? How long did the sales pitch last? We love our membership, but we're not interested at all in adding on right now.

At the beginning they said approx how long each portion would last and said you were free to leave whenever you wanted to.

Each section was about 30 minutes, so it was all over by 3:30.

Total sales pitch. And they show their teary "I'm so glad I'm a member" promo videos that make you feel good about having purchased, and make you consider buying more points.

I go for the booze, LOL. Though I generally can't find them to get a second drink, and the drinks are pretty watered down. Eh, it's something to do. :)

I just got off the Dream and attended it. When we walked in we received a DVC Tervis which came in really handy throughout the week.

They also served free alcoholic drinks and bottles of water.

We played some family Feud style game and the room was split into 3 groups. They also played some DVC clips in between the action. We left shortly after the game because it became an advertisement for DVC which really made no sense to me. Everyone in there was a member or a guest of a member so it's almost like they're missing the mark on their target audience.

When we left we got a blue DVC member hat.

On the Fantasy in February, there was an excellent piano player as entertainment as well as the games. We stopped to chat with him afterwards.

We've always looked at it as an opportunity to meet other DVC members - it's fun to run into new friends as your cruise progresses. ;-)

The updated game show format is ok. We mainly go for the chance to win the $200 onboard credit. Glad to see they changed up the giveaways (Tervis-style cups and blue hats). I have way too many white hats and drawstring bags.
