just booked a cruise for next year, this will be our second cruise (first was also Disney) and my parents first ever. My aunt likes to cruise a lot but only with Cunard, when my mum told her we were booked to go, she snobbishly said 'just don't judge all cruises by the Disney one you're going on' I mean WTH?! Why say that to someone, talk about taking away the excitement from my mum. And how would she know anyway? She has never been on a Disney cruise!

Anyway, rant over...

I have a friend that cruises Carnival all the time. The moment I booked she started in with how I was spending to much money. I had to be stern with her before she would leave me alone! I told her it was my vacation and I was paying for it so the price shouldn't matter to her! Since then I've heard her tell some of our coworkers that they are crazy to spend so much money on their vacations. I've just told myself that she is jealous and move on with planning ;)

People get very loyal to cruise lines we went on RCL the regular cruisers thought it was fantastic, you were not allowed to mention any other cruise line in particular DCL, as to them blinkered RCL was best.

Clearly wasn't there was so much RCL messed up.

We've only been on one Disney cruise and one Carnival cruise. We had an absolutely blissful time on our 7-day Wonder cruise. The Carnival cruise was a 3-day out of Long Beach to Ensenada - it was a family cruise that my wife's grandparents paid for. My 4 year old couldn't wait to get off the ship and neither could we. Some people just don't get it. Especially since it's a special occasion for my wife we really wanted to have a more elegant cruise experience instead of early 90s Las Vegas gaudy. My wife and I both said that going on Carnival made us want to go on another Disney cruise so I booked an Eastern Caribbean on the Fantasy for her birthday next year :rotfl:! Thanks Carnival!:thanks:

What I tell people is:
Whoever pays the piper calls the music.
:rockband:
:charac2:
:music:
:mic:
If your family wants you to go on a vacation and they are willing to pay for it, go and have a great time on them. If you are paying for the trip you go where and when you choose to go.

My friend used to work for a travel company and they would go on different cruiselines for team building. She would always tell me to try another cruiseline. Why would I? I love Disney!

Who knows, maybe Cunard is better, but it is your money and imho, Disney is great. Maybe she is jealous she is not going along for the ride? Don't let it bother you and hopefully, if anything, this will have just set your mom's expectations lower and then watch her face as the magic happens. I bet Cunard doesn't have captain Jack on their boat!

I think that's exactly what it was, jealousy. She cannot afford to cruise anymore. I was just so mad she would try to take away my mums excitement! My mum is so poorly and so down about it at the moment, finally she had something to look forward to and my aunt takes the shine off it. Just really made me cross.

From my research Cunard pricing is in some cases very similar to Disney but they are very different experiences. Where on a Disney Cruise you are paying for the Disney name, service, characters, shows etc.. On Cunard you are paying for a luxury high end cruise. The average age on these cruises are also very different. We ruled out Cunard as it was primarily an older population, something DH and I may look forward to when we retire, but we aren't there yet!

We've gotten the same replies when people find out we've booked another DCL cruise. I know someday (hopefully not) my kids won't want to do Disney and that's fine with me. But for now, we all have a blast and everyone else can mind their own;)

I have talked to a few people about how much we love DCL. That we are going again in Dec. What's funny, is non DCL cruisers get downright mean and angry when we explain that we love DCL and until the kids are grown and gone, that's our preferred line. One even said, "well now you did it, you had to go on Disney and now you won't go on anything else because you got spoiled" she even said it with and angry tone.
What business is it of hers what line we choose? Why the anger? It's not like I attacked her cruise lines. Well. Except the boozer Carnival cruise we unknowingly went on before. Never again!

Wow! You wonderful people are so much more gracious than I could ever be... Anyone expressing their concern over how I spend my money or where I go on vacation would be the immediate recipient of a few "&^%#$#@$&^%*s" and a few "@&&%^*#$" and several "Go &**^^*) &&*_ ))+*&*_(*&^)". And just in case I didn't get my point across, I would throw in a "&#@#*%@$" or two. :thumbsup2

Everyone will have opinions. I know in the back of my mind that family/friends wonder why or how I can afford WDW so much or, better yet, look at the price for the cruise two weeks before we set sail over Easter on the Fantasy then tell me it must be nice to have money :sad2:

It's my money and I will spend it how it pleases me and I will happily tell you so. I never understood the need for people to get into each others financial business. I don't even tell my MIL (with whom I am VERY close) or my own mother anything about our finances.

The person making the remark is stating that DCL is the best. Apparently that same quote insists that the person can't go on DCL for some reason and must SETTLE with something else. Must be rough knowing that others are having to cruises on less than desirable cruise lines. Please, NO BLASTS, just restating the obvious. :thanks:

I know a lot of people wonder the same thing about us. We take a lot of trips, and we are just a middle class family. I don't think they realize how much cheaper it is to travel when kids are in school. Not just DCL and WDW, but travel in general. It's one of main reasons we homeschool. I gave up trying to explain that to people a long time ago.

As for the original topic Cunard is a luxury line, and DCL is not so that may be why she feels the way she does.

That Carnival cruise is known as the Booze Cruise. May people spend more on the bar bill than the cruise cost. That was a one and done.

I have to say that I read plenty of that kind of thing here on this board too. Plenty of folks look down on anything that's not DCL. Heck, there are already a couple of digs at Carnival on this very thread!
