2016 WDW Star Wars race rumors?

I would love to see a SWW half here in FL. Can you imagine if there was a coast to coast Star Wars challenge only medal.

Anyone want to take bets that it will sell out between 5 and 10 minutes. Forget the half hour. What an uproar that will be. ::yes::

Whatever the next race is, needs to be something that interests men and women. I would love for my husband to join me in a race, but the Tinkerbell marathon is the only one at the time of year we can go.......he's just not interested...However, if it were a Star Wars Marathon he's all for it!

I agree, the Princess and Tinker Bell races were obviously Disney's attempt to increase participation by women, and if anything Disney's been too successful doing that as even in gender neutral races like ToT last year it felt like it was 60-70% women. The next race will probably be Star Wars based which would be perfect as it would appeal to anybody who's a fan.I heard in a podcast we might have an announcement in June,I'm already budgeting for a May 2016 race trip.

I'm not going to bite on the whole women v. men thing. But I will say that I like that Disney offers two race weekends where only women can race as elites.

I stand by my initial prediction that there will be a C2C Star Wars challenge in 2016 (like with the Pink C2C medal if you run Princess and Tink). I don't believe the added Star Wars race weekend in Florida will actually fall during SWW - they can already pack the parks for that weekend. I think they add a Florida Star Wars race weekend in place of ToT for the time being. Complete weekend. 5k, challenge, the whole bit.

Most runDisney runners are women regardless of the race -- even Star Wars and Avengers -- and I don't imagine runDisney minds. They quit doing prize money early on in favor of appealing to more casual runners and chose 2x to target women with their theming and execution (only women in corral A). I'd guess female participants spend more on average at the events for commemorative merchandise and other expo vendors and that Princess & Tink were just looking to capitalize on that. If that's the case they'd probably still like the more gender neutral races to remain >50% women.

I run in diva runs if the course interests me, so I don't mind the races focused on women. But I don't spend a nickel on merch in those races, so they lose $$ from me.

I'm of the belief that only Disneyland should have a Star Wars race weekend until Star Wars Weekends comes to Disneyland too. That said, I'm not convinced runDisney will essentially clone another race theme if and when WDW gets another runDisney event. It may well be themed to something entirely different. See the Princess vs. Tinker Bell.

It would be cool if they would do Star Wars theme races in both DW and DL, but have them different themes.... The Star Wars Rebel Race in DW, and the Dark Side Races in DL! Just think how awesome that C2C medal would be then!!

Well, it's getting toward the end of June with no announcement.....Is there another month they usually do race announcements on? When were the previous new marathons announced? I am hoping they replace the Expedition challenge or TOT with something........

At this point, unless they announce something for October (which would be a VERY short registration-to-race time frame) I would say 2015 races are set.

I don't see anything being placed in during the early part of 2016, but a new race in May for WDW isn't out of the picture and maybe something later this summer for the second half of 2016 is open. Would not surprise me if they are estimating construction schedules/completion time frames before something is announced.

I don't see any races being added in the near future with the massive construction taking place or scheduled to take place. I think the Star Wars would a top grossing, top selling guarantee and then the tie in with a C2C. Seems that DL struggles, not much but somewhat because of the cost. So to add a mega cash cow in WDW and have those same people go to DL the same year is a no brainer.
But I don't see if happening in May. Already too much going on with SWW. Plus, I read people saying it would be okay to run, it's hot but it's been hot for ToT too. There's always a chance of hot or hotter than usual weather in October. But the chance in May for hot as heck weather is pretty much a guarantee. And because of this I think it would have to be a night, Fall race. Plus, it's Star Wars, it's gotta be under the stars.

I do like the idea of the Pixar race weekend. That's cool. I'm on the fence about Avatar themed race. Never seen the movie, will definitely go to the park, but I don't think that generates anywhere near the hoopla of other races. But like someone said, ToT and EE at not really tied into movie or current things, so. Disney could easily go either way.

I really like the idea of a race involving the water parks. I mean, how cool would it be to COOL down at an after party there. But with libility and hours, etc, don't see that one ever happening. Maybe a 1 mile fun run and doubt that.

I believe that ToT needs to come back after construction. Very popular, cool race, great after party. It's just dependant on if something is put in that spot.

But as we all know, if Disney puts out any new races we'll all sign up and still ask for more races. Our paychecks should just go straigh to them! Have fun.

I forgot to post this here...please keep in mind that this is a RUMOR and you should take it with a grain of salt.

One of the few Facebook groups I'm in is a runDisney Facebook group (called runDisneyrun) - one of the more tech-minded members looked at the source code for the runDisney website. There he found portions of code that pointed to a section of the website for a Star Wars Half Marathon in Disney World, but they were commented out (so they were there, just not *live* yet). Those portions of code have since been removed from the runDisney site.

They also found reference to an Empire Challenge (Imperial Challenge? Something like that) and a special C2C for Star Wars...along with a possible logo for the race weekend as a whole.

This was a little over a week ago and there's been zero discussion about it since then, soooo...:confused3

Color me disappointed if this is true. As I said upthread, I'd prefer something other than Star Wars in Florida (i.e. Pixar). I can't really get excited over the exact same race on both coasts. IF they do announce it I could see them doing so just after the madness from Princess Half registration is over.

There won't be any announcements, just too much construction going on especially in Hollywood Studios. It will be a long time before it's completed. I do love the C2C challenge with the the Star Wars themes!!!!

I too don't think there will be any new races at WDW anytime soon, especially one with a Star Wars theme that would be expected to go through DHS. With all the construction that rumor has it will be going on, it doesn't seem likely.

Why wouldn't they though?! They want to keep the numbers up for DHS even through construction, so wouldn't this be the best way? Thank you Ariel484 for the "heads up rumor"! I hope it's true! :)

With the construction running through the park is probably not going to be possible. To have wood walls up and have 90 degree turns work for pedestrians but not for races. Too many hairpin turns and to congested.

Apparently this file is where they keep the race logos and other global images...possible new logo is at the bottom next to the DL Paris logo:
